If it wasn't for the sheer determination and brilliance of Ronaldo, Portugal would not have scored anything; all others seemed sloppy. As the commentators mentioned, he is indeed a goal machine. But Messi has much support in the form of Di Maria, Higuain, Aguero, Dybala and thence Argentina is in a better position.
Ronaldo's free kick is his 45th attempt at direct free kicks in major championships, and what a beautiful one; the ball curved a lot even with so much of power.

His international records would have been much much better if he had atleast some support from his Portugese teammates.
Even when it comes to club level, if Ronaldo had the kind of assists Messi has in Barcelona, things would have been very different.
As promised, the game proved to be an entertainer till the final whistle.

All the 3 goals that Portaul scored against Spain seems like they got them by chance. The final free kick by Ronaldo was awesome. On the other hand all the goals that Spain scored was interesting to watch. They played like a well co-ordinated unit. This was just like how they played the 2010 world cup.

He didnt put in too much power - this combined with the angle worked. Extraordinary skill, just magical. But this Portugal is a far cry from the Luis Figo era's team. Midfield is totally non existent. Solid defence and Ronaldo being the only true strong points.

The first goal by D'Costa was a foul on Pepe that was overlooked.

That was sent to the fourth referee for confirmation and was declared not a foul
A thrilling match, Ronaldo's free kick being the highlight. But Spain was clearly the better side. Great to see them show a lot of spirit, coming back from deficit twice. They are indeed showing the same class as in 2010. Hope they can sustain it in the next rounds.

It's got decent power too and hence the speed or else the defenders and De Gea could have reacted better.

Video Assistant Referee indeed, not the fourth official.
Anyone liked the volley by Nacho, I thought it too awesome to see the ball curve inside like a missile. Both these goals were a treat to the eyes.

+1 that was a clear foul. Wonder how they gave clean chit after the review.
Ronaldo's free kick (extra ordinary skill + the time at which it came) has taken the focus away from Costa's first goal and Nacho's strike. Both were splendid demonstration of skills. I especially liked Costa's opening goal. Spain were a cut above Portugal, but I think its the Portugal team that will draw more confidence and heart from the match.
Ronaldo doesn't seem to be all that hard working a player on the field, but I think he reads the game better than almost everybody and its just amazing how many times he is present at the right place and at the right time to kick that ball home.
Ronaldo's free kick, is there any defence for that? Could Spain have done anything else to save the goal? That was as good as penalty kick.

Of course it should have the required power:) what I meant was that it was not the thundering shot normally associated with Ronaldo

Am not too clear what a VAR is and is not - but in the above case, the referee referred to the officials back up there over a hand set. Whereas in today's France Vs Australia match the VAR system was on the field.

What an "upset" in the Arg-Iceland match.
Taking RM's CL performances into consideration, the Ronaldo vs Messi debate is surely being settled in the former's favour now.
Can anybody analyse what have happened to Messi? I feel he has lost a bit of confidence and losing the penalty will make it more grave.
Will he be able to come back? Or, can Argentina do better without him?

Probably Messi feels threatened by CR7's hatrick the other day that he put himself under unnecessary pressure. Really showed in his game where even a regulation penalty, which he would have probably scored for Barca, seemed to be an impossible task.
