Will he be able to come back? Or, can Argentina do better without him? |
ARG is not in good shape as a team. I think weak defence is weighing on their minds and they are probably still not over with their dismal qualifying rounds. But I do really hope they will top their group. I am heading to Russia hoping to watch ARG in their later stage matches. If they don't make it to the top of the group D, I will be watching the wrong matches :)
But all said and done World Cup is not the tournament to enjoy Messi's game. He is marked way too much and he carries an extremely heavy burden of his country's hopes. It's like India when everything depended on Tendulkar!
Let's hope they get better with each tournament.

Messi is not a great penalty taker really. Misses too many of them.
Its also just that it was not his day yesterday. Missed at least one goal by millimetres. Had so many shots blocked. Couldn't score the crucial, potentially game winning penalty. Shows that It happens to the best as well. We all have bad days in office.
It also must be said that Argentina has so much of world class talent but somehow they just can't seem to make them work together. They are not a team. If either of Messi or Ronaldo were Spanish, the GOAT debate would have been over long back!

Oh god! Is it a troll or a truth? I actually watch ISL commentary in malayalam from the same commentator, but for the world cup somehow it just felt out of place.

This has gone viral, I think that's Shyju Damodaran the commentator ?
It is true.
It is very fun to watch it in Malayalam now, unlike ISL.
Yesterday, during Peru v Denmark match, someone's shot hit the moving camera behind the goal post. They talked about the camera for two minutes, like it's name, purpose, importance, and how Sony ESPN uses it for broadcasting. :D
Speaking of fun, hope you have seen
this tweet, apparently explaining the process of Icelandic team selection.
Wow....will Mexico upset defending champions Germany ?
Mexico leading 1-0 at the moment, almost towards end of first half.

And they have been quite dominating so far. Germany is below par today. Maybe in second half they will fire up.
Brilliant counter attacks have paid off for Mexico, though Germans had most of the possession.
Looks like this World Cup is not going to be a cakewalk for the big teams. The small teams are giving them a tough time.
It is Mexico and Spain going to throw surprises this World Cup I believe.
Germany is playing brilliant match, but Mexico's aggression is seriously fun to watch and both goalkeepers are awesome.
So far Spain x Portugal was the best match.
Mexico missing couple of good chances on counter attacks... are they going to rue these missing chances?
Wow! What a match between Mexico and Germany. Mexico were completely dominating. Germany seems to have lost co-ordination!
