That's right Ferrari went to Ford's home turf where Ford's been racing from ages and took a clear 1-2-3 finish!! Ferrari was a very small racing team to achieve that.

Meanwhile it was Enzo Ferrari's plot playing second fiddle with Ford... he wanted to seem like Ferrari was sold to Ford, in truth he just wanted FIAT to jack up their offer, which worked.
You hit the nail! The movie has hyped the American angle, obviously to justify recovering its production costs in America since this would not make any money in Asia or anywhere else. Im actually starting to get a little tired of movies where the Americans glorify themselves for nothing.

And since Americans do not watch F1, they do not obviously know the history of Ferrari and how they have sustained such an expensive sport thru decades.
And ford today is a much smaller company globally that seems content with the American market and almost no interest in any racing series. So much for racing heritage!

The greatest car war - GT Vs Ferrari!
I watched this too and this is a more realistic depiction of what happened. But even in this documentary, the commentary is one sided, not fully covering the Ferrari angle. Obviously made by someone for Amazon for the American TV audience.

Felt the same here. But then what do you expect from Americans? Show themselves in poor light?

I just recently watched a documentary-movie that shows the true story. Until then I also thought that the GT40 Took the LeMans crown the very first time it raced!

The film is called "The 24 Hour War" for anyone who is interested. It gives a pretty much accurate account of what happened and is filled with accounts by the very men who created the GT40 and worked with CarolShelby and Ford as well as their contemporaries who worked with Enzo Ferrari at the time.
It's very informative and is a petrolhead's goldmine.

In this new movie , They also seem to be focussing only on Ken Miles as the driver even though there were others who played equally important roles in racing the GT40s to their victory.

But I have to say that Christian Bale as Ken Miles is just spot on.

Even though Ford basically outspent Ferrari out of the competition, we have to tip out hats to Carol Shelby's and Phil Remington's Genius.

Sorry, I didn't get your comment there. Iacocca was Chrysler. By the way, I watched, (once again), Le Mans on the telly. Riveting stuff

And Ford before that. 30 years of service, till 1978 when Henry Ford pushed him out.

As for my earlier post, they show Lee Iacocca involved in this (Jon Bernthal). But his biography makes no mention of these wins or his involvement in it.

re: The 'Ford vs Ferrari' Movie

The movie medium has an extraordinary tenacity at influencing things and history can in fact be interpreted from the viewpoint of polarized opinions. Even for this particular phase in Le Mans history the interpretations are completely different depending on the side that's doing the explanation. Just for the entertainment value I have marked this for a one time watch. There is hardly any good automobile themed movies coming around these days. Rush was quite enjoyable but that was 6 years back.

I would always like an alternate genre of movies touching upon cars or its related history rather than the Fast and the Furious series.

Ford v Ferrari releases in theatres on November 15, 2019

Ford v Ferrari starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale is scheduled to be released in theatres on November 15, 2019.

The 'Ford vs Ferrari' Movie-fordvferrari.jpg

Ford v Ferrari is a story about one of the greatest rivalries in the history of motorsports. Back in the 1960s, Ferrari was dominating at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Henry Ford II decided to beat the Italians at their own game. He was assisted by Carroll Shelby who developed the car that would race the Ferraris.

Shelby had 90 days to build the race car, which was called the Ford GT40. Eventually, in 1966, Ford went on to win Le Mans with Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at the wheel. The GT40 won 24 Hours of Le Mans again in 1967, 1968 and 1969.

re: The 'Ford vs Ferrari' Movie

"Ford Vs Ferrari" is released. The internet is overflowing with its review. Race weekend is approaching and I m going to club this movie with The Brazilian GP 2019.

Here is the review from The NewYork Times.

Quote:
It is, all in all, a pleasant surprise. Partly because Christian Bale and Matt Damon, the lead actors, are really good, and are supported by a fine cast that includes Tracy Letts in one of the best and least-expected crying scenes of the year. And partly because the car stuff — in the garage and on the track — is crisply filmed and edited, offering a reminder that movies and automobiles have a natural affinity and a lot of shared history.
Review Source.

re: The 'Ford vs Ferrari' Movie

You just gotta let this film surprise you. Many would think there will be talk of torque differentials or power to weight etc, but the brilliance of the movie is in its small revelatory details. Wouldn't want to spoil your fun by revealing nuggets...I love cars and car movies being a true joy, it was really fun. Watch this one.

re: The 'Ford vs Ferrari' Movie

Dont miss this one. Sure, the script-writers have taken liberties regarding events and timelines. But the movie tells the tale of what transpired overall while keeping us entertained throughout. Basically the whole Ferrari take over bid by Ford which precipitated a chain of events leading to the showdown at Le Mans. Sure Ford had enormous resources in comparison to Ferrari. But certain aspects of a large-corporation approach to motor-racing served to hinder than help their Le Mans Campaign. The script does shine a light on that side of the narrative. The casting is spot on. And there are some fine performances in there.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Nobody here watched Ford v. Ferrari? As expected, the performance from both the lead actors Bale and Damon have got rave reviews, and the film itself is said to be very engrossing. Have not caught the show yet, plan to watch it in the coming week.

Any reviews? This one should right up BHPians' alley!

Watched it with a fellow BHPian and our better halves too. Even the ladies liked it - there is a lot (especially subtle comedy) going on other than cars, and the film will be liked by most people.

Glad to have watched it in IMAX. Don't think the film would be as fun for us BHPians, without the thundering roar of those engines.

re: The 'Ford vs Ferrari' Movie

Beautiful movie. Though it should not have been named Ford vs. Ferrari, because there is hardly anything from the Ferrari side. It's only about Ford and how they took up the challenge to Ferrari after being humiliated.

And the best part of the movie:
"There’s a point at 7,000 RPMs where everything fades.
The machine becomes weightless. It disappears.
All that’s left, a body moving through space, and time.
At 7,000 RPM, that’s where you meet it. That’s where it waits for you."
