Re: Delhi pollution level goes from bad to worse, marked as 'severe'!!

So it will now be 3 small trucks carrying the load of 1 big truck.

Re: Delhi pollution level goes from bad to worse, marked as 'severe'!!

This person Amit Bhatt, managing director, International Council of Clean Transport (ICCT) has it appears recently landed on the earth for thd first time from outer space.

He is oblivious of other major pollutants and the now more well known culprits like burning of stubble wastes, construction, industries and coal using thermal power plants, road dust, generators and even lately identified wood for cooking and cooking fuel. He lays full blame on the Transport sector due to his ignorance.

And yes, since December 2016 Delhi and NCR have gulliontined all 10 year old diesel and 15 year old private vehicles. The result of removing all such old vehicles was that this region got its worst air quality and smog during the winter of 2020 that became the worst in history in 2021.

Quote:
“Transport is the largest contributor to pollution in Delhi NCR and steps need to be taken to control it. So, the easiest way is to restrict the use of vehicles with older technology that are assumed to be more polluting. However, this is a major regulatory flaw and grossly polluting vehicles should be identified based on in-use vehicle emission testing that is done across European countries,” said Amit Bhatt, managing director, International Council of Clean Transport (ICCT)

“The major pollutants in Delhi are PM10 and PM2.5, which are not even checked while handing over the Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. It is high time that we also start reimagining our PUC regime and bring structural changes,” he added.

The link isn’t working. But I am not fully sure if he is entirely wrong in what he is saying. The source of pollution from stubble burning is outside NCR. Within Delhi, transportation is a major cause. Having said that, there is a need to plan the cities better by decongesting the roads which will reduce pollution significantly. We spend hours with our engine turned on in NCR stuck in traffic. And NCR particularly has too many cars. It’s mind boggling how Gurgaon-Delhi highway gets clogged every single evening and how traffic completely comes to a standstill.
