Re: Automotive Vector Art & Illustrations

Inspired from Akshay! Even I tried my hands on the Adobe Illustrator.
It's not even remotely close to his, mine lacks so much in detail.
Started learning by watching videos on YouTube.

First one, Volvo S60 Polestar:

Next, Suzuki Kizashi:

Thanks Utkarsh, it looks clean and classy. I'm a sucker for old Yamahas and this RX has turned out so elegant.

I was going through the account and the artist has made some sick lowered renders. I absolutely loved the lowered Evoque. Fantasy stuff. Thanks for sharing the link turbo

Thanks Rehaan, going through this id was pure nostalgia, the cars he has worked on are the ones I grew up drooling.

That's some interesting illustrations brother and especially the rear quarter of Kizashi is surreal, difficult to believe that you're a newbie.

It's really fascinating to see that members trying their hands by taking inspiration from this thread, it's very overwhelming for me and also made me realise that what a couch potato I am, I've downloaded the illustrator but yet to use.

Here's an update from Akshay, I was penning down ownership review of my Skoda Rapid DSG and Akshay offered to work on my Heisenberg-

And if anyone's wondering as to why the car is named Heisenberg then read on this ownership review https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...iesel-dsg.html

Re: Automotive Vector Art & Illustrations

Working with the aircraft industry, I travelled to airshows, and visited the mother of all airshows, Farnborough. In the UK I had the privilege of meeting the late Frank Munger, probably the best technical illustrator, ever. Inspired by his work, I did a short course in illustration, both scientific as well as technical. Frank would often come to the classes.

http://www.motoringart.info/motoring...Munger%20Frank

Why are technical illustrators needed? With the advent of the camera, it was thought that artists had lost their jobs. However, the use of artists can easily be seen in the industrial field. I remember the owner's manuals supplied by the Jawa and Rajdoot (Czech and Polish manuals translated to English!) motorcycle firms: they had bad photographs. Modern manuals have vector based illustrations, good for clarity, and as mentioned, immune to pixelisation problems when enlarged.

I saw Quantel workstations being used in factories which filled entire rooms, that can easily be outmatched by Photoshop and Illustrator on today's home PCs, converting photos to vector formats using autotrace. Of course they were immensely useful in doing cutaways.

So what happened to my dreams of being an illustrator of my dream objects, cars? Well, a girl student, with drop dead looks, was hired before finishing the course. She used to trace photos of butterflies and roses!! I could eyeball cars and draw Spitfires from memory, but wasn't even considered! The irony was, that, in a live model class, we had to draw each other. She asked me for my drawring (that's how you say it in South London), because it turned out better than the one she had made by the pavement portrait artists in Leicester Square. I could tell you about the funny incidents with other street artists in Paris and Barcelona and myself, but that would be b(oring)oasting! Maybe my wife will spill the beans one day, since she was the one who paid for them (literally)!

Today I do paintings that convey moods. Another thing cameras can't do easily. Remember Edward Munch's "The Scream"? You can actually see some of the preceding illustrations convey the spirit of motoring so well. Nice work, Gearbox!

Horse, in the style of Ming Art. I normally do this with a brush, with no corrections. G'night, folks!

Memory is failing: that's an Arab head, on a Ming stallion!

Learnt driving with a Standard Pennant, but this is what I dreamt of owning! Check out the rear transverse spring mounted independent axles, with uneven tyre wear! Favorite kit car, like the VW bug, for mounting fibreglass modded bodies! G'night, really, this time!

Re: Automotive Vector Art & Illustrations

Found this noteworthy - both by quality of render and concept.

A next generation Omni concept as envisioned by Shashank Shekhar via Studio Trentaquattro

Re: Automotive Vector Art & Illustrations

^ That Omni looks great.

I bought an iPad pro last year with Apple pencil. What a fantastic device.
Posting few drawings I made on the same device:
Yup! that 911 with radiator in the front is a weird one. Please ignore purists.
