What I meant is that the feature first appeared on BHIM, and then other apps probably picked it up in their development cycle. I was transitioning so had both Google Pay and BHIM installed when this feature was launched; it was available only on BHIM at that time.

I did reinstall BHIM specifically for this feature. But the implementation isn't how I hoped. The approach they have taken is to "avoid" having to enter multiple entries in bank account statement for these small ticket transactions. The idea is once you put money in UPI lite and use it for payments, only BHIM would have entries while your bank would show only the first single money transfer entry.

Now the issue. My assumption was it would be treated like an on device wallet which I can use even when the network connectivity is patchy or non-existent. This wasn't the case. I tried using it for payment at remote location where my mobile had no signal and BHIM simply could not not detect the QR code. The objective seems to be reduce the burden on bank system rather than offer more convenience to customer.

Hence I uninstalled BHIM.

The substitute of Amazon Pay Wallet (full KYC) or Paytm wallet (restricted to paytm QR) would also behave like UPI lite.

Your ask is an impossibility, right? If there is no network connectivity how can anyone in the chain (your bank, provider, the merchant's bank, the merchant's aggregator...) assure the merchant that the transaction is successful? And why would the merchant provide you with good/service unless this assurance is made?

Perhaps the answer is direct peer-to-peer payments with eventual reconciliation. That I guess is quite some time away.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

PhonePe . For me the transactions failed rarely and even if failed the money returned within minutes.

Gpay : Lots of transaction failures. Have stopped using it.

Paytm : for Fasttag.

If you have a credit card linked to Google pay and scan QR code of PayZapp HDFC, it will automatically show option of payment through credit card as well as bank account. There might be other QR merchants as well which enable this option.
I believe what you refer is Bharat QR code. Only merchants who subscribed to it can receive money. I think it has MDR. Only UPI does not have MDR upto a limit with P2M transactions.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

For me Google pay failed once too often and I gave up on it. PhonePe seems to have the best success rate and works well over poor network too. I don't care much about rewards.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Started with Google Pay, but it was absolutely unreliable. An annual recharge for an AirTel pre-paid no took ~3 months to resolve. Said bye bye to UPI and took a break.

But with everyone accepting UPI's and my disability to furnish exact tender amount (I don't carry a wallet, it's some cash & a card holder for EDC), I started using Samsung Pay (linked with BHIM I recall). Didn't face any issue with it. Came back to iOS and have zero complaints with PhonePe for past 1+ year. Sticking with PhonePe.

Voted for PhonePe. I have moved away from the entire Google ecosystem.

It offers me everything that I need. So never looked for anything else.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Was an early adaptor of UPI, created a BHIM account the same day Modi launched it. Used Google Pay heavily, but have been super disappointed with it off late. It generally takes far too long to process payments (relative to PayTM and PhonePe) and have experienced higher number of failures with it.

Currently use PayTM as primary, followed by PhonePe and Google Pay as the last option.

Yeah, it could be. There got to be some difference at the backend. But it appears as normal QR payment to customer.

Off topic, it could be game changer as it has the power to make POS machines obsolete. There is no need to plugin or charge, no spend on buying POS machines by the bank, and no need of data service and monthly charges. Win win for all.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I just use the bank(ICICI) app itself for all UPI transactions and for scanning the QR codes at shops.

Voted for Others.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

I see a handful of comments voting for iMobile Pay (ICICI Bank app) and I strongly agree. Not a single failure, transaction go through every time.

As an added bonus, you can:

- See Fastag Balance
- Recharge your Fastag account
- Auto-recharge your Fastag account (when account balance falls below a certain level)

Among other apps, BHIM has been the most unreliable app (only 40% of transactions go through), followed by Google Pay (scary issues like amount deducted from bank account but payee not getting the money) and PayTM (90%+ success rate).

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Earlier I mostly used Gpay or Paytm but recently I started using CRED upi as they were giving good cashback.
The best thing about gpay is that I can very easily see when and how much money I sent and received from someone.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

My main UPI app is Google Pay, which is linked to my secondary bank account. Why? Ease of use, being able to find people easily, and track the history of my transactions with them. I also have PayTM downloaded, but use it only for Uber payments - this dates back to the time when PayTM was the only practical way to pay for Uber. I have also on occasion used UPI through my bank apps - HDFC and ICICI.

Think UPI is a fantastic system but I still use credit cards wherever they are accepted - the reward points on my HDFC Infinia are clearly worth a lot.

Re: Poll : Your preferred UPI app and why?

Voted for others since I use Icici mobile app. Main advantage is you can link the UPI to your current account and leave the savings account untouched. In Gpay, it always link to the Savings account. Disadvantage with icici is that sometimes it doesn't recognize phone numbers of recipients if that number is linked to more than one accounts.
