that's dangerous, stray bullets can kill even from an air gun. you don't want to be responsible for some freak accident involving your gun.

I would say go thru some gun safety classes before owning one.

Rule # 1 - loaded or unloaded, always point the gun to safe direction (away from population, towards a solid wall etc). and make sure anybody u hand over your gun to, understands the rules before taking it.

Some rules which you Got TO Follow.

a) Please be extremely careful while holding a gun and always point it on the ground when it is loaded.
b) Always put the trigger lock when the gun is loaded and open it only when your willing to fire.
c) Don't ever keep your gun loaded when your storing it or keeping it inside.
d) Keep the bullets away from kids and dont show them where it is.
e) While firing make sure your not aiming at a person by mistake as you really dont know whats the range of it and you dont want it to cause any freak accident.
f) Dont fool around as your mistake may make you repent the rest of your life.

Not all kinds of airguns I guess, only the more powerful ones. I might be wrong here. Can some one pls confirm?

I have .22 air rifle made in Kanpur Gun Factory, hope its not as powerful.

Dude your gun can really hurt and if the pellet is the pointed one i really wish you dont try.

One point i forgot is to not aim at drums as the bullet can rebound and change direction if aimed at from close quarters

air guns can hurt and even kill if the conditions are right.
there are plenty of superficial, but large arteries that can be hit by accident. severing them would mean a very messy death.
pretty serious damage(not necessarily lethal) can be caused if you hit a face/head with an airgun.
even ricocheting pellets can take out an eye.

@proxima- read ealier in the thread that you're going to practice on your terrace. did you read the sentence after you typed it? maybe it was an error.

I remember a time where they used to take a piece of a banana , roll it into a small ball and load it into the airgun.Phatt!!!!!Ouch.

All I can suggest to you is to be very careful.
If you really want to go shooting, then try and find out if their is a branch of the Rifle Association in the local NCC and please shoot on a proper range.
Dont try stunts on your terrace etc.
Modern city houses are not suited to such activity - only if you have ample area around your house, (read an Acre or Two of land)should you demarcate a specific area, put up warning signs and then do some target shooting there under controlled conditions with proper safety mechanism in place.
Remember, while a normal Indian .177 or .22 Air Rifle may not have a huge range, it is more than enough to cause injury even at a distance of 100 yards, especially to the eyes etc of some unwitting passerby. If the particular gun is a powerful imported one like a Crosman or a Daisy then the effective range is much higher than our Indian Air Rifles, so one has to be extra careful.
And please remember, shooting at animals and birds is a punishable offence by law.

If it is one of those AIR SOFT GUNS however, they only shoot harmless low velocity plastic pellets. While these may not hurt human beings in general, they can still cause a bit of pain to small kids and animals. Therefore either way, please be careful.
