If given a chance, would you change your Team-BHP handle?

If you jumped out of your seat and screamed with joy thinking that you can now change your Team-BHP handle, hold your horses! You can't do that anytime soon

When you filled out your registration form for the first time, chances are that you were stuck while choosing your username, right? Some of us may even have hastily chosen a random username without giving it much thought just so that we could somehow finish the form and click the 'Submit' button. Fast forward to a few days, and voila - your registration has been approved! You jump around the room, do a victory dance and sit back in front of your screen to explore your profile and privileges. But wait a minute, what about your username?! The dreaded combination of the alphanumeric values you had typed back then can surely be changed... right? However, when you hastily searched up the FAQs section only to realise that you can't change your handle, you must have been disappointed.

Of course, not all of us were hasty when it came to choosing a handle. I literally spent days to come up with the right username before finally arriving at 'CentreOfGravity'. Even then, I periodically think, if only I could change my username...

But why don't our moderators allow us to change it? One solid reason I could think of, through an example: Imagine GTO changed his username to GTR one day without informing anyone. Will that go down well with longtime Team-BHP readers? But then GTO is famous and his Jeep avatar is instantly recognisable, so that wouldn't be a major problem

. But what if revered members like V.Narayan sir (or any distinguished member for that matter) does the same? The point is, people would have a hard time keeping track. You are synonymous with your handle; if you were to change it, you would no longer be the same person that people associated your old username with. So, as much as we moan about it, there is a solid reason that our usernames can't be changed.

At the end of the day, we are humans. We never hold our horses, but want our wishes to be horses. Given that you had a chance, would you change your Team-BHP handle? If so, what would you change it to? (don't worry if a potential member borrows it; you can't change your handle anyway!) Personally, I am happy with my handle, but I would change it to 'Aerodynamic' if I could. Your turn BHPians!

There is a handle out there which I wanted, but I could not get it. I would like to change if I can get that one.

But changing handles across the forum will create a lot of confusions and is a complicated process. Guess we need to live with what we have.

Provided i am responsible and tempered enough, the forum allows me to express my views with freedom. The anonymity it affords while expressing some unpopular, and at times politically incorrect opinions is a privilege that I am unwilling to let go of. Being a paid servant of the sovereign government, a handle with my name or any personally identifiable material is a strict no for me.

Most importantly, the reasons that initially led me to choose my handle remain unchanged till date. Notwithstanding my unwavering loyalty to and bonding with the forum, I am still a reluctant driver who is forced by circumstances to take out his car every working day of the week. Ergo, its clear that I will forever remain:

Dear sir, what would then happen to the hundreds of condored posts on the forum! Condor as a verb is sacrosanct; anything else wouldn't really sound sweet or right, you see!

I had been regularly lurking on the forum for 6 months before finally taking the plunge on a very sad day. Knew nothing other than Hot Threads!

Had an accident in my Innova around 6:15 a.m. I knew it was totaled and felt that I would need guidance for all the processes that needed to be done. Signed up spontaneously around 10:30 a.m. the same day. Ideally, I would have chosen the unique username that I have on Instagram, but since TBHP is accessible to non-members as well, I preferred to be anonymous. After much deliberation, I decided to dedicate my username to the car to whom I owe my life!

Have made peace with it.

On a big & popular forum such as ours, over a period of time, the username becomes ones identity. And who would want to change their identity??!!

No, it is my real name. I have had few instances where someone recognized me after going through my posts here and called/messaged/PMed me.

Voted yes. If I could go back to the day Team-BHP was created, I'd have chosen RUSH / Rush as my handle instead of GTO. I love GTO, but I love Rush more.

Yes. The original name was based on a brand I owned and one that I will never own again

. I would love to change it like how insta allows you to once every certain timeframe.

It allows you to be more relevant to current poison or passion.

Yes. In hindsight I find my handle to be slightly childish, and would want it to reflect more of the bikes I own rather than what it is now.

I would love a KB100 handle if it is still available and if there was ever a chance to change

I had already failed the Team-Bhp entrance exam once, I tried again after a long gap & I did not think I will get through so clearly I did not spend much time thinking about the handle.

I might want to change but then this is a small price to pay for what I have gotten access to with this handle.
