Fixed colours or change according to the latest offering

Would you buy your new cars of the same colour everytime or change your preferences according to the new colours offered by manufacturers.

IMO would go ahead and buy some exciting colours such as Wine in the Verna etc if available else choose a safe colour such as White or Maroon in case the other colours in the pallette are not exciting enough.

My favourite is black any day. But it also takes some effort to keep clean as it looks bad if its dusty. After 2 blacks ikon and fiesta I moved to a silver with my Laura. I sometimes wonder if I made the right decision. But the white looks amazing too in a Laura. Personally I think darker colors look better at night and lighter colors look better in daylight.

How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

I would like to know the opinion of the fellow T-BHPians about the importance of the 'Colour' of the car to them.

What I want to know is that while buying a new car how much importance you give or gave to the colour factor.

When I bought the pre owned Fusion, I was praying while going to the dealer that the colour should be nice. I was aware that it being a rare car, I would have to pick the car in whichever colour it is available. It turned out to be Silver Green (Vitro) and I saw it for the first time. I was okayish with that colour and it grew on me.
While buying the next pre owned Fusion+ I got the Silver Blue (Tonique) colour and it was the colour which I used to make fun of in the other Fusions as it always looked faded. But the dealer told me that you were not happy with the earlier colour and later were happy so don't worry it will grow on you and exactly that happened. I am very happy with the colour.
Now while booking the T-Jet+, I thought this being my first new car I will do no compromise and pick the car in my favourite colour. But as I mentioned in my ownership thread also, I was getting a good deal in White colour piece and also immediate delivery, so opted for it. Later that colour also grew on me and I thank my stars that I made a right decision as my favourite colour in Linea T-Jet is Tuscan Wine and recently launched Oceanic Blue is close second but what I read on forum is that both are difficult to maintain. But at the same time it is still my favourite colour but I don't miss it.
So I would like to know that how important is the car colour to the T-BHPians via a poll.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

I have always liked particular shades and usually stick to them. Every car according to me has its own best shade for example love the Fortuner in the grey shade, altis in the pearl white shade, Vento in the blue, BMW in blue. When buying a new car I would not compromise on the colour. When buying used usually do give importance to the colour but it would not be a deal breaker too if I am getting a good car.
In general the best shade on any car for me is Black>white. I hate silver and golden.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

I've voted for the 3rd option, however I've had different experiences in different situations.

When buying the Swift VDi in 2008 when it was just launched, my father didn't have a problem in waiting for a couple of months for White.

In July 2009, however, even though my father didn't want a car in Silver, he readily agreed to buy the Getz CRDi in 'Space Silver' because it was the last available in stock with the dealer and more importantly he had driven the car and was quite happy with its pick-up and acceleration. The deal was finalised in 2 days and delivery within a week.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

I am ok with most colors (not the estilo Pink lol), but my wife is particular about the color. She mostly likes white or black and any other flashy colors makes the car look like a toy is what she feels. So yes, the color is very important to me.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

Many years back when I was selling my first car to a used car dealership I was told that resale value of colors other than silver, white (don't remember all that he mentioned) would be less and hence had to settle for a slightly lower price. Not sure if it was true then or if it holds true now. Of course it was a while back and I was a bit naive as well. However, I am still picky about colors and have walked out of dealerships for not getting the preferred color.

I like only RED cars. All the 4 cars i owned so far were/is red.
I have a red Punto now. I didn't go for Linea because it doesn't come in red (tuscan whine is not red!) and went for Punto.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

IMO, color is one of the attributes of overall look. It can't be seen separately from overall body shape.

Some color may look good on some car but not on the other. E.g. a dark SUV might look handsome, but may be not so with a office goer's sedan.

Personally I like most cars in most colors. Very rarely I dislike one's look due to color.

PS: People do consider maintainability of color as a criteria. General belief is white or lighter colors are more maintainable and also do not absorb as much outside heat as the darker cars.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

My vote has gone to 4, but, sometimes veteran suggestions are much more wise. When they told me dark blue would give me nightmares in NCR, well, I was not too convinced. After I took delivery, hurtburn began . I soon realized why white and silver/gray are the preferred colors in this region. I still love the colour, but probably I spend too much time attending to the nicks and scratches and spending money on car care stuff (read rubbing compounds, towels et al)

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

We prefer to have white/silver/grey as the colour of choice due to reasons like dust/scratch view-ability, suspected ease of the other vehicles being able to spot the car well in time etc.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

I think the Vinyl options these days leave less importance to the OE color of your car.
When I bought my last car I had limited color options and hence had to pick one that wasn't my fav color. However I wasn't worried as I was aware that once I'm bored of the color I can get a vinyl wrap done to it to change the color.

Re: How important is the Colour of the car to you ?

My mother used to joke that me and my dad used to think which black car\bike to buy next. Majority in my home love black, while mom loves once in a while to have a different colored car\bike.

When I was looking for another car for me, the deal between me and my wife was, either I chose the car and she choose the color or vice-verse. I immediately jumped at the first option so I had to get the TW Punto over my first preference (Black Punto). Initially I was not happy with the choice (If not black, I wanted her to choose Bossa nova white), but on one of my visits to Concord motors, I saw one shining example of TW parked in sun and that did seal the deal for me.

Now I have grown to love the color, though my heart still skips a beat when I see a well maintained black Punto.
