Kryptik, don't worry about NOC and stuff. Just drive around normally as you would in Cal. I too am from cal, but my car is from here. trust me there are a lot of WB cars here, and it will make you feel like home. NCR is full of cars with outside registrations, coz most of the people have shifted here.

My friend has been driving around his WB 20 registered Gypsy for close to 4 years now. He never faced any problems.

Hey, someone just assure me that WB is also as tolerant with vehicles
with outside registrations, -- I mean, they should also pay back the
compliments (not to NCR registrations only), right :-).
(Why am I interested ? I'm shifting with car from BLR to WB :-))

Hey Meerkat. In Calcutta, there are loads of cars with outstation plates. But, Siliguri my friend is a different matter altogether. Don't know how tolerant the local cops will be. Why don't you ping TBHP member Johy? He's from Siliguri and can give you a clearer picture.

Is it possible to pay the road tax in the new state (Haryana, for example), and retain the same WB registration number?
What is the normal validity for road tax in the NCR area? 5 years?

Razor, why do you want to pay the road tax at all ? Delhi / NCR is not very strict when it comes to cars from outside. Have seen numerous of 'em on the roads here.

Well, it's interesting...
- Move to NCR happens in Aug or thereabouts
- WB Road tax expires in Sep

So basically, it would be an out of state car in NCR with no tax paid anywhere in the country. Am sure the cops won't let that one go.

Do you need to show address proof while paying tax?

I bought my fiat palio from delhi and registred that in punjab with the same delhi number and brought it back in gurgaon , drove the same without any trouble for more than a year.
When transferred to punjab, i didnt have to pay additional road tax or anything , all it took was 1500 bucks and it was done. When i brought it back to Gurgaon i didnt have to do anything with Haryana govt, no money paid for no tax , no problems.
Just pop in with the car to delhi or gurgaon and dont worry any troubles , just give me a call.

Yellow plates means Taxi and it needs to renew its permits, road tax & fitness every year. Atleast here in Delhi/NCR.

The OP never mentioned that it was yellow plates, hence I was a bit confused about the annual tax.
