No, I love photoshopping on my Mac with CS2. Yesterday, I tried and the original looked warmer and more dramatic to me than the ones i PSed.
Obviously i didn't do the right things, or else, it would have looked like your altered image.
However, personally, i prefer slightly additional yellow, for drama.

it was shot with the kit lens (its a $100 18-55mm f 3.5-5.6 lens)that came along with the camera. You are right sir, now i realise that that the horizon doesnt look straight.

Was this shot in RAW?

The water looks a LOT better, but the silhouette of the boat looks a bit strange, especially with the white glow behind it...

How about playing with some better pics?

True, I noticed it while packing up the camera. Therefore I have partially fixed it with Photoshop healing touch on the darker parts. Yet to work on the river part.

No, I used to shoot only JPEG those days. It was a very misty surroundings, hence the hazy effect. If you notice the river closely, you will see raising mist from the water.
