I am generally very susceptible to common colds at the turn of every season. However, this time the cold has lasted for almost 2 months! I just have a slight common cold now, but it for too many days. What should be done?

My work doesn't involve any dust/pollution contact. All others at work/home are not having any cold.

That really sounded scary! Hope the person recovers.

I work in a huge plant here and there are several thousand workers spread over acres of land but there's just one major health center located on one corner of the company premises to cater to any emergencies or such. We frequently have safety mock drills and we are asked to assemble at the muster station. We've seen several workers collapse/faint during the summer when the tanks inside the ship gets really really hot (ambient temps >50'C) but they are quickly taken to the health center in the stretcher. But we never have taken a CPR course. I for one, would really want to learn how this is performed. There are several Youtube videos but those wouldn't be of much help (a dummy figure/mannequin?). IMO, this is something that each one of us must learn - could be a life saver.

Contact agencies like

Indian Red Cross Society
St John Ambulance Association - http://www.stjohnambulance.in/

They help with such trainings for organizations.

Hi.
First and foremost I am not a doctor
A cold can be irritating.
I can suggest a home remedy which works wonders.
In 500 ml of water put some ginger pieces. As I cannot give you the quantity in weight please PM a picture and I will be able to guide you. Wash the ginger and boil for 5 minutes. Add juice of half a lime and drink it hot.
Try for seven days i.e. in case you havnt tried it.
Hope this helps
Regards

^^^Any particular time to take this? Empty stomach/early morning etc? Also, can we add sugar?

I know ginger+lemon+sugar works terrific for vomiting and dysentery. I will definitely try your suggested remedy for common cold.

I am not sure of CPR bags/ procedure/ equipment as part of work place safety by GOI.

Automated external defibrillator (AED) are still expensive in India, though I think every home/ public place should have one, as they save lives.

Incident mentioned by you are usually covered by factories act. And GOI has stringent rules/ laws.
A small unit can evade rules but not a big player.

There must be safety as a dept.

People work in worst of places but use equipment and safety gears.

You mention of drill, which I think is a fire drill.

Please discuss this with concerned dept at site, as GOI has stringent rules on work place safety.

Fyi link for Factories act :
http://labour.gov.in/content/innerpa...and-health.php

Link of Course in Industrial Safety which a Safety officer undergoes.

http://www.dgfasli.nic.in/diploma1415.htm

Also Ship building material are governed by SOLAS, which is again lot of data.

People not following safety procedure ie short cut or chalta hey mindset is very different to what an organization defines as SOP.

Hi.
Instead of sugar please use honey i.e. if you are not diabetic.
Any time is good enough except keep a gap of 1 hour if you have partaken of milk products. Lemon and milk are considered as "viruddh" foods in ayurveda. Allopathy does not recognise this point. There is a .001 % chance of breaking out into a rash so why take a chance.
As you are in Pune look for "kanth sudharak". These are tiny globules popular in Maharashtra. Buy the rs 10 one rather than the rs 40 one. Effect is same so why waste money. Even the honey suggest a good brand rather than the hi fi brands. Dabur executive was on record saying that as they paid endorsement fees to A.Bacchhan they could not price it competitively.
Get well soon
Regards

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Lately, my 3 year old is developing mosquito bite like swelling on his stomach/hands/shoulders/back. Its similar to a mosquito bite, where it itches. But sometimes we are not able to understand how come a mosquito can bite on his stomach when wearing a t-shirt. When apply some medicine, the swelling goes off and remains as a grey/black patch. Is this really a mosquito bite or a allergy?

My 1.5yr old had esactly this kind of problem some 3 months back, and we were baffeled too as too how come he has a mosquito bite on the tummy and back, under the shirt.
The paediatrician said it was "German Measles". Nothing serious and it went off by its own in about 4-5 days.

In your case, how long has the problem been on ? If it is long, then consult your paediatrician. Don't delay in these matters.
It could be as simple as a simple allergy to some food item.

Offlate, since the last 2 weeks, I observing red swelling spots on both of my kid's upper palms. Doesn't look like measles, but more because of some allergy I guess. His food routine hasn't changed, although he is now eating some bit of junk stuff like Haldiram's products and cakes and biscuits. We are trying to assess what is causing it.

Its been a week. We still think its a mosquito bite, because its menace is too much in our locality. I did search about German Measles in google images, and sure its not the same. Nevertheless, we will consult a local paediatrician and check what he has to say. As far as food habits, there are no major changes. But he has got lice in his head. Any relations we can corelate

Can't think of a connection betwen Lice and rashes on body parts.
I would advise to consult a paediatrician. Don't want to take a risk with our parental "ideas".

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Is anyone familiar with ridge bone splitting method of dental implants. My friends dentist wishes to use this technique as opposed to bone grafting in the anterior maxilla. are there any advantages of using this technique. Do the success rates differ between the two? He was innitially told during extraction 2 months ago bone grafting was required and now the dentist wants to use this new technique. In this technique a chisel will be used to split and increase the gap between the bone instead of progressively drilling bigger holes in the bone. what sort of success rates can be expected?

Honey will lose it's potency if heated. (I'm not referring to the taste)

Re: Cataract for elderly?

My father(age:80/chronic diabetic/liver cirrhosis) has been advised cataract surgery.

At 'Shekar Netralaya', they have these different options of lens starting from 12mm to 1.8mm. Has anyone here undergone cataract at this hospital? What would be advisable for his age and condition?

Please advise.
