Dear hellmet,
If you are buying Caclium glucarate for its claimed detoxifying and anti cancer properties, let me warn you that there is no scientific basis. It's just plain marketing trick. Now about Iodine deficiency, how did you come to know about that, did you check for 24 hour urine Iodine levels? Very unlikely for a doctor to order that. Don't simply take Iodine as it can cause side effects.

Folks, Docs, Has anyone taken Adult Vaccinations ?

Was browsing news when came across this scary article:

http://www.bangaloremirror.com/banga.../48243619.cms?

I have never taken any vaccination in the last 25 years or more, that I can recall !! Are these vaccines indeed needed for us, adults also ?

Re: Torsemide vs Furosemide?

What is difference between torsemide(dytor) and furosemide(lasix). We keep toggling either of them based on doctors advice. The dytor works better on my father than lasix.

Are there any side effects with dytor? please advise.

There are side effects of every medicine. If you want to get scared read a Pharmacy book. Its all about the dose and patient profile. And also interactions with other drugs.

Both these drugs belong to the same class but vary in potency/duration of action /drug interactions /onset of action.

Please don't play around with drugs /doses without consulting a doctor.

If you read the label it often says 'Schedule H drugstore be sold on prescription by a Registered medical professional only.

Please take these warnings seriously.

This post may sound like a rant, but I just diagnosed a stomach cancer in a patient who has been taking painkillers like candy without accompanied by antacids and without a doctor's prescription.

He also showed me an ancient prescription by a doctor who had prescribed the painkillers to him for 5 days some years ago. He actually wanted me to help him file a case against the doctor because he doesn't have money for his treatment or any insurance. Its just depressing.

I apologise to the OP for the rant, but I just had to get it out somewhere.

Can any one suggest good Neurologist in Bangalore?

Can any one suggest good Neurologist in Bangalore who has handled cases of Parkinson's disease with good results. This is for a 65-yr old elderly relative of mine who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's.

Also, any feedback on NIMHANS for the same?

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Guys a small doubt. I am used to taking the Tetvac vaccinations and yesterday, I got one since I stepped on a nail which was rusted and went quite deep. Since I was in my native, I immediately went to a hospital which is owned by our family friend and got a shot of TT. However, it has been painful from yesterday and my previous experience with Tetvac was almost painless. Only this time I am left with a painful bottom from yesterday afternoon(time of taking the shot) till now.

Is it okay or should I be worried and consult a doctor?

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I got health check up done and these are the parameters which are outside the recommended limits. Thought of posting here before the doctor consultation next week.

Item Actual Value Recommended Value

AEC -- 0.18 10^9/L (0.2-0.5)
PCT -- .400% (0.100 - .280)
BUN/Creatinine Ratio -- 8.83% (10-15)
Uric Acid -- 7.3 mg/dl (3.5-7.2)

Could the Creatininine values be due to the fact that I am taking whey isolates? Started working out and protein a few weeks back.

Hi
First of all I am not a doctor.
Buildup of uric acid and a high creatinine count is a symptom of drinking less water. Plus alcohol plays a part.
How much water do you drink in a day? Pl measure it and then consult your doctor who doesnt prescrbe medicines at the drop of a hat. The body generally heals itself.
Hope this helps
Regards
PS: What is your age?

Hi thanks for the reply. I am 32.
Alcohol is definitely not involved here. So it might be water intake. I generally drink lots of water (or so I think due to frequent bathroom breaks ) Will monitor closely now.
My regular doctor doesn't prescribe too many medicines. Will meet him in the coming week.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hey guys,

I need another surgery on my right knee.
Had one in April 2013, but the graft failed [most likely due to a recurrence of Posterolateral Corner Injury].

My initial MRI [pre surgery] had mentioned Posterolateral Corner Injury and I was advised that I should wait and see if it heals, because surgery on my ACL will be pointless if the PLC doesn't heal.

My second MRI [pre surgery] mentioned no sign of Posterlateral Corner Injury, so I went in for surgery.

After surgery, [post 8 months of Physio] I started playing again and everything was good, until I felt a twang on the outside of my knee. Post that my knee started feeling unstable.

I got another MRI done and it mentions no visible remnant of ACL graft, it also mentions that it is highly likely that a recurrence of the PLC Injury caused the graft failure.

I was advised by my surgeon to go in for an Allograft procedure.

There is the Ramaiah University in Bangalore that has a Tissue bank and I've tried Emailing them and calling them, but get no response.

Does anyone have any contacts with any tissue banks that can provide ideally an Achilles Tendon graft or a Patellar Tendon graft.

Is there any other option apart from an Autograft?

Thanks for the help.

I am looking for methylsulfonylmethane(MSM) tablets. Most tablets in the market combine MSM with something else like Gloucosamine or Chondrotin. Does anyone know any brand of tablets which are just MSM?

Iodine deficiency is not a very common condition. Table salt has been 'iodised' in India for quite a few years now, to prevent iodine deficiency. That should take care of the RDA (recommended daily allowance) for iodine for the average adult.

Curious to know why 'hellmet' is 'hellbent' on taking iodine supplements...!

Hello WindRide,
Hope your mother-in-law is better now.

My mother-in-law too is suffering from RA for last two years. She has symptoms on the right knee, both palm fingers and both toe fingers. I have a few queries:

Are there any advances in medicine to cure this disease or stop its progression?

Does Homeopathy help? Some Homeopath claimed that he can cure this in around 1.5 years of continuous treatment under him.

Who has the best expertise and resources to treat / cure RA?
