Happened to watch "Buddy" (the malayalam flick by Anoop Menon"). A watchable movie without a storyline. Anoop did justice to his character. |

I felt the opposite. We tried watching the movie a couple of days back, but couldn't sit through and gave up after 30 odd minutes :). The basic premise was pointless, and all the main actors were trying so hard to look modern and cool, and ended up so artificial. |
Okay, 'Buddy' is a clear copy of 2010 Hollywood drama "The Kids are Alright". Stars Annette Benning, Julian Moore and Mark Rufffalo.
A must watch family drama.
Buddy tried to indianize the story. It is clearly not an inspiration, because Anoop Menon's appearance too is even copied from Mark Ruffalo's in the original.
The original was based on a lesbian couple and the sperm donor cool guy. Obviously Anoop Menon could not copy the story as is, so he modified the story and made a mess of it.
North 24 Kaatham - 9/10
Brilliant! I am not sure how this one missed my radar. Excellent acting by Nedumudi Venu, Fahadh Fazil and Swati Reddy (cuteness personified!). This man - Fahadh has some serious talent! And the wave of new-age movies are doing much better than the regular ones. The soundtracks were also good.
Hard to believe she's the same chick who played Thulasi in Subramaniapuram!
Arikil Oraal - 7/10
Okay for a mystery thriller plot. Passable IMO.
Finally, Dhrishyam released here yesterday! Going for the evening show tomorrow. Excited!

By the way try to watch 'Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus'. IMO a good one.
Cheers!

'Drishyam' is a must watch. Superb execution,.. And Very Gripping
Enjoy..!
Bought PVR tickets to watch 'Chander Pahar' (Bengali) tomorrow evening. The novel was written before independence but still remains a classic. Have huge expectations from this film. Lets see how it turns out.
OMG just reached home after watching
Drishyam. Brilliant brilliant movie! Easily the best Malayalam movie of the year and one of the best in the recent times. Lalettan and Meena's on-screen chemistry rocks! And Jeethu Joseph - this man can make some really good thrillers. His first one
Memories was a good one and this one was on a different scale altogether! Amazing story and all the cast played their parts really well - that IG lady especially. She induced a sense of hatredness in the audience. And so did that constable (Kalabhavan Shajon). Man, this guy used to do lousy comedy roles - the way he pulled off this role, nicely done! The second half is edge-of-the-seat stuff.

Thanks for the recommendation dude. On my list! :)
Oru Indian Pranayakatha- Story of a polititian who's asked to help a NRI girl by his senior party member. The girl was adopted from an orphanage by a Canadian couple and now she's here to find her real parents!
There isn't much freshness in the story or treatment. Fahad Fasil isnt in his best form but still manages to carry the film on his shoulders. Amala Paul was good. Music wasn't that good eventhough the song sung by Najeem Arshad was memorable. BGM was unnecessarily loud. The flashback scenes were cliched. 1st half was good enough but the writer and director lost the path in the post interval portion.
My Rating- 6/10. Watch it if you liked the last few films of Sathyan Anthikad.
Watched 'Oru Indian Pranayakatha' tonight. A very feel good movie and liked it very much. Fahad was extremely nice in his role. A film with no violence. A film with lot of light moments that brings a smile to your face.
Will rate 8/10 for good entertainment.
Go watch!
WOW! Watched "Drishyam" today morning!. What a movie? Fantabulous! Rating 10/10
Cheers!

Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus - 7/10
Passable. A mix of drama, comedy, action and emotions. In short, a masala movie! I never got bored of it though. Mammooka is growing old. The action sequences were just about okay. He could barely raise his leg in one of the sequences! Not bad for a debutant director regardless. :)
Immanuel - 8/10
Family entertainer and much better than DSC for a Mammooty movie. In fact, he fits the role of a loving family man and an earnest worker much more than a goonda IMO. Fahadh Fazil does a good job as well.
Guys, need reviews for:
1. Artist - Fahadh Fazil-Ann Augustine starrer. Reviews seem good but none of my friends recommended it. Is this an award movie?
2. Tourist Home.
3. Kaanchi - Indrajith starrer.
4. Aaru Sundarimaarude Katha.
Do let me know if any of those are good TP movies. TIA.

The Artist is not a commercial "entertainer" by any means. That said, it's not an award movie either, like those that win the awards and no one gets to watch. It has a good story and some good acting. It holds your attention till the end. But, if you are in the mood for time-pass movies, you should give it a miss.
There have been quite a few good Malayalam movies this year. It's a shame I couldn't watch any of them being here in Pune. Rarely do Malayalam movies get released in Pune.

Seals the deal I guess. :)
Shall watch it over the weekend. Thanks for the tip!

One mentionable thing here is in India it was in Malayalam that the highest no. of movies got released this year, and at the same time highest no. of films %wise that earned money for their producers too (PS: read this in a MM news article, cant guarantee of the same.) Nevertheless far from the situation in the near past when the film industry was almost broken in this part of the world due to varius reasons like lack of good stories, script, theatres getting converted to marriage/function halls as aftermath, and umpteen other theeories were put forth supporting the same.
True - a new wind of hope is now sweeping across...
Watched Drishyam. A very good thriller, though the plot is not realistic when you think about it in detail later. The vulgar comments/ scenes in the first half could have been avoided. Anyway, Jeethu Thomas is coming out with very good thriller movies (Memories and Drishyam) - a good change from the usual masala and the larger than life hero movies (usual mammooty movies). Rating - 4/5.
