Why i am seeing some BHPians with more than 10 infraction points but still they are not temporary banned ?
Sameer
There are a lot of threads for problems with vehicles.
Would it possible to prefix "solved" to ones which have been rectified?
probably a mass PM to revert if they have ever opened a problem thread, to update with statuses?
Why am I not able to 'thank' anyone in this thread?
^^^
The option to Thank a post in Shifting Gears section has been disabled today.
:)
There seems to be a problem with the Thank tab - it is missing. May mods will take a look into it.
EDIT: KC - thanks for the update.

No issue, Now my post which is last on the previous page will get attention because of your post! :uncontrol |
The 'Thanks' feature has been disabled in the Shifting Gear forum section.
Now every BOSS will get the same ATTENTION. You see, what I mean? :D
Cheers!
Irish :)
Can we have a LOL button for the Jokes section?
No figures need to be added to the profiles, just for the posts.
Pros:
- Could reduce silly replies for jokes
- Could distinguish good jokes from bad ones while scrolling through the lot, that's what I used to do when the 'Thanks' were there :D
There was no harm in thanks button instead it could have gone uncounted just like the posts which are created in this section.
Receiving thanks only adds up to motivation levels and enable member to post more valuable stuff!
I request mods to re-consider this.

I want to thanks this post:D :uncontrol
@ scrocher, wouldn't it be too tedious to have a button dedicated for each and every thread?

Firstly, it is possible. I've seen it on other forums.
Secondly, it's Scorcher, not Scrocher ;)
Got a few suggestions to put down:
- Can there be a separate thread on queries related to technical support. At the moment, this thread contains more technical queries than actual suggestions.
- We have strict policies and forum rules, but that is very strictly implemented on reference to high speeds. Very often we see people talking about car’s capability (or his/her own capability) by making reference to high speeds like 150 kmph or above. IMHO, any reference to speeds above 120 kmph should be regulated and possibly given an infraction ticket.
- It would be nice if the Suggestions thread is moved to another section. I agree that ‘Shifting Gears’ does not really need a ‘Thank’ button, but it’s nice to have the option to acknowledge some good suggestions.

Whoa, when did this happen? IIRC there was no communication about this. The Thanks button is very useful in all the sections. It serves different purpose in every thread. In suggestions thread, it works as +1 button where other users can vote for a useful suggestion just by thanking the poster.
Please bring it back please:.
EDIT: Going by the philosophy of TBHP, I think this decision was taken so that the Thank meter for a user shows only contribution to automobile related threads. But that can be achieved by not counting thanks received on threads under Shifting Gears section (similar to what currently happens with post counts).
^^^
Just a clarification ; There was an update regarding the same on the Announcement section. But going by the no of thanks of the post, it seems like only a handful of people have noticed it ;)
You can read the update here :

IMHO, it would have been better if there was a mass PM about the same. :)
The rationale behind this decision makes sense, but the implementation doesn't. We still allow people to post in Shifting Gears section, right? Similarly we can have the Thank You button enabled for Shifting Gears section, just dont count it towards overall Thanks received by a user.
Agreed. Not a welcome change.
"Thanks" is a way of appreciating a post, or agreeing with it, without cluttering up the thread with "single-liners" that have to be padded out so as not to be single-liners.
It's not a competition. If there's even a way of "ranking" members by thanks received, then I don't know about it --- and don't want to. Otherwise, Gandhi's suggestion is perfect: where posts don't increase the post count, thanks need not increase the thanks count.
