Hey BHPians/Mods,

How does one attach hyperlinks to text without highlighting the link's page title?

Example: If I want to link - "This post" and use the insert link feature, I'll end up with the page title suffixing the actual text.

A workaround which seems to work - remove "https://" (or "http://") from the url.

So, this link will not show the thread title, whereas this link will.

Wow that's a neat trick ! :thumbs up

Noticing slowdown on some forum pages intermittently. Switched browsers/network as well, but don't notice a particular pattern.

First screenshot from Safari, rest from Firefox.

Presently we can upload only video links from YouTube. Can something be done so that video files of some format like MP4 or WMV etc can be uploaded with the posts.

Regards

Similar issue for me too; however, with Chrome and Duck Duck Go. Problem spans across networks (Airtel & BSNL) as well as FTTH (wired and WiFi). Started last night and is ongoing.

Yep, noticing it on my laptop and phone as well! Chrome on phone and Edge on PC. Happening since morning for me!

Another way is to just remove 1 character from the end of the link, from a word in the title before the .html

Eg. the character in bold:

Yes! Definitely something I'm keen on implementing. Maybe just small 16/64MB videos to start with.

Would it be possible to give a warning message to anyone who replies to an old thread that's been inactive for say 6months?. Its not always practical to check the date of the message on a thread. Similar such messages pop up in other forums whenever we inadvertently reply to old messages.

I have seen messages by newbies who reply to old threads. I've done so myself sometimes.

I am requesting a block feature which is present on all social media apps. I think even App Store guidelines requires that social media apps have a block feature (I know Tbhp is not an app - I am just giving an example to show that this is a common feature in general in discussion platforms).

If you block someone, then you will not see his/her comments or posts & you cannot reply to him/her & also they can't see/reply to your comments/posts.

I believe there is an Ignore list feature there you can add the person to your ignore list and it serves the same purpose as you mentioned above. I never used it, but I think it’s the same.

Thank you. Didn't know about this, but found it now.

However, how exactly does this work - is it a one sided ignore or does it work both ways - I don't want the other person to reply to me also - which is how many other social media implement it.

It's one sided. You will be saved the experience of seeing their posts, but they can see yours.

So then I hope mods take this as a feature request - make a block feature where you don't see them & they can't reply to you. That's how many social media platforms implement it.

Ignore is provided by the underlying software.

Anyway, bear in mind: it is a public forum. It can be read by anyone. If a person who is blocked in the way you describe wants to see your posts, all they have to do is not log in!

Not much point in doing development work that would be so easily worked around.
