Love listening to Jagjit Singh, and my favorite Ghazal is Ahista Ahista... There is sher which was recited by Jagjit Singh (perhaps in one of his live shows, haven't seen a studio recording version of the ghazal have this sher).
Mazaar-e-kais par ruh-e-laila ek din aayi..
To armaano ke murjhaye hue kuch phool bhi layi..
Lagi kabr par rekhne phool, to kabr se awaaz ye aayi...
Chadhana phool, janeman magar, ahistaaa ahistaaa....

(and then the rest of the ghazal starts)...

For some reason find this piece to be really good...

Wow! Wow! Wow! Seeing this thread after a looong time. Nice to note couple of people with really "deep" understanding of lyrics. :-)

Couple of my favorites are:

"us mod se shuru karen phir yeh zindagi..
har shaey jahan haseen thi, hum tum the ajnabi.."

"taa umar dhoondta raha manzil main ishq ki..
anjaam yeh ki gard-e-safar le ke aa gaya..
nashtar hai mere haath mein.. kandhon pe maikada..
lo main ilaaj-e-dard-e-jigar le ke aa gaya.."

"taweezein bhi bandhwaoge jab ishq tumhe ho jayega..
mere jaise ban jaoge jab ishq tumhe ho jayega.."

"tum nahin.. gam nahin.. sharaab nahin..
aisi tanhayee kaa jawab nahin"

"gulshan ki faqat phoolon se nahin.. katon se bhi zeenat hoti hai..
jine ke liye is duniya mein gam ki bhi zaroorat hoti hai..

ae-waaiz-e- naadan karta hai tu ek qayamat ka charcha..
yahan roz nigahen milti hain.. yahan roz qayamat hoti hai.."

@panky - nice thread you have started here

. I used to listen to his & other ghazals also. But there is some "jaadu" in this man's voice & also the lyrics of his ghazals which makes you all nostalgic & yes, as some other members already said, depressed also. I had stopped listening to his ghazals for some time now exactly for these reasons. Maybe it's time to look up those cassetes again. My sincere thanks to you for starting this thread.
Some of my JS favourites

1) Pyar ka pehla khat - Face to Face
2) Koi Fariyaad - Tum Bin
3) Hotton se cholon tum

Been listening to Jagjit Singh regularly since early 70's (as also Ghulam Ali and Mehdi Hasan), but I guess my brain was not created suitable for storing and recalling lyrics!!! The one that keeps buzzing in my brain nowadays is "Aadmi, aadmi ko kya dega. Jo bhi dega, wohi Khuda dega".

Of late, JS has started losing the magic in his voice. Listened deeply to his latest album "Inteha". Would rate it app 6/10.

Even i am not big fan of his latest ones specially which got launched after 2000, they sound more of commercialized music.

One cant feel the emotions in his ghazals anymore. Thats the reason the companies are launching his old hits in new titles.

In ghazals, i listen ONLY to Jagjit Singh. I have been to his concert once in Boston.

Incidentally he and Gulzar have a concert in Hyderabad on this sunday (Oct 11th)

My all time JS song is "Baat Niklegi Tho Phir Door Thalak Jayege", a few lines from that song, maybe a bit incorrect :-

Log bewaja udhasi ka sabab poochenge
yeh bhi poochenge ki, tum itni pareshaan kyon hoon
Ungliyan Uthange Sukhe Hua Ballo ki taraf
