Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

KSM-VTec: here is something that will help you find out about all kinds of fad diets.

Here's some news for you: ALL fad diets benefit somebody or the other! I heard about a guy who got thin eating only Subway sandwiches But in the long run, these kind of diets are harmful since they do not provide a balanced diet which is the only prove way to manage your weight and more importantly you HEALTH.

Recently it was reported in the news that a young woman who had been completely addicted to chicken nuggets since she was two- she could eat nothing else- died due to malnutirion since her diet was obviously missing essential nutrients including carbohydrates. Made for macabre reading. Took away any appetite I had for crash diets of any sort.

A 3-day detox (or max for a week) is a good way to START a diet program but sustaining it will probably not have any significant beneficial effects. All the best and do keep us posted on how it goes for you.

3. Indirectly makes me pull down some weight

My suggestion would be to do GM diet every 4th wk and eat what you like for 3 wks so this for 3-4 cycles and then just control yourself on the quantity (cravings) because your stomach will demand much lower quantity of food...you would be a changed man!
Thanks for the excellent suggestions. This was exactly what I was looking for.

Spot on. I am on a starting trouble for the life long commitment. Every time I decide to change to healthy food, the junk food just overpowers me in a couple of days. I am looking for a realistic back-up help from the body too than just exercising mind control. I think if we are following a printed pattern (that is the GM diet or any other recognized diet that has been penned down), we are more likely to stick to it. At least for starters. Will definitely post updates once I get started.

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

Offlate, I have become a bit obsessive with walking more than gym as I see better results apart from also feeling better.

I am pushing myself from the last few weeks by either going to the gym or walking all 7 days of the week

Walking : Brisk walk for 4km-5kms which takes me about 45 mins

Gym : Regular and Boring routine of cycling, treadmill, crossovers and abdominal exercises for 1-1:15 hours

I walk in morning and go to gym in evening OR I go for a walk and go to gym from there directly in evening which makes me quite tired.

Is 2 hours or little more of exercise stressful on the body?

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

@mobike- Try alternating the cardio sessions in gym with some strength training and basic weights. Believe me, it will inject some much needed excitement into the boredom of your routine. Apart from building muscle, lifting weights (under proper supervision) makes you look and feel GOOD!

Walking by itself is quite a good exercise and reccomended for those who are overweight since is is low-impact cardio (jogging and running kills your knees- work on strengthening your lower-body muscles before venturing that route, is my suggestion) but supplementing it with other forms of cardio as you are is even more beneificial!

Stacey Irvine, British Girl. As far as I know, she hasn't died. She has a lot of vitamin deficiencies etc, but hasn't died. And she has a fine figure & looks healthy, though she isn't.

After 7 weeks, I weigh in 5 kg less than I did More importantly, I feel fresher, more energetic, less "chubby" (since fat is lost first from the visible places like the belly, buttocks, double chin and cheeks) and definitely a lot sexier than I used to feel!

I followed the diet religiously for 4 weeks when bulk of the transformation took place. After that some slip-ups for Christmas and New Year happened (my dietician and doctor-friend assure me this is normal). I missed a week and a half of gym because of viral infections. That had my dietician a little worried and she was considering putting me on a less stringent diet but I declined. Now I am fine and back at the regimen. Hope to get below 90 kg to start with (currently at 93).

This thread is an inspiration: people like Jignesh above are the reason we are all here!

Edit: Regarding the Ayur Slim query, I second what mobike says below. You should however chew on roasted flax seeds once or twice a day which has the effect of speeding up your body's metabolism, plus it's completely natural.
Hey, I haven't been on T-BHP for a while, so missed this. Very few things feel better than losing some fat

I think it's okay to slip-up because of festivals/social gatherings etc. As long as you are doing it right, and have enough motivation and will-power - it's all great.

Bodybuilding, as long as steroids are not involved, is one of the most rewarding hobbies btw. Don't give it up. You live longer and healthier (both physically and mentally), and as you pointed out - you keep getting more attractive, and keep getting more female attention, as you age.

Also, all it takes is about 2.5-4 hours a week, and a slightly disciplined diet. Diet itself isn't much of an issue - one just needs to clean it up (no processed carbs, minimum sugar etc). Of course, it becomes a lot easier if one loves being a non-vegetarian

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

Oh my God! Started with day 1 of the GM diet. I had observed 32 hr fasting long back and this is as tough as fasting, as the fruits get digested in no time. And the 10-12 glasses of water will make you visit the rest-room too often. It will be tough to maintain strenuous day-to-day activities on this diet. Though I had the advantage of being at home for a week, I had to run some errands and felt famished after the tasks. Today, I had been munching on water-melon, apple, papaya and lots of H2O. I tend to follow the program elaborated at GM Diet | General Motors Diet Plan, Reviews and Tips

My intention is to get started on better food habits as I have found long terms diets to be so depressing and impractical. If I am not able to form better food habits, I might have to return to this diet once in a while, as KSM-Vtec suggested in one of the posts above (of course, only if I find myself successful on this diet). I was weighing 77-78 kgs (my scale is not too accurate) yesterday and will weigh myself again only after 7 days, to keep myself motivated.

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

Guess what? I cheated myself.

No, not on the dieting, but on checking my weight

It read 75-75.5 kg after 2 days, on the third day morning. But after that, there is no improvement. Day 2 and day 3 were equally famished and I really doubt how one can do his duties in a hectic working environment. I could not carry out even the basic of exercises like walking, on these days.

Thanks to bananas and milk on day 4, I got renewed vigor both mentally and physically, and am able to do normal activities this day. Also, I don't feel that hungry on day 4. Planning to incorporate chicken instead of beef for the next 2 days. Going by the weight loss pattern on days 3 and 4, I don't expect to loose more weight from here on.

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

@Thoma- I think you need to dial it down a bit. Not every diet works for everyone. Also, I think you are expecting too much too soon. Your body typically takes a week for any weight gain or loss to register. Step off that scale: a watched pot never boils, remember?

I have been seriously slacking off on the workout front- had a couple of trips out of town which became a convenient excuse to skip gym! So far it isn't showing but if I continue this way, it will be the same depressing cycle again. And I will NOT let that happen.

Hello Noopster,

I have been travelling since last ten years & I have never let my diet / excercise plan go down.

I have travelled to North India in winter seasons where people just enjoy sweets & deep fried foods, I never consumed them (apart from having one small piece for taste). Also I have always done my morning Yoga & night walking no matter where I am. I have continued this routine even in my recent trip to Germany.

Due to above, I many times become laughing stock between my colleagues & friends, but still I stick to my regimen. After all I am determined to maintain my current weight. Because by no means I want to go back to how I was in 2001 (picture on Page 16 of this thread).

Thanks,

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

@Jignesh- thanks! Actually I don't have to look very far for a role model: my Dad has a diet and exercise regimen that he has been following religiously for the past 40 years!

Good news is I got back on the wagon today Woke up with the alarm and hit the gym. There is no better feeling than the one immediately after a rigorous workout. I need to remember that feeling so that the getting out of bed is easier!

Have put on half a kg back since I'd missed gym for over a week and haven't exactly been strict with my diet as well.

So true!!

In fact that was just my case a year back. Really took myself for granted and the result was a pot belly.
But now things have changed thanks to to my cousin brother who is a professional body builder and current Mr. India 2012 in his category (He has a polio is his left leg) hence they have a different category under which they compete.
He has charted out a workout and diet plan for me and OHH boy!! never been in such a good shape before.
Lost almost all the excess body fat but not the weight. Whenever I feel lethargic to work out I watch the video that he has posted on you tube and that makes me want to believe that nothing in impossible. Just believe in yourself and you can do it.
Thought I would share the video for you guys too

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

The weight loss program like dieting, walking and other physical exercise works well but if i stop for even as low as two days still i can feel that i have put on weight. What i meant to say is the weight increases in a rapid speed if physical exercises is stopped for even two days.

Re: The Weight Loss Thread.

Effect wise, which is better?
2 hour of cycling over two days with an hour each day.
OR
2 Hours of cycling(continuous) in one day and resting the next day.

I don't think so.

MY weight on 16-Jan-2012 was 93.7.
On 17-Jan it was 95.3

I am used to these fluctuations of 1.5 kilos over a 24 hour period.
Then I went on my Rider Mania trip planning stage.
So I stopped cycling to office and only used my bike.

On 6-Feb, after a period of hotel food highly partial to non-veg and sweets. Also most meals were at odd times. I weighed myself after cycling to office.
95.8

The only thing I avoided during the entire period was snacks.

Depends on which effects are you looking forward to?

Fat loss? Daily effort pays - so in your case its one hour each day.

Preparing for some marathon? (=increasing stamina) then 2 hours one day, and resting the other day is better.

But of course you cannot ignore the intensity aspect too.
Your intensity while doing 1 hour ride would be much higher than doing a 2 hour ride.
HOWEVER - while trying to increase stamina - you would be interested in increasing the intensity over a period of time!
What really matters is the rest afterwards and the progression in intensity and duration each time you sit on the cycle.

In case of fat loss - its calories expended that matter.
So if you are able to ride for 2 hours while keeping the intensity low - its better than riding for 10 minutes with high intensity.
Usually in fat loss regime, you cannot maintain high intensity levels, and it doesn't matter also.
