Bill Maher (Realtime with Bill Maher on HBO Central - mostly watch it on youtube).
Jay Leno/David Letterman, more or less on the same scale
Conan o'Brien sucks..seems more like juvenile antics to me.

the Hindi ones which now come on TV generally suck. In fact, I feel nauseous when Siddhu laughs on national television.

Nice thread with its niche following.

The only thing I find upsetting are the last two sentences from the first paragraph of the opening post.

Where is the need to run down the Hindi ones on TV including Sidhu. Nauseous, I am sure that the channel can be switched/avoided and that is perfectly all right.

You wish to discuss English stand up comedy please go ahead and do so, even I like Drew Carey and follow Whose Line is it anyway but come on not by trampling over your own National language or shows associated with the language.

We have enough people who find it infra dig to speak in Hindi or be associated with it. If we cannot prevent it then at least let us not encourage this tendency.

I do understand this might not have been the intent and as an acknowledgement of the same, I have quoted only the relevant content from the post and removed all personal references.

BTW, I believe that Raju Shrivastava and Ehsaan Qureshi are World Class, there are a couple of others with very well prepared scripts, (Albela is another that comes to mind) and stupendous delivery styles.

As for N.S.S., his quotes & one liners on the show are legendary and his utterances in the QUEEN's language could put most of the Int'l stand up comedians to shame. Don't believe me, just catch him during one of his stints as a commentator for the ICC matches. It is one thing to stand and deliver from a script for so called 'Live shows' and a completely different thing to come up with appropriate put downs & one liners at the spur of the moment. The man has earned his right to Laugh away as much as his heart desires and then some more.

+++ totally agree with khoj. NSS knowledge/delivery of both hindi/eng is second par none.

Give me Shekar Suman/Raju/Ehsaan etc anyday over the likes of Conan.

Come on back guys I ain't preaching no more

@sanjayc

Thanks for the support man but it seems my little lecture above has dampened the spirits of the Angrej, so here is something to lighten the mood.

Wonder of wonders these guys are all Desis but what is that coming out of their mouths.. it is the Queen's language and it is rather humorous.

My bad for adding that statement! But you should see The Great Indian Laughter Challenge on Star One now and you will understand the quality of the jokes. You will always get that "Ah! I have heard it somewhere" thought in your mind. Yes, I do watch Comedy Circus on Sony for all the good jokes which are generally 'below the belt' ones

Ehsaan Qureshi was really good, I feel he deserved to win the contest. Raju repeats the same joke at every comedy show he goes to. Shekhar Suman is also too good. I also remember that Punjabi guy who used to come on DD. Saw some of his old shows and his jokes were good and 'original'.
