IIRC, paper adverts are necessary for change of time, not addition.

Nope, Renewal is generally quicker than fresh application.

I could not see any option for addition. If no paper cuttings required, Should I just get a new form, fill it up and apply for the changes with the normal requirements i.e. photo, identity/address proof etc?

thanks

If you just want to add the name, all you require is your BC. Photo, identity/address proof not required.

Please call up the helpline no. to find out more.

Thanks Waseem.

I did call the helpline number, but they are categorizing it as name change and give me the procedure for that. anyway, most probably go to a seva kendra and get it clarified.

So I have submitted the application for re-issue.
However quite a few new things:
1. Change in address. They have mentioned Aadhar Card is acceptable. However you need to have Aadhar card issued one year before the application.
No where in the Aadhar card can I find the date when it was issued ...

2. Addition of Spouse name: they have asked for ATTESTED copy of marriage certificate. Who attests this?

Hi Alpha,

I am going through the exact same process. For address proof, you can use the IT return or a company letter should also suffice.

ATTESTED Copy means you need to get the signature of a gazetted officer on the photo copy of the marriage certificate.

I have booked my appointment for the 26th. What about you?

Mine is 13th Dec ... now who all are the gazetted officers?
I lived in Delhi, and the whole colony was full with Govt officials ... but I cannot visit Delhi (from Pune) just for this reason!

Who can I get hold of now?

Bank statements of last one year (endorsed by the bank) with the bank passbook copy (with your pic) serves as address proof.Letter from Employer also serves as address proof.

A doctor who works in a government hospital would suffice.

Hi Guys,

I have booked an appointment for renewal of passport (with address change) at one of the Chennai PSKs.

I have read through the past 20-30 pages of this thread and gained some valuable info (a very useful thread overall), but I do have some questions, would appreciate if someone can help clarify:

On address proof:
1> Planned to take one or two bank's statements (both private scheduled banks). What they usually provide (for visa purposes etc) is a printout on which they put their seal and signature on each page. As far as I know they don't have the passbook system and I don't think they have any option of photo passbook either? Will that be an issue? I have already booked the appointment and don't have much time to make changes in the bank etc.

2> Letter from employer: The website says public limited company only but it seems that others in the thread have used letters from private companies. My company is an MNC but not a public limited company in India. Do they accept letters from private/MNC companies? Or is this subject to the whims and moods of the PSK staff?

3> Telephone Bill: My landline connection is Airtel and not BSNL and also the bills are e-bill printouts. Will those be valid? Do I need any additional attestation etc? The website does not clearly say anything on that. Can anybody clarify on this?

4> I can also provide IT returns. However, my IT returns for the last two years are electronically filed and it will be in the form of a printout. Will that be accepted?

P.S: All the above document types are listed as accepted for my category of renewal on the website, however just want to clarify my doubts on the finer details.

Visa:

I have a 10-year US visa valid for another year and a half but need to renew my passport as it is due for renewal. I understand that he visa on the old passport is valid and I need to carry both passports, however the address on my old and new passports will be different. Will that be an issue?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

^Can anyone advice on the above please?

Any letter with bank seal is acceptable, if I remember.

MNC office letter with seal is acceptable.

Not certain, but these are usually in electronic form.

I have used IT returns, and the printouts are valid proof. You don't need the ack.

Not an issue. You will have to carry both when you travel (they usually staple them). The old passport is marked 'Cancelled' across the address page, so u can't use it as address proof ever.

Responses inline. Hope this helps. Also pls call the PSK help desk or call centre; they are usually very polite. Their website gives the following.
You can ask your queries at the following places:
By visiting our website www.passportindia.gov.in
By calling call centre at 1800-258-1800
By visiting Helpdesk at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra

Thanks Juggy for your advice.

So the visit on 13th Dec has been concluded.
A few points - the marriage certificate had to be self attested.
The Company letter (bonafide) had to be accompanied with company ID card copy.

Other than these, I was bothered by the long queues at every counter.
In pune you need to first get your file in order (a counter with queue) - the person helps you with the file, documents and gives a token.
You then go to next section (A) where your photo is taken and documents verified.

You then go to next section (B) where again your docs are verified.
The same happens in (C) section.

The funny thing is that we have say 20 counters in A -> 10 counters in B -> 5 counters in C.

Why is this so? Anyone will have to cross these three hurdles anyway, all it leads to is slow processing, since the queue in the consecutive counter is longer. Also why this 3 fold verification of the same documents?

Anyway I entered at 10 am, exited at 12 pm. 2 hours spent.
Now lets see the police verification part.
Do we still have to pay bribes to policewalla these days?
