This is valid only if you have a passport issued decades back.
The ones which has photograph pasted and particulars hand written.

If your have the one with scanned printed photo and machine typed details then yours is already machine readable.
Or is it that 20 year valid passports were issued only decades back when it was hand filled? (and now there are no 20 years passports issued)

Absolutely right info. You cannot get visa(s) from most of the countries (US,UK,Schengen etc) if you have a PP with a 20 year validity and is hand written.

Waseem.

My PP expires at the month end, so I applied online today and got an appointment for 1445 on 20-01-14 at the Andheri MIDC PSK. Since it is a re-issue with address change, I need to carry copies (self attested) of residence proof - I plan to carry Electricity Bill (Reliance), telephone bill (MTNL) , Gas bill (MGL) and Aadhar card.

Is that ok ? Any other things I would have to keep in mind ?

No pics right ? They have facilities there no ?

EDIT - I filled up spouse details while filling up the form - will that be added by default ?

Gautam bhai,
  • Carry some spare photographs along with you. In case there is some camera trouble, you can get your picture scanned and used for passport.
  • Don't forget to carry the existing passport as well:D along with some photo copies.
  • If your appointment is at 1445, reach there only by 1435/1440 as they would not allow you inside before that time.
  • Lead time at the main counter is 30-45 mins and this is where they would prepare the file and hand it over to you. Subsequently, your wait inside at each of the counters would be about 5-10 mins each.
  • You can expect to come out of the PSK latest by 16:15 (1.5 hours max).

Thank you Amit for the info. - what about addition of spouse name ? Though I have filled up details havent specifically indicated the same ? Can I ask them to do it when the prep the file ?

PP + 2 photo copies
Electricity Bill + photo copies (last year and this year)
Gas bill + photo copy
Phone bill + Photo copy
Aadhar card + photo copy
Marriage certificate + photo copy
a few photos

All photo copies are self attested, right ?

Carry max 2 of them with photocopies.

Waseem.

Does anyone have an idea on what documents are needed to show a name correction during renewal.

The Government started to issue Machine Readable Passports only in 2001 (as per the attachment).

So if you are holding a passport issued before 2001, having a 20 year validity from the date of issue, then this applies to you.
