For generations brought up on Victorian morals (imposed by British on its colonies), human body and its public display is taboo. That's why our generation demands censorship and are intolerant towards any public display of certain parts of the human body.

Ofcourse, the question as to why Britain itself is immune to Victorian morals is worth pondering over ....

If that was the case then why would we see > 70% of the people voting for finding TIO offensive/ embarassing.
And if we do then what are we going to do about it ? Simply ignore it like we do for all the other things in public life..

There 70% are people on a rather small sample size of T-BHP which becomes even smaller because a small percentage of people actually read this thread. Adding to that compare number of voters here to the total number of hits on this thread. Considering on a conservative side that 50% hits are unique hits it this means a lot many people did not feel it is worth voting on this topic. Since they did not feel strongly for the question one interpretation is that they do not mind TOI.

So still this 70% is opinion of a small minority.

Now lets check the reality Times of India is 11ths most read newspaper in country ( see the readership table I have provided ) and no 1 among English dailys. So definitely a lot many more people vote for it by paying 2 rupees to purchase it.

1. It was always hypocrisy anyway.

2. The rest of the world had the 1960s.

you don't have to bring the queen into discussion, don't we already have our own censorship to deal with?

I am curious about "our generation" though. AFAIK, thee are two way one can grow up. Go with the flow, or become obsolete with "our generation" and keep cribbing about it.

seriously, future belongs to the next generation, the more we censor, the more we will alienate from them.

Dude, seriously, this is not about morality at all. At least not for me. If i want to watch some half naked ladies, or even fully-n, i will go to appropriate site, meant for that. Not open a **news** paper.

eva longoria constantly appears on the sports section. As i understand, she attends those nba matches because her boy friend plays in it. I never knew who that guy is, because toi never put his photo or talks much about him or his game.

If you still didnt get it, **sports** is meant to cover exactly that, the sports. Not the WAGs.

I mean common, just because we want to be liberal w.r.t to clothes doesn't mean that page after page they we have to have these soft porn pics.

Best line on the thread!
Makes my blood boil to see WAGs and their antics take up more space than the actual sportsmen and their deeds.

On the flip side, I hate TOI's proof-reading. Whoever does it should be fired. The grammar & overall language standards are awful. Way too many glaring errors. I don't like their sensationalist style of reporting either (Model who commits suicide is on the front page!!!). And I hate the TOI supplements (Bombay Times, Zigwheels etc. etc.). All of them read like press releases.

For now though, I'm going to stick it out with TOI. Can't have breakfast without it.
GTO, try Mint for business news, as its not only about news but also columns which are of interest. You will start liking it.

I prefer HT for local news and TOI for international news. (News , not sensational items carried as news)

I do subscribe to Mint. Very good quality. It is more than just a business paper. But they have started picking up heavy traces of psedo-sec.
But heck all are biased in one way or other.

For all Ye Nobel souls,.. shift to THE HINDU !!

Rest of you ease up and get used to a little skin !

Nothing wrong with being motivated to look better.
Why not Eat right, work out, and strive to look hotter,..rather than call it soft porn ?

Times are changing pops !

AFAI understand majority of news papers in India including Hindu and TOI are already self censored whenever it comes to topics such as chopping of hand of a college lecturer in Kerala by fundamentalists or the way NHAI contracts are bagged by a prominent son of the soil in TamilNadu and various other scams in various states.

I do not mind the physical nudity in newspaper but moral nudity of the kind mentioned above is the real problem for me.

OT: did any of you visit the temple in Bhatkal and saw the murals on the wall or even the engravings in the outer peripheral of Padmnabham temple in Thiruananthpuram ? Surely asking for censorship is not our culture but a cultural element of our western and northwestern neighbors.
@amit - great point. If the thread creator is really interested in knowing the way people think (not just newspaper - connected items like nudity), can he add a poll also to check how parents will take take their children to such temples (add also konark and khajuraho) and close the kids eyes till they reach the sanctum sanctorum.

Has anyone (the Hindus here) tried explaining the legends of Krishna to their children.

Anyways this thread has the potential of slipping away into political-ideological debates which meander away into nothingness. I say 'good luck to the kids - Porn is free on the net'.
