Woman throws brick at traffic cop's motorcycle. Cop throws brick at woman. Cop sacked

Quote:
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police's image as a force that protects citizens lay in tatters as a traffic cop was videotaped hitting a woman two-wheeler rider with a brick after she allegedly refused to pay him a bribe for jumping a light at the plush Golf Links locality of central Delhi on Monday afternoon.

The policeman, head constable Satish Chandra, 49, was first suspended after the video clip started being aired on TV. As outrage over the attack grew, the cop was dismissed from service and criminal charges slapped on him.

The video clip, shot by a passerby, shows the woman picking up a brick and throwing it at the policeman. He ducks, then picks up a brick and throws it hard at the woman who suffered a hairline fracture on her wrist and injuries to her waist.

Hmm...
1. Lady with 3 in scooter, breaks signals, defies cop & refuses to pay fine & throws brick at Policeman
2. So Policeman throws brick back at Lady
Now Lady is heroine & Policeman becomes the Villain

re: Woman & traffic cop throw a brick at each other, cop sacked

Those who live by the brick, get fractured by the brick.

Had this been a case of male vs male, the traffic offender would be in jail. Now since there is a gender difference, the cop is obviously the bad guy. Also, the cop took the adage 'an eye for an eye' a little too seriously.

What the cop did is unbecoming of an officer on duty. His punishment is justified and well deserved.
That said, the 'lady' is no angel either. She already has a ready list of offences that can be slapped; jumping signal, obstruction of duty, assaulting an officer on duty etc.! But once a story comes into the mainstream media purview, there have to be clear-cut victim and victimised characters. How will a story sell otherwise?

re: Woman & traffic cop throw a brick at each other, cop sacked

1. This woman broke the law by having 3 other people on her scooter.
2. This woman did not have any license or registration on her.
3. This woman broke the law by jumping the traffic light.
4. This woman obstructed an officer of the law towards discharging his duties
5. This woman ignored the warnings of a traffic cop and tried to drive away.
6. When the cop tried to stop this woman, she acted in a criminal manner by throwing a brick at a traffic cop.
7. The cop was suspended for throwing the brick back at her. No action against this criminal woman.

Brilliant!!!

Signs of times to come. Where both parties are at fault but activism by media lands only one of them in a mess.
But what the officer did was really nasty - no matter what, you cannot assault a women -however wrong she may be.
That being said, the lady should not go scot free either.

re: Woman & traffic cop throw a brick at each other, cop sacked

This is India. Judgement by the media for the underdogs and the fairer gender, wait its neither its what makes a sensation and increases the TRP. Now who is going to slap the above charges on the lady?

Similarly here in Chennai, a motorist was killed, when the cops tried stopping a speeding motorist who was delivering triples, when he crashed into a median, and a rod pierced his abdomen. Apparently the police hit them with a lathi when they did not stop. Now the entire blame is on the police. They forgot that the rod was anyway a public hazard, and it could have been a pedestrian or another motorist who lost control. The issue I see with the police is that they could have taken him to the hospital. Yep they could have informed the next point, but knowing these guys, they will scoot into bylanes. That said the cops are no saints.

Is a head constable considered as an officer? IIRC, it is equivalent to a sergeant.

Please watch the video: The woman threw a brick at the bike (NOT the cop). The cop retaliated by throwing a brick at her.

The woman's actions are certainly not justified. She broke the law and behaved in an unruly manner.

But equally, the cop should NOT have thrown a brick at her. Again, while she did throw a brick, it was on the bike, and not him.

Both parties have broken the law and action should be taken against both, not just the cop.

'Law' aside, stupid people breaking signals while riding with 2 children & abusing cops is NOT acceptable.

Even though cops have stressful jobs, he shouldn't have thrown a brick at HER!

People stop thinking during Road Rage.

re: Lady & Traffic cop throws bricks at each other. Cop sacked

Here's a similar incident at K.K.Nagar, Madras - http://tamil.thehindu.com/tamilnadu/...?homepage=true

Summary - Guys in two wheeler rides triples; Traffic police constable asks to stop & as usual they try to flee; police use lathi to beat them due to which they fall down & one guy dies. People surrounding thrashes the policeman

Reply from Police Dept - No one wants to blame the 3 people riding on a single motorcycle, but want to point fingers are policemen who're doing their job. Even though the public has raised a question as why the number was noted & offence could've been charged, the police answers that what if those 3 people are running away after committing a bigger crime? What if that vehicle was stolen? Why should they run away when the policeman signals them to stop? Majority of the people are going fast, not wearing seat belts, drunken driving, no proper documents. People who follow all the rules have nothing to fear from police nor can police do any harm to them

Unlike DL, TN (and the media) narrates the other side of Police...
- Cops have to work 12 hours a day & if there're any VIP movements, the 12 hours gets extended
- They don't have facilities to even attend nature's call
- They've to report fine collected from 200 4 wheelers & 400 2 wheelers everyday, otherwise, they're accused of taking bribe
- On asking about the bribes at lower level of traffic constables, they blame that they're asking for bribes due to the pressure from their higher-ups

I don't see how that's connected to the case in question or has any bearing on the discussion. Quite beside the point I was trying to make, is it not?
'Officer' or not, he was still a policeman who was on duty.

But since you've asked, maybe this helps..?

" A police officer (also known as a policeman/policewoman, patrolman/patrolwoman, police agent, and constable in some forces, particularly in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations) is a warranted employee of a police force. In the United States, "officer" is the formal name of the lowest police rank. In many other countries, "officer" is a generic term not specifying a particular rank, and the lowest rank is often "constable" "

Re: Traffic cop throws brick at woman, sacked

I totally agree that the cop shouldn't have thrown the brick at the women. But the lady instigated the cop and the cop retaliated. Both should be punished and not just the cop.

But the way our country runs the women is bound to go free and even declared a hero by the media.

The stress levels of these cops is beyond what humans can take, clearly outnumbered and over worked.

Here in mumbai I see cops manning the junctions at 40+C temperature around smoke serving cars and ear numbing continuous honking.

Between your point #5 & #6, she claims the cop kicked her scooter. Read that on another 'news' site.

Good point, and one that most people would miss, since our lovely media's 1min 10second video shows the following:

Cop throws brick at woman : Shown 6 times
Woman then struggles to stop cop (from throwing back the brick she threw) : Shown 7 times.
Woman throws brick at cop's bike : Shown only 1 time, in the last 5 seconds of the video, when chronologically it was the first event in the video!

Also who knows what happened before the video began rolling, as at the start of the video, the woman already has a brick in her hand, and so does the cop.

Simply hilarious. Unless the general public themselves don't know who is right and who is wrong, who will stand up for the truth? Here the boys were wrong and the cop just doing his duty. We Indians have serious work to do on our sympathy factor. Unfortunately here, the bigger vehicle person is always held at fault and the person injured/deceased is always held innocent even if it was he/her who caused the whole fiasco to happen in the first place and was technically wholly wrong! Only God can help us. Maybe.

Nobody is defending the actions of the cop. Accordingly, he was sacked and proceedings initiated against him. But by not filing any criminal charges against the woman, the law/system is defending the law breaker.
