Brand New FIESTA Pulls like a TVS Moped on Test Drive!!

Folks, I GOT to share this with you!

I returned to India from USA last week and am checking out cars. I went to Kairali Ford of Cochin for a TD on Fiesta.

Got a car with the plastic lining etc in place and the speedo disconnected. pulled into traffic, and immediately felt something is wrong. The darn thing suddenly looses torque at 2K RPM, and I feel like I am on the TVS moped I used to ride long time ago.

I had not driven a stick shift for 6 years. Even before that I had an M800. So, I was totally confused if I was doing anything wrong. I put her in second and totally floors it. It coughs and never pulls ahead. I stopped the car and asked the guy to drive us back.

THEN he agrees that something is wrong, and gives all kinds of stories that it not being done inspection etc.

Anyways, Drove another car, which did fine. Booked one anyways. Will post further experiences here.

Dileep, looks like some problem with the car you tried.
Congrats on your new car booking though. Is it the 1.4 or 1.6?

I had extensively researched the class, ie NHC, Fiesta, Aveo and Verna. Frankly, there is not much of big difference in class, so the selection is more of subjective. No clear choice there.

The lady and kids really liked the looks of fiesta, in contrast to NHC and Verna. They also did like Aveo. Their tipping point was that not many Aveos are seen around while the road is filled with Fiestas and NHCs.

Sure the problem I saw was a per-unit problem. I have two issues with it. One, (unless the disconnection of speedo etc caused it) it came to the dealer from the factory. Two, the dealer offered it for TD to a prospective customer. I have seen the world of technology enough to understand that it does happen sometimes, and do not judge things based on a single incident.

Anyway, the one I booked is 1.6SXI/ABS, color platinum. Will add matching alloys, and that will be it I guess.

I am not a "cars" guy, but I was impressed by the brake/ABS of the car I drove (the good one). Hit it hard at 90kmph, and she came to a nice straight stop. Tried weaving around a few trucks etc on the byepass, and that too was impressive.

Congrats Dileep on your new buy.
One question though .. do you find it safe to buy from a dealer who offers new cars for test drive? How will you make sure that the car you get hasn't been test driven with the odo disconnected?

I believe Kairali Ford is the only Ford dealer in cochin, which means he did not really have any other choice.

The SXI comes with factory fitted alloys though I wouldn't blame you for not liking them and wanting to change!

Absolutely, can vouch for that as I have one too! The stopping power is amazing, perhaps more noticeable to me after the Ikon!

Congratulations on (what I feel is) an EXCELLENT decision, you will have many years of unadulterated driving pleasure

According to the brochure and the salesguy, the 1.6SXI DO NOT come with alloys.

Kairali is the only game in town. And As I understand, it would be difficult to find a dealer who do not give new cars for TDs. Poor customers will do first year/first gear type breaking in on a car that had gone from 0 to 5000 RPM in 2 seconds!!

Nice alloys ben. Will keep it in mind.
