Benny, Stone again !!! Maan, Mike does have some affinity with stones.

My suggession, forget about bonus and stuffs. Just go and change your windscreen. If the expenditure is less then pay from pocket or else claim it.

Hope the remaining journey was fine. How is your mom doing now?

Abhi

The Saint Gobain windshield costs Rs.5985 inclusive of labour.
Claim insurance and it costs you exactly Rs.850. The remaining is on the insurer.
Btw, when do u need to renew your insurance?

I once lost a helmet visor to a stone that flew off a truck.

If a stone can break a windsheild, imagine what it can do to your face.

bike riders wear a full faced helmet with a high quality shield.

strange coincidence, the first crack was reported on 23rd April 2007 and the new one on 24th April 2008. Seems the month of April is not good for you..... jokes apart it really hurts when something like this happens which is unavoidable. But please change the wind shield as soon as possible as it is very dangerous to drive around with it. The entire thing may fall on you and the passenger while going over a small bump..

shucks dude , this is so strange..I kept checking the dates of your previous thread to make sure I wasnt reading the same thing again. Your last post date is 23rd of April 2007 and this one is 24th April 2008. Strange and a sad coincidence man.
I think you should get the windshield replaced bro, doesnt make sense trying to save a couple of k's as I am sure it would become really difficult to drive at nights.
Hope your mom is doing better now. My get well soon wishes for her.

Mom is fine now, and back home resting, although at that moment of time one really did have the jitters.

On the return journey i took the Palacode route to Bangalore, and also slightly masked the KA from my registration plate.

Nitrous, the renewal is due in September. Is the Saint Gobain windshield from WE the same as the one which is available from the dealer?

BlackPearl, strange now that you mention the dates.

This is really unfortunate. More so because it seems it was done by miscreants.
Benny, it seems you need to be extra careful in the month of April.

If you wait until Sep and then change it, NCB savings will be higher since you are claiming the bonus earlier (since the Insured Value and Premium are higher in the early life of your car). Also, you can drive the whole of next year without having the fear of losing NCB (since you would have already claimed insurance).

However, I would have changed it rightaway, since
1. You may want to drive at higher speeds occasionally. With a broken windshield, it is dangerous
2. There is no guarantee that you will not need to claim insurance in the next 5 months

Oops, as jeep mentioned you need to be careful in the month os April!!

I think at most you should be loosing about 3k on NCB, dont think its worth risking... go ahead and get your WS changed...

take care...

even i believe - april is the time winshields crack

5th April .. was on a road under repair .. was behind a lorry .. both going at 20 kmph .. one big white stone out of the blue ... literally hit the corner with a thud .. even if it was a few millimeteres off the target it would have hit the beading or the metal frame and i could have been lucky :(

If I remember correctly there was a case in the past that I have heard of when a pedestrian was killed by a stone projectile like this. That was happened somewhere in OR near jaipur. I was in a hostel in Kota in 1998 at that time and my room-mate was from jaipur who told me that. I dont remember why this topic had come up at that time.
