Well the same happened with me as well. The car is kept in Prayagraj and one fine day I received an SMS that toll of 30 rs has been deducted from my Paytm fastag on passing a toll plaza in Bikaner.

Well since I had already changed my registration no. I was in the process of changing the
vehicle no. in the fastag to the new no. I had raised a couple of requests and both times my request was rejected. Then I reached out to Paytm meaning to cancel my fastag, however when I explained they promptly took the documents and updated my vehicle info in the fastag.

I came to know that as the fastag is linked to the vehicle no. then whenever sensor does not read the fastag the operators have an method of entering the vehicle no and the toll would be deducted. Till date my ticket for refund of 30 rs is still open. But here a simple error while entering the vehicle details would deduct the toll from the other car (if the same is enabled for fastag).

Well glad to inform that I have received Rs 30 refund from Paytm. It took a month but they did finally refunded the amount to my wallet. I did not raise any request with NHAI.

This is very common with FastTag also.

This digitization transition will have these hiccups!!

Happened to me. Not once, but twice.
Car is sitting at home in Maharashtra, and fastag balance getting deducted for some toll in Bihar. Raised the complaint, got a standard reply - "We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We are looking into the matter."

Got no refund till date. It's been 2.5 years now. Fortunately it did not happen again. But definitely makes me lose sleep over the loops in digitization. :eek:

Try changing your Fastag provider to a different one. For example, if you have a Paytm Fastag, try switching to an ICICI Fastag.

This happened to me today. :Frustrati

I got a SMS from Airtel Bank that INR 60 has been deducted for crossing the Electronics City elevated toll road at 00:07 AM on 18th April 2023.

My car has not even moved from it's parking spot for over a week now.

I immediately called up the Airtel Fastag helpdesk number and raised a complaint.

Resolution time is apparently 15 working days - that is almost a calendar month.

The help desk guy says this might have happened due to a 'technical issue'

Or, the toll booth guys are randomly entering vehicle numbers and pocketing the cash?


In any case, looks like it's the sign that I should switch from Airtel to some bank tag. (Haven't heard good things about Paytm tags).

The Airtel tag is quite slow in almost all toll plazas. I have to literally move back and forth till it gets read; or they scan it manually.

It is stuck to the windshield as per instructions, but I invariably hold up traffic behind me in most tolls.

I did notice that the metallic antennae on the Airtel tags are smaller than the ones on other tags. Maybe that's the reason for the slow reads.

Similar happened on HDFC tag, twice on the same day. No reply from HDFC on Email and I don't have the energy to call them. Will get rid of the tag as soon as the balance is done.

Issues seem to be from the regulator, no punishment or fines to such institutions for lapses. So they can continue to take monies on one or the other excuse probably.

For the 2022 calendar year, there were a little more than 72 lakh chargebacks - of which, more than 46 lakh chargebacks were accepted - i.e. refund processed(?)

Happened with me too today. I did an Agra-Gurgaon round trip and had to cross multiple tolls. All deductions were instantaneously done and notified. I returned home at 6:30pm and then at 9:36pm got a message about 80Rs being deducted at Kherki Daula toll plaza which I did not even cross during the day, forget at 9:36 in the night. I guess it is a manual entry error by an operator

Raised a complaint with ICICI and have been told it will take 25 days to resolve this. Other than this I really like the ICICI fasttag. It's linked to my account so gets auto recharged when balance falls below 500, gets read at all toll plazas and notifications are real time.

This Sunday, I took the nice road from Tumkur road to Bannerghatta Road. Around 15-20 minutes after I exited Bannerghatta road, received an SMS for the charges which was correct. But on Monday, got another SMS for the toll charges from Bannerghatta Road to Hosur road (which is the next toll) which I never took. The timing on the second SMS is approximately 15-20 mins after I exited Bannerghatta Road. Travel time from Bannerghatta road to Hosur road nice toll is around 15-20 mins.

I have raised it with ICICI Bank for the refund.

I am a bit suspicious if there is a scam going here as this doesn't feel like technical issue.

Whosoever is being charged erroneously, should find out why? There is a possibility that someone is using your number plate!

Saw this in today’s newspaper TOI

WOW, I am not the first one here. Got an SMS from my Kotak Fastag for a deduction of 105 with the below message:

Kotak FASTag:Rs.105.00 paid for Toll at Chittampat for XXXXXXXX on 01-09-2023@08:16 .Bal.904.00.Log on https://kotakfastag.in for disputes.

Now I rushed down and found that my Rapid is happily parked in the garage and then I investigated my travel record to be surprised that I never visited this toll ever. Great.

Logged into Kotak Fastag account and lodged a complain where it asked me to provide transaction id and a screenshot (from their own system) and I oblighed.

A few minutes later I receive the below SMS from Kotak

Alert! As you have not uploaded RC Copy and updated Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) for Chassis Number ending with {#var#}, your Kotak NETC FASTag is in temporarily blocked state.
