Update:
I called Kotak FASTAG support and they said the account is in good standing and the SMS regarding suspension warning was a routine protocol and I just need to ignore it. I expected better as the SMS clearly says its blocked.

Regarding the wrong charge, they said I would hear from them in 2 working days. Now after going through this entire thread, I believe 2 days is reasonable if I get a resolution by that time. Upon asking why and how such things may happen and the helpdesk lady said its something they experience with other FASTAG customers as well and its due to some technical glitch. They will verify it with CCTV at the toll and issue the refund and that I dont need to worry about it.

Lets see where it goes.

just received an SMS from Kotak FASTAG with the below message:

Dear Customer, your Kotak Bank NETC FASTag complaint ID FXXXX309XXXXXXXX has been declined. Login to your FASTag Account: https://fastag.kotak.com to check the status.

I then called their customer care number 180030069090 to find out more.

Meanwhile I logged into Kotak Fastag and found the below message against the complaint:

"Rejecting Incorrect Complaint Type. kindly raise complaint under Others complaint type Complaint Sub type NETC Toll service not availed"

Now the message was self explanatory and the person on the call guided how to raise it under the right category and insisted that I share the screenshot of the SMS and not from transaction statement which I obliged. He assured that this time it would be resolved and the money would be refunded.

My complaint with ICICI for a toll charge while the vehicle was parked at home is still ongoing; getting close a calendar month now.

They had initially closed / rejected the complaint on a basis even the call center was not aware of. Called back and had it reopened.

Wait continues.

Call 1033 NHAI helpline directly. The bank will have to anyway go back to NHAI to get an answer!

I think i have posted my ordeal similar to the cases above in this forum somewhere else earlier.

I have a IDFC bank Fastag. Over the last 6-7 months I have regularly received alerts of amounts all the way up to Rs 450 being deducted (various amounts ranging from 90 to 450) at various toll plazas in UP and RJ while the vehicle has been in Bangalore. The dispute with IDFC is still underway...even when a fresh deduction takes place.

In sum I have lost over Rs 3500 and not a single penny has been returned by IDFC.

Multiple complaints with all related documentation have been submitted to the bank.

As a precaution, I am now keeping the charge in the Fastag to Rs 200-250 and recharge just a day before travel. I also learnt that if I totally discard this Fastag and try to get another one issued from another bank, that is not happening as some system shows a Fastag has already been issued by IDFC.

Just an FYI to add to this discussion.

You can do this. Firstly, you have to close your existing Fastag with IDFC. Once your existing Fastag is closed, apply for a new Fastag with your preferred company (ICICI for example). It is best to start this process when you have no scheduled trips in your calender.

Thank you. Will certainly try it. I think I had it checked when the current Fastag is active. Will take your suggestion and close it out and then apply for a fresh one. This has been a leaking tap. In fact IDFC even convinced me to open a bank account just to resolve the Fastag issue!!

Got the amount credited back yesterday.

I am facing a weird situation like some on the forum. My Fastag is being deducted to the tune of 495 and 335 as separate transaction deductions. How can a car be charged 495 on a single toll? I raised it with HDFC but the response is very poor. I sent them an email along with snapshots and emails. That was 4 days ago. Today again, I am getting repeated messages with deductions ranging from 75 to 225. This is very frustrating. The balance has been reduced from 2000 to 250. I would suggest everyone to just maintain only balance required for a trip and not beyond that. They say the resolution time now is 25 days. I have sent them 4 emails so far.

That’s very weird. We have no other options than working with NHAI for resolution. Banks are of no use. Use ‪+91*88103*31033‬ as the official NHAI WhatsApp. Also if you haven’t yet, call 1033 - NHAI helpline and register your complaint.

And yea, don’t keep more than 200 as the Fastag balance

Thank you sir. I have raised a complaint with them and shared the emails too. They have given a period of 25 days for resolution. I will keep the thread posted on the progress.

We may be going off topic, but I have been having the same problem with one of my cars too. Have had multiple deductions starting in May this year until last week at various toll booths in Southern Tamil Nadu, all when my car has been in Bombay - lost several hundred Rs so far. HDFC Bank has failed to return my money even though this has been escalated and my RM claims they are looking into it.

I also faced a couple of incorrect deductions with my paytm fastag, but they were removed after I raised tickets and followed up with them for nearly a month!

Back in September 2023, HDFC Bank deducted Rs.80 from my FASTag when the car was parked at home.

On raising a dispute through HDFC Bank's FASTag website as well as writing an email to them with my car's pictures, they sent me this:

I wrote to the Grievance Redressal email ID thrice, the last email being:

So what can one do about this blatant theft and fraud by the banks and toll plazas? Grin and bear it? Or is there a way to escalate this further?

I have a slightly different story to relate, but one equally bizarre (and I'm not sure if anyone else here has faced - and indeed related a similar tale).

So the other day I decided to download the NHAI Fastag app and install it only phone. The next thing I did, naturally, was to check the status of my FAStag since I was about to take a road trip from Calcutta to Shillong (and other parts of Meghalaya - more on that later, I hope to write a proper post about the trip, the roads, the travel in my 6 year old Baleno and our overall experience).

Lol and behold I found out that there is FAStag from IDFC First Bank issued to my car and mobile number when I'm neither a customer of the bank, never have been nor did I ever apply/buy a from FAStag them. When I called the NHAI number they told me to speak to the bank. When I spoke to the bank they first acknowledged that there was something amiss indeed but to sever the link, they wanted all the KYC documents which they didn't have to begin with. I've sent the bank multiple emails (and ultimatums in those emails as well) but the matter remains open.

Not sure how this can be closed, but absolutely clear that I'm not sharing any documents with the bank.
