[quote=Mumbaiya]You really understand both the cars only when u sit in them with a "PURE" Racer who uses the throttle like an on off Switch. The AMG is like a Shotgun whereas the M is a Snipe

That video should settle some debates.

While I prefer the M5, I have to say that the M5Board is quite biased in its opinion. The E55 is slower than the M5 but not that much slower either.

Not really. Agreed that the M5 would have to be in the optimum setting but that is really just a matter of pressing the M button. In P500S and S5/D5 you can get enough grunt to defeat probably most cars on Mumbai roads.

See both the M5 and E55 are not about who gets ahead of who in the city, even a 100bhp car can outrun them.

They are cars built specially for the enthuiast(not that all of the buyers are),to be driven around tracks like the nordschleife and also to be useable on the daily run.

The E55 is more of a comfort oriented shotgun sedan with great straignt line performance and good handling, whereas the M5 is more of a track oriented car with great performance on the track but not really easy to drive on the city roads(that is what i read).

But the new E63 is surely going to give the M5 a run for its money on and off the track.

That is completely correct BUT the major factor in the new 63 series engines is the fact that it doesn't have the phenomenal torque of the 55 engines and hence it will lose some of its charm. But for the enthusiast it is a great move towards naturally aspirated engines. The 55 engines were amazing and gave the driver a very pushed experience. Your head literally banged against the headrest when you put pedal to the metal due to the high torque from very low rpms.

But they are not discontinuing the E55.now the 55 series amg engines develop more power like in the revised SL55 where it produces 517bhp.
IMO the greatest E will be a E65.But that may never happen.

I really don't know where you got that from, but they are slowly phasing out the 55 engines. the next gen E or even as soon as the facelift E next year could have the 63 engine.

Mercedes Benz Press release on the facelifted SL
Quote:
The enhanced AMG 5.5-litre V8 supercharged engine at the heart of the SL 55AMG is equipped with a new, higher-speed supercharger compressor and a larger throttle valve to optimise the fresh-air supply. In addition, the installation of an even more efficient engine management unit has boosted the output of the AMG V8 powerplant from 368 kW/500 hp to 380 kW/517 hp, while the peak torque has been increased from 700 to 720 Nm. The new SL 55AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds (outgoing model: 4.7 seconds) and goes on to reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

That is just for the facelifted SL cause they aren't ready yet to release the new engine in the higher end models which will supposedly have close to 600-700bhp. My guess is they're waiting for the next gen S or CL to launch that. I'm sure that they are going to be discontinuing the 55 series as they have explicitly said that they will be going completely away from superchargers and into turbocharging only.

I'm assuming since this costs the same as an M5 and with the current Mercedes premiums, it would be around 95l base price.
