The 1000SEl tag is most likely to have been put on the car by the shop that did the stretch to signify that the car is double the original lenght.

A 500SEL engine can't be modified to a capacity of 10,000 C.C.

Been spotting this frequently in chinchwad.. a Ssangyong Musso. Weird lookin SUV - an Opel Astra + Lincoln Navigator front mated to previous gen X5. Looks yuk, but drives well it seems.

Interestingly, Ssangyong Musso was also sold as Mercedes Musso in some countries !

Ok so the 1000 SEL was never built by Mercedes - it was a modification done by coach builders on the W126 models -500 and 560SEL. The Transco, Bertone and Kugok cars were all called SEL.

None of the coach builders modified the engine!! So no it wasnt a 10Litre..

The cars were basically Merc with Rolls-Royce levels of Luxury - TV's, Bars, Privacy Curtains, Clarion Sound Systems.

There was the 1000SEL 12/36/44 (Maybe More) - Depending upon the number of inches it was extended by.

I have asked the question before on the forum - Are the pune car or bombay cars former HH Maharani Gayatri Devi's cars?

However ugly the Musso might be it's tail looks much, much, much better than that of the X3.

Yup, they were taken over by Samsung Motors once they went bankrupt. And the Mercedes connection was there because both this & the MB 100/140 vans (made by Ssyangyong for Mercedes & exported to India) were powered by their 2.9 litre 5-cylinder diesel power plants and there was other tech sharing too.

Spotted this Merc MPV on Pashan-NDA road. The badging read 'Viano' or something like that. Road presence of the vehicle was big enough.

Its a Merc Viano. See it regularly on mumbai - pune old highway ferrying some firangs ( most probably, germans at the Merc plant in Chikhali ).

IIRC, there's 2 more of these with Le Meridien for the guests, but they have a hotel sticker on side doors.

Thank you so much for editing the image for me techno, I dont have any utility on the Mac to do that. And I got to hear about it. The traffic is nothing short of chaotic. I saw a 6 series today as well white color with a soft top. Looked beautiful, saw some nice superbikes as well

Spotted a Toyota MPV (similar to Merc Viano) on Paud Road today morning. It wasn't having any number plates, and I could only spot toyota logo on rear door along with heavily chromed front grill. And no, it didn't look like a modded Toyota Innova.
