thanks for all the replies.

well this is one of 2 bmw models that are produced in spartanburg, south carolina, usa. only the x5 and z4 are made there.

i ordered it mid june and the car was actually produced last week of september 2007, and the car arrived indian shores mid december, so it has taken a month for custom clearance and the truck ride from chennai to delhi.

they first promised the car in october but it never came.....then they said november, then december.......its been a waiting game i've been playing!

they have given me different stories about the delay....everything from production issues in south carolina, to homologation issues in pune and logistics problems.

i am happy that my car is finally here, but that excitement which i had originally has all faded.

the owner of the dealer also told me: "if i were you i would have cancelled my order a long time ago" after thinking about this, this is actually the stupidest things he could have said. this means he has no faith in his dealership or bmw india or both!

i didn't notice anything weird about the tires. i actually wanted the 20 inch y spoke tires that are on the display x5 in the auto expo, but with 20 inch wheels the ride will be very hard, and since the tires are run flats, the ride will be even more bumpy, so i think i will stick with the 18 inch ones.

there was a platinum bronze x5 exiting the compound as i was entering. there was a monaco blue x5 with gorgeous saddle interior (that was my second choice)

space grey hides the dirt well. my drivers are lazy!

As far as a know, ALL X5's are manufactured in USA (if I remember correctly, South Carolina). This is for shipping to everywhere in the world (inc RHD for UK/India/etc...)
