They are not locally registered so technically/legally can't be driven on Indian roads. But this is India, kundanmal petrol pump owner in Mumbai drives an old roller with California plates, another Dubai plated red Bentley coupe in Bangalore too drives around without being registered in india to date. These 4 cars that I just wrote about above have stayed way beyond their carnet term, if at all they came in on carnet. My suspicion is that they came along as baggage items and could have been described (read justified as for display only if there is such a thing) and driven around on the sly = moving violation = criminal endangerment as their is no 3rd party insurance cover. Wow. I hope modes does not delete or edit my post under OT or something like that since i am responding to your very relevant query post.

Apart from the ones you mentioned there is one more such car in Ahmedabad. Its a LHD Merc SL with NY Reg Plates. I am not sure what is the maximum CARNET tenure allowed, but this car has been in the city for a while now. I had posted the pics of that car in Gujarat thread.

Even i was wondering how can one drive a LHD car and that too on non indian reg plates for such a long time.

Carnet allows for 6 months after which the IMPORTER must take the car out failing which it will treated as a case of smuggling. So effectively all these cars are smuggling cases

AFAIK, the Kundanmal Cream Rolls Royce is back in the USA, though it was here for a long time as you mentioned, havent seen the car parked there recently or been driven around in last couple of years.

Are you making that conclusion because you have not seen it parked there? Or you Know For A Fact? Strange how a car that overstayed left, more like it is in no mans land

I have seen it less than a couple of years ago so unsure if your stating on confirmed verified basis or making an assumption because its not parked there?

Purely on assumption and i fill fuel regularly there, so seen several of RK's vintage beauties parked there but the roller is missing. Nevertheless, will check with them on the actual status of the car.

There are a few other places where cars are parked, this apart from the foreground in the pump you are referringto, to reiterate I have seen it in parked position and on the road being driven by the old man several times less than a couple of years ago. The other issue is as I mentioned that the car has been here far too long for a legit exit. But alas this is India and these days anything is possible/has a price.

Will be interesting to hear what they tell you cheers

Nice comparo of the old & new wing-mirrors.

The G63's mirrors don't seem to match the car.
