Re: 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R : Shredder joins the family

Spotted you and Shredder today just before the Vakola flyover in my bike`s RVM, gave you way and you overtook me and were quickly out of sight. Shredder really sounds sweet I must say . A few mins later I see a Gixxer passing by and that also vanished out of sight pretty quick.

If that Gixxer was blue, it might have been another Team-BHPian Odeen12

Indeed was Odeen12 on his hot & loaded Gixxer. I am baby-sitting him these days.

Re: 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R : Shredder joins the family

So this is the 1st part of my lockdown shopping list-

Well locking a biker up at home is never a good idea specially when window-shopping temptations turn to Credit card bills. Made a long list of things to get done on the 10 and got the first lot of it installed yesterday. The good folks at Anzen Kawasaki spent almost a day fitting all this up on the bike for me and I am just loving the way it has all come together.

1. Samco Silicon radiator hoses -
I am sure most of you already know of Samco hoses and for those who dont its worth reading up on silicon radiator hoses. Got a set for the 10 courtesy Bikegear.in and man does it look good!
Backed the install up with a Liqui Moly radiator flush and some excellent Maxima Coolanol coolant from Motousher.
Now here’s the best part - on my way back home, got caught in some pretty bad traffic snarls and usually the bike would heat upto a 105-110 deg on the console but lo and behold, the temp gauge hardly went above 100 the whole time. Thats a LOT of improvement in my books. People who ride Ducatis or superbikes will know what I am talking about.

2. Yoshimura Tail tidy -
I literally saw every single brand of tail tidys for the 10R until i finally decided upon the Yoshi (Evotech came a close 2nd). I just loved how the Yoshi looked on the bike and Bikegear chaps again helped get it for me thought it took almost 2 months for it to get here.
The build quality on this piece is excellent and it gives you a very tidy appearance at the back specially with the plate frame. Swapped the stock indicators with a set of KTM LED ones and the whole setup has changed the way the bike looks.
As expected, the tail tidy ensured that all the muck and slush from the tyre landed bang on my rear cowl. Cant say I dint know this was gonna happen.

3. KRT Superstock spec Clutch Springs-
I was extremely fortunate that a friend managed to hook me up with a set of clutch springs which Kawasaki ONLY makes for its factory racing teams competing in the Super-stock spec races. These springs are not available over the counter and are strictly manufactured for the factory teams. They cost a bomb, but I know the advantages of running better clutch springs as the 650 also has a set of Barnett ones.
The effect of the change is Night & Day. Trust me when I say that I cant even begin to describe how much better the bike feels with these on. I would stick my neck out and say that If you arent gonna track your bike then dont bother with these. I am already drooling thinking about what this change is going to do for my corner exits.

4. Custom-made Lockstop Savers -
Lockstop savers basically are knobbies that sit on your chassis ahead of the yoke. In the event of a crash, your yoke might break and this can cause the handlebars to go whack your tank in a nasty way. The Lockstop savers prevent the latter from happening.
Its a nifty little thing but ask any racing team and they’ll tell you it works. Among the branded ones I only know of R&G that make these but I got mine custom made from T-6061 grade aluminium thanks to a friend’s CNC machine. He was gracious enough to give me a pair of titanium bolts to mount these with.
The downside - you lose a tiny bit of turning radius with these but no issues with locking the handlebar with the key etc.

Leaving you with some pictures from the day.

Have some more stuff in-coming and part 2 and part 3 of Lockdown Shopping shall duly come your way soon.

Stay safe!

Re: 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R : Shredder joins the family

Part 2 of Lockdown shopping list

A bit of background - the ZX10s stock throttle travel is a bit too much for my liking and I realised this after multiple trackdays at MMRT where i conciously struggled to get to WOT between corners. The fact that at full throttle your wrist is at an abnormal angle doesnt help matters either.

Anyways, solution comes up in the form of a Quick Throttle Kit. After much research, I zeroed in on the one from Accossato Racing. Domino Racing did not make bike-specific throttle cables for the 10R and the quality of the Motion Pro was a hit or a miss.

Accossato makes beautiful bike accessories out of Italy and has quite a reputation for quality parts which go on even MotoGp bikes.

To add to the safety bit, ordered the brake lever guard from Bonamici Racing (again Italian).

A rear axle slider from Evotech Performance and new Tank Grips from EaziGrip got added to the list too. The earlier Pro model from Eazigrip did not give the grip I wanted and hence replaced them with the Evo model which has higher traction surface.

The Accossato did take some time to install properly with the right amount of play etc but nothing the good folks at Anzen Kawasaki couldnt manage well. Yet to hit the track with the setup but the feel from the throttle over my short ride home was Brilliant to say the least. I am using the mid spec Cam in the QT so can make it even more aggressive if needed.
Will truly understand its effect over the next trackday sometime in a couple of months. Overall, money well spent.

Got the Acco and Bonamici from Bikerdnadotcom and Evotech and Eazigrip from Lazyassbikers. Hit them up if you plan to pick these up.

Some really tasteful and worthwhile mods you've done there sir. Improved the bike by leaps and bounds. Hope to see more such mods in the future as well.

Re: 2016 Kawasaki ZX-10R : Shredder joins the family

The Kawa service folks checked and figured out that the timing chain on the bike was running with a bit too much slack as the cam chain tensioner was apparently not doing its job well (a known issue with the CCT design on 2016-17 bikes). Decided to not take a chance and got the timing chain and CCT replaced (revised design recommended by Kawa) and what a difference it has made. The bike is so much quieter and the engine feels superb.
Additionally, got the annual servicing also done with change of fluids, spark plugs and throttle body cleaning. Very importantly, got the fuel filter changed and I was horrified seeing the condition of the current fuel filter when it was pulled out. It was properly black (pics attached). This is what our conditions and fuel quality can do to a filter in 15k kms.
Also got the chain sprocket set changed. Stuck to the stock EK 3D chain (albeit in Black&Gold) but went +2 on the rear sprocket with Vortex sprockets. It has transformed the way the bike feels and revs. With the sprocketing and Quick Throttle the bike feels nothing like what it does in stock form. All manners of being docile are now out of the window.

Any feedback on the Samco hoses? Did they help in anyway?

Is the bike running cooler? I really need something to cool down my ride and if it is helping, will be ordering it.

Ha Ha Ha. My 10 months of lockdown has proved very very expensive too.

I totally agree. The Yoshi tail tidy just looks so classy with that black metal border plate.
I have the same on my CBR650F.

However, 2 issues I faced with this:
1) You need to slice the wires to connect the brake light. This is something that Yoshi should change.
2) The size of the plate is not compatible with our High Security Number plates. I had to loose that classy black metal border to fit a HSRP in my bike.

Your bike looks really good. Thank you for updating us with the delicious updates.
