The reality is that majority of either customers will never take the bike to a race track. With a majorly urban riding need and inline-4 fully-faired being the specs most people want the switch between the two is inevitable. Sad turth !

Re: EICMA 2018: Honda unveils the new CBR 650 'R'

It's finally here at 7.70 lakh ex-showroom Delhi

Quote:
Honda has launched the CBR650R in India and priced it at Rs 7.70 lakh. The middleweight, fully-faired motorcycle makes its way to India as a replacement to the recently discontinued CBR650F (that retailed at Rs 7.37 lakh) and has substantially more on offer. The 650R will be available at 22 Honda Wing World dealers, and one recently opened BigWing dealership in Gurugram.

The CBR650R was first revealed at EICMA 2018 and represents a rather significant evolution over the 650F. Honda also recently discounted the CBR600RR in international markets leaving a void in its middleweight, supersport segment. The CBR650R fills this void; the ‘R’ suffix denotes an increased focus on sportiness.

Powering the Honda CBR650R is a 649cc, inline, four-cylinder engine, which – mirroring other premium Honda bikes in India – has been detuned to better suit our riding conditions. The India-spec 650R produces 88.4hp at 11,500 rpm and 60.1Nm at 8,000rpm. Meanwhile, the international-spec engine produces 95hp at 12,000rpm and 64Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. The CBR650R also features a slipper clutch and Honda’s version of traction control – Honda Selectable Torque Control System (HSTC). The system also allows for traction control to be turned off, completely.

Suspension duties are handled by a 41mm Showa USD fork and a monoshock. The front brakes consist of four-piston calipers working with 310mm twin discs, while the rear brakes consists of a single-piston unit and a 240mm disc. The 650R also comes equipped with dual-channel ABS. Minor frame revisions in the form of updated pivot plates, engine hangers and seat rails are among other changes, which have resulted in a kerb weight of 210kg; 6kg less than its predecessor.

From a visual standpoint, the new bike differs significantly from the CBR650F as well. The new Honda CBR650R looks a lot like the Fireblade, the brand’s flagship supersport. Honda has equipped the new bike with Fireblade-inspired LED headlights and a new full-LCD instrument cluster. The riding position is sportier too, with further rear-set foot pegs and clip-ons that have been moved forward by 30mm.

The 2019 Honda CBR650R will be available in two colours – Grand Prix Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic. At Rs 7.70 lakh, the 650R offers more than the 650F did, with added electronics, a slightly more powerful engine and revised styling. Another key factor that makes the CBR650R a desirable motorcycle is the fact that it is the only fully-faired, middleweight, inline-four motorcycle in the country, at this price point. The closest motorcycles, in terms of competition, are the Suzuki GSX-S750 (Rs 7.46 lakh), the Kawasaki Z900 (Rs 7.70 lakh) and the Ninja 650 (Rs 5.89 lakh), all of which are very different motorcycles in terms of intent.

(All prices are ex-showroom, pan-India)

The F and the R side by side. The new one does look smaller, shorter and lower.

The difference is handlebar positioning is quite stark. Does the 'F' sport touring risers by any chance?

There have been a few delivered already from their Big Wing dealer on the dealer launch day itself. Few were delivered this week too. Bangalore awaits the bike, no test ride bike planned yet. 15 bookings already per the dealer, I wanted to check the bike and know details about loan scheme and price, but the dealer never cared to reach back on the promised date. The dealer was really good in the 650F days. Feels a bit off now. The on-road price in Bangalore is 9.5L.

What a beautiful looking machine!

However, they should have retained the Red colour on the fairing above the headlamp section. It would've looked even better. If the black/white strips are stickering and not paint, removing it would do wonders to the way it looks!

I love the Red shade on this Honda - understated and not in-the-face, yet strikingly attractive!

Somehow they look from completely different species! Could have co-existed to me but they can't. Maybe Honda has some other plans.

Re: EICMA 2018: Honda unveils the new CBR 650 'R'

I saw the CBR650R outside Big Wing Honda showroom in Gurgaon yesterday, what a gorgeous looking motorcycle !

I am planning to take time out tomorrow and pay the Big Wing dealership a visit, it's just a 5 min walk down from my home so the itch to check out the 650R is pretty high. I hope they are providing test rides too !

Nope, handlebar is stock. Probably looks that way in this picture due to the relatively lower stance of the R.

I wish Honda continued with the touring friendly approach, but alas. Now, there's no option this side of the N1K for anybody looking for a fully faired, inline 4, comfortable sport tourer. One would either have to settle with a naked Benelli or with a fully faired twin cylinder Kawa.

Re: EICMA 2018: Honda unveils the new CBR 650 'R'

I got a chance to take the CBR650R for a longish test ride from the Honda Big Wing dealership in Gurgaon last evening.

First impressions are, it is a seriously beautiful motorcycle and for 8.7 L onroad, it's pretty good value specially considering that the older 650F itself was 8.3 L onroad. The 650R feels way superior and far more fun to ride than the 650F. USD forks, slipper clutch, Radial mounted brake calipers, traction control, Twin led lights, Led Turn signals, Tank mounted key switch, Digital dash with all the info - it ticks all the right boxes.

The jewel in the package is the smooth inline-4 motor that feels supremely refined. The test-ride 650R had Two Brothers Racing Slip-ons which actually made it for a brilliant aural experience. The 650R feels quite nimble in traffic, the mid-range is healthy and the riding position, although a bit committed, feels fantastic !

It is an easy to ride motorcycle, the after sales part is a reasonable affair and at 8.7 L OTR Gurgaon, it feels good value too. Also the new red paintshade is very striking, I personally feel this thing looks achingly beautiful in red !

Here are a few clicks of the motorcycle -

Re: EICMA 2018: Honda unveils the new CBR 650 'R'

Spoke to Venetian Honda one of Honda's big bike outlets in Mumbai regarding the CBR 650R. I have taken a liking to this motorcycle so wanted to check if they have one on display.
Per the Sales Advisor the allotted 150 bikes have already been sold out. They are not clear when the next lot will come in. However, there is a chance there might be on cancellation on a red 650R but he will know only towards the end of the month.

Does anyone on the forum own this bike? There are hardly any reviews on this bike from a Indian perspective on YouTube too. Most of the Vlogs are from the same dealership as //M.

There's a YouTuber called 'Strell' who has recently picked up the R from Bangalore. From what I've seen, usually his thoughts are balanced and well articulated.
