CD, this video from 44 teeth provides excellent details on the different litre class motorcycles (plus the ZX6R) and how they stack up with standard test conditions - same track and same tires. There is a lot of noteworthy feedback on all the bikes from two very seasoned and talented riders.

Re: 2019 BMW S 1000 RR launched at Rs. 18.50 lakh

The top of the line Pro M Sport version of the new S1000RR is on display in the BMW Cochin showroom for a couple of weeks. They had sent out SMSes and even called to invite for the showcase event yesterday.

The previous generation bike was rather disliked for its asymmetric headlight design but this new design is a big departure from that but it looks a little too de rigueur to me. What hasnt changed though is that typically brilliant Teutonic build quality. This bike has quality written all over it. The new TFT dash is amazing and the rotary control on the left side handlebar is a quite brilliant and intuitive. The integrated brake and indicators at the rear are a new design element but I dont know how visible it will be in reality. If I had to nitpick, the exhaust on the top spec Pro M Sport looks a little bland and the weld marks on the overall exhaust are the only sore bits visually. The BMW paint scheme stickers are well, visibly stickers as well.

So far BMW Cochin has delivered one bike already in North Kerala and have 6 bookings for the new generation S1000RR. Test rides are expected to start by around February as BMW is focussing on clearing the big backlog of orders first before catering to new buyers who want to test ride and then buy. Rs 23 lakhs on road for the base model is a fair price indeed considering the packed feature list.

I've test ridden the previous generation S1000RR and it was a beauty. Easily manageable in Indian city conditions, it was a breeze to ride and you didnt have to worry about the near 200 HP that was at your service. From all ride reports so far, this new one has taken it forward without question. If you are in the market for a litre class motorcycle, you are doing yourself a disservice if you dont consider the new BMW S1000RR before you put down your hard earned money.

Congratulations Rohan! A perfect upgrade from an in-line 3 naked beast to a full fledged in-line 4 supersports. This 2022 shade is looking killer.
Happy kilometres to you.

Re: 2019 BMW S 1000 RR launched at Rs. 18.50 lakh

And Layla is home!!

Was able to complete all formalities and take delivery on Monday evening. Have only ridden about 50km so far so will wait to ride a little bit more before penning down some initial impressions.

The only thing I would say is that this thing screams quality and feels so so special - which was my foremost requirement for buying a new bike.

Here is a pic from the delivery evening. A special thanks to Rachit for pushing me to get this and then being there with me for the delivery!

The only accessory I have installed right now are these absolutely gorgeous and delicious Lightech frame sliders. The axle protectors and radiator guard are on order with BMW and should be installed soon.

Re: 2019 BMW S 1000 RR launched at Rs. 18.50 lakh

Hello, Rohan.

Congratulations on having acquired this beast of a motorcycle!

This colour scheme looks much better than the white/red/blue, the full back and the gray. Lovely choice.

Waiting to hear (read through) first impressions.

Ride safe!

Re: 2019 BMW S 1000 RR launched at Rs. 18.50 lakh

So the rains in Delhi stopped on Sunday and I was finally able to take the bike out and ride enough to have an initial riding impression of the bike. As of this impressions, I have ridden about 100kms.

- The engine is absolute butter smooooth (ala Carlos singing Smooth Operator)
- The brakes on this are absolutely phenomenal. I am coming from a very very good setup on my RS (Brembo M50s) to the BMW branded ones and my god this can shed speed FAST. The feedback is absolutely spot on and you really have to experience it to believe it.
- The suspension on the standard model (non electronic) is set up beautifully from the factory and it already feels like it is tailored to my needs.
- The ride quality is indeed sublime and it shows on how the bike behaved on some of the broken side roads I had to take.
- The power delivery is very very linear and you get used to it very quickly
- The shift cam works and how! There is torque available at the low rpm and early mid range too. MSN said that this rides like a Hayabusa in that rpm range and it is absolutely true. I did not expect it to, but it does!
- The quickshifter and auto blipper work brilliantly and allow you to come down to the 1st gear as well while downshifting at lower speeds.
- 100kmph in 6th gear was at a little shy of 4000rpm and cruising at 120 is a very very relaxed affair. I would not be able to comment on out right acceleration as I am keeping it below 7000rpm right now.
- The riding posture is remarkably comfortable. The seat is wide and has plenty of space to move around. For those familiar with Delhi traffic, I got her home last Monday at 6pm from Naraina to Noida with no pain in my wrists and shoulders.
- The paint finish and quality of parts is absolutely top notch. This is a premium product all around and it shows. There are no compromises anywhere on quality.
- The stock exhaust is perfect. It is muted at low speeds and has pops and bangs from the factory! Given the price of after market systems for this, Layla will stay stock.
- The display is brilliant and no matter from which angle you view, its crystal clear. Yet to fully explore the functionality and will update in due time.
- A power to weight ratio that is better than 1:1 The fully wet weight is 197kg and stock power is 207hp. For perspective, as an upgrade over my 765RS, a 235cc upgrade gives me 85bhp more, 40nm more torque with just 10kg of additional weight! and everyone agrees that the RS is a light bike so you can only imagine how light, agile and nimble this is!
- and most importantly, it fulfilled the biggest criteria that I had while looking for an upgrade- it makes me feel very very special! This is an upgrade in every single sense for me.
- No need for a tail tidy ever. The tail with those integrated stop light and blinkers are sexy as hell.

There are some cons too!
- The clutch is taking some time for me to get used to. It was lighter on the RS
- The headlights are just about adequate. Could have been brighter for sure.
- Some factory accessories are EXPENSIVE!! Heated grips are 80k, PRO riding modes additional 30k. Heated grips, pro riding modes and the TPMS should have been standard on the base model given the price point.

I will keep adding to this thread if I am unable to create a new one specifically for the bike.

Since the bike and i were both stuck, made a short cold start video.

And some pictures from the only ride so far

Hearty Congratulations brother!! I cannot thank you enough for bringing this to the family. To be honest, for me, nothing else would have done for you.

This bike is a legend and I have always wanted it to become a member of our family. The level of engineering, packaging, quality, ability and user experience that BMW has baked into this is 2nd to none.

When this bike was launched it got mixed reactions on how it looked. Honestly it has grown on me. In the flesh this bike looks so aggressive and yet so proportionate and purposeful. Plus the quality, fit and finish is immaculate.

Wishing you thousands of happy miles on her with R1 as a company of course!!

CHEERS!!

Hahaha! In all the excitement, I have not clicked a single pic. I am hoping you will kindly do that for me once we ride the bikes over the weekend!

Thanks for the update Rohan, loved reading your insights.

You did mention how comfortable the riding position is in Delhi traffic, however, curious to know how different the riding position feels compared to your RS and how much difference the riding position makes in the handling, turning radius and overall riding experience to your RS. Mainly let’s say the difference in going from a naked to a faired bike with a more aggressive position with respect to the handlebar and foot pegs. How does the change affect the riding experience for you, quite an easy adaptation or ?

Thank you and ride safe.

Cheers

Oh it feels completely different. Its far far more aggressive and committed than the RS. The riding experience is completely different as well due to the riding position and the nature of power delivery. I will take some time getting used to it to be at the same level as I was with the RS. Just a small illustration of this is U-turns. While they were a breeze on the RS, on the S1000, I need to mind my throttle input and wrist position. But it was not a sudden departure as I have been riding these aggressive 1000cc superbikes on and off thanks to my beloved friends.

The biggest change is the sense of speed due to the windblast and for that I need to re-calibrate my brain and my right wrist.

Looking good!

I remember it was back in 2011 or 12 when a rider got this to one of our rides. I had read about it and knew it blew the liter class away but those asymmetrical headlights were nothing that anyone had ever seen on a road going superbike. Very distinct.
The story goes, with asymmetrical headlights, designers could save weight by using a smaller projector beam, however with the new lighter LED's becoming mainstream, that advantage is now gone hence the symmetry.

Anyhow, I was on my Gen 1 Hayabusa and riding parallel to the 1000rr and we both gunned it. I did take the initial lead due to the sea of torque the 1299 produced but then I saw the BMW pulling in and just went past me despite me going WOT. I am not going to say what speed he overtook me but there was nothing I could do , I was practically redlining in 5th.
That's when I realised how fast and sharp the new breed of 1000cc bikes had become.

I took the BMW for a ride and found it clinical, without drama and soul with mind numbing acceleration, handling and top end. The electronics package was also phenomenal for the time. It was virtually crash proof. And the easiest bike to go very fast on.

This new one is better in every which way. Have a great time with it. Rise far, rise safe!

No agenda, nothing to add to this thread; except this brutal acceleration video of an S1000RR with a slip-on. Check out that 80-200kph move, that is just nuts! Enjoy!
