Re: My Suzuki Hayabusa aka Bluebird S12

Last Sunday did a city ride with the boys after completing the major service on the Busa. I was planning to do a proper 200+ km ride but the gang had planned a city ride and I decided to tag along and verify again everything is working as intended before I do a longer ride.

We decided to meet up at Santacruz just outside the international airport and head towards South Mumbai after that. The plan was to go to Cafe New York to have breakfast and then checkout some vintage/classic cars at horniman circle. Post that we decided to go to Candies in Bandra to meet some other friends and then we called it a day.

Pictures from the ride..

All the led bulbs in action. Need to try it out in the night to see the actual difference.

This Parsi gentleman was reversing his well maintained Austin into his property and was just admiring it. We struck off a brief conversation and he shared that he used to work in a senior capacity in Air India and that he is 90 years old now and so is his Austin. He bought it used from the previous owner who was based in Pune and the car has been with him for the past 50 years now.

Re: My Suzuki Hayabusa aka Bluebird S12

During the major service we had noticed that the fuel line going from the tank to the throttle body was getting pinched when the tank was in its actual position and had damaged it. There was no leak as such but wanted to get it replaced asap and had placed an order for the part, which came in last week. So went for a spin to Bandstand in Bandra today morning and on the way back went to Suzuki to get it replaced which was a 10 min job.

Its a very small pipe the quality and finish feels phenomenal. Unlike the fuel pipes which are fitted on two strokes and other smaller capacity bikes the rubber is really hard and shaped to fit in the tight space under the tank.

Re: My Suzuki Hayabusa aka Bluebird S12

Had given the bike on Sunday for a proper detailing session at OCD Detail Studio. This was the second time Sumant would work his magic on the Busa the first being back in 2017 after I had purchased the bike. However, the bike was running stock exhaust then and the left fairing had been replaced post the stone incident. So I wanted all this stuff to be properly cleaned and ceramic coated. Also, I like cleaning and polishing my vehicles myself but then there are certain areas and products which only experts can do best. So off goes the Busa for its pampering session.

The coating used was Artdeshine Nano Graphene Coating and I have to take the bike every six months for next 3 years for regular service maintenance.

Enjoy the pics…

Prep works begins with the titanium end cans being covered as the chemical used to clean some of the metal parts like chain and stuff can stain it.

Amazing update Sachin!
It never fails to amaze me how much time and effort you put into detailing your bikes. It actually looks much cleaner than a bike fresh off the showroom floor and that's epic!
One observation though, the transparent tank pad seems to be yellowing pretty aggressively, any thoughts on changing it soon?

Cheers

Just like my mother I am a cleanliness freak 😜. I enjoy cleaning and polishing my vehicles its like therapy for the mind and cardio for the body.

Doesn’t it. The amount of people looking at the bike till I reached home was phenomenal and they would have actually not believed if I told them its a 5 year old bike. Sumant did a fantastic job and I guess he put in extra effort considering its a Busa, which is his favourite motorcycle. He was telling me his son remembered seeing the bike when I had given it at the old workshop in 2017.

Yes, that’s becoming a eyesore but I am having a battle with my mind on what to do as I went for a clear one initially as I didn’t want to change the look of the tank but then this yellowing was expected over time. Sumant said he could take it off but I didn’t have a replacement so will attend it in December when it goes for its first six month service.

He did work on it to improve as much as he could.

Re: My Suzuki Hayabusa aka Bluebird S12

With monsoons over the Busa has had a few outings but no proper ride to stretch its legs and the main reason has been the never ending construction work in and around Mumbai which has just created too much traffic and dusty conditions all over.

So, in the past few days I have got some basic maintenance work done especially changing the clutch and brake oils, which will be done on an annual basis now after changing over to the Brembo MC and braided lines last year. Also, it was time to take the Busa to OCD Detailing for its first six month maintenance service and Sumant had called in November to fix a date and time and I booked my slot for today.

The bike was behaving normally on my way to OCD but when I was closer to his workshop I switched off the bike at a signal and it refused to crank when I tried after a minute or so. I tried turning the key off and then on but no luck. I was in the right most lane and i pushed the bike a little away for the traffic behind me to move and tried again but the battery behaved as it had no juice to fire up the engine. Now, I moved the bike to the opposite side of the road to brainstorm what to do. I took the the key out and waited for a few minutes and put it back in and still no luck. Just as I was loosing hope of starting it I just opened the throttle and tried cranking just how we do on two strokes and it just fired up with a loud rev up. I ensured the bike didn’t switch off and managed to reach Sumant’s place and told him what had happened. I thought maybe the battery cable was loose as the clock on the dashboard had reset which happens when you take off the battery. So, we opened the seat to check for a loose cable and everything felt alright and tried starting the bike again but it would not crank at all. So we took it out to check on the charger and it showed that the battery was not holding charge so it had to be replaced and after a few calls Sumant got confirmation that the guys at Kwik Fix (same place where I changed my tyres) had sourced one and would send it over to his place.

So, finally it all ended well and I could ride the bike home thanks to Sumant and Kwik Fix and now my hands are itching to take the bike for a longer spin and gun the throttle

Re: My Suzuki Hayabusa aka Bluebird S12

The first ride for 2023 on Bluebird finally happened on Sunday and that too a proper 200 km ride. Some major changes happened on professional front last year and thanks to that I haven’t been able to ride my bikes as much I would have liked too. But a late night call from my friend Garner on Saturday asking if I wanted to ride on Sunday morning is the kind of push I wanted to get back on the saddle.

We started around 6:30 am and it was still quite dark and I was taking it easy and also I was not happy with the high beam throw. This is was the first time I was using the high beam after switching to the LED bulb and I will have to get it adjusted on the next service to make it illuminate the road in front better.

But once the sun was out I gradually started increasing by speed and quickly I found myself riding in the 8-9k rev range. I wanted to take it easy but two things helped me with my confidence level tremendously.

a) Brembo 19 RCS MC with Core braided lines - While the bite of the front brakes is still not as aggressive as I would like it, but the setup has definitely improved the overall feel and feedback over the stock setup. Hence, you need good brakes not only to stop faster but also to go faster.

b) Vredestein ST - Its been a year since I changed to these rubbers and the grip levels are just brilliant. Hard acceleration, hard breaking, grip when leaning into corners is all confidence inspiring and never did the tyres let up during the whole ride. I don’t ride in wet conditions so can’t comment on that.

The bike will complete 6 years in a few days and still feels like a dream sometimes and difficult to believe I actually own a Hayabusa

Beautiful pictures brother! Its hard to believe that the Busa is around 6 year old. Quite splendidly maintained there and congratulations in advance.

Its harder to believe that you are sticking with it even after so much time since nowadays most people move on quite quickly with sub 10k kms on odo or ownership of hardly an year or two.

Great to read that your experience is quite positive. Mine, on the other hand, is pretty average with Vredestein ST and I have clocked around 6K kms with them.

The rear loses grip almost always on strong acceleration. There had been couple of punctures already. Cornering support is good if acceleration is more or less linear. Any sudden change and you are up for surprise

Thank you brother for your kind words.

When I penned down this ownership thread I had mentioned I wanted to get a bike which will scare me every time I ride and something that I cannot move on from in a short period of time like I did with my Ninja 650. The Busa is a bike which is something you can never ever experience from new especially this Gen 2 avatar as it has no electronic aids to look after you (except ABS) and its only what you do with your right wrist is what keeps you alive. This is one bike along with my RX and RD’s (though i do have thoughts of sometime selling the RD’s) that will be with me till I breath my last breath and if someone in the family/friend circle can take care of them after that then I will forever indebted to them.

On the maintenance part I take care of everything in my possession both owned or non owned to keep them in always top shape. My colleagues have a laugh when they see me wiping my office laptop every-time I wind up for the day.

Well, the biggest difference is I have only done close to 1k kms in 1 year on these tyres and you’re at 6k. I guess member Krishna had the same doubt has to how the grip levels be maintained as you clock in more kms. I am mentally prepared now with the OE tyre experience to change at 7.5k mark and if it doesn’t last that long then I don’t think I will be trying my luck. On punctures I think no tyre can guarantee or avoid it.

The Busa is a torque monster and it can really put a tyre to its testing limits. I was having fun with two 10 R’s and a Ninja 100 and was gunning the bike like a mad man on corners. I didn’t see what speeds I was doing as I was so engrossed in ensuring of coming out upright out of every corner but when I did look at the speedo I was astonished to see the kmph needle pointing at a reading I cannot mention here but I was in 4th gear at 9k revs exiting a corner. Now, the only way this was possible is because I was getting the feedback from the tyres I needed to not worry about grip and the brakes which could shed speed on the drop of a hat if required.

But, ultimately, if these tyres while they cost half the price of what the premium tyres command but also last half the distance then they don’t make real sense unless you are planning to sell the bike and the premium tyre cost can’t be recovered.

My goodness, the Busa is a huge bike in itself and in comes the Goldwing making it look like a Gixxer 250 :-P well maintained! Can understand the feeling of riding after a long time.

Re: My Suzuki Hayabusa aka Bluebird S12

Hi guys,
I need some help. I am in the market for a second gen hayabusa. I came across a very good example, 2017 model, blue colour. The bike is completely stock and single owner. I really liked the bike, but there was one BIG problem in the test ride. While going wide open throttle in 2nd gear at around 3k RPM, the bike would bog down at around 6k rpm and start juddering slightly. The same happened in 3rd gear also. When using partial throttle the bike was accelerating freely till redline. What can be the problem? My guess is blocked or faulty secondary injectors as the bike has no problem in partial throttle. Any advice on what can be the problem?

Could be an issue with the fuel pump or throttle body. All injectors can’t have a problem at the same time unless there is some dirt obstructing them.

Better to ask the current owner to have it fixed and take a test ride post that to see if this is the bike you want to finalise on. All the best with your purchase.

Bluebird went in for its annual service today and no major jobs were carried except for the usual oil filter and oil change. The air filter was just cleaned and refitted along with cleaning of the front and rear the headlight I was not happy with the throw of light as I had mentioned in my earlier post and got that adjusted and had the parking LED bulbs replaced as they had burnt out and had gone dim.

The following week is going to be an interesting one and this thread will have some interesting updates till then ending this post with a few pictures

Going up in price thanks to inflation but still very affordable as per super bike standards

The check engine light was ON? If the problem persists after thoroughly cleaning the throttle body, Injectors, Plugs and fuel pump, it could be a problem with the secondary throttle valve actuator itself. They do sometimes conk off.

No, the check engine light was not on, and the FI light was also off. Given the bike for cleaning of fuel filter, injectors and throttle bodies. Let's hope this cures it...
