Re: 2021 Ducati Monster unveiled

I know looks are pretty subjective, but god, how do Ducati do it every single time- they always make the Monster better looking than the last version!

Almost every other brand has had a miss with one or two generations, Kwackers and R1 versions have looked considerably worse (read boxier) than the previous generation. Even Ferrari has had a few regressions! But the Duc Monster, always such a looker!

(Just an admiration post guys, I don't mean to trigger a serious "looks", or "this vs. that" thread!)

Well to be fair a lot of people these days call the new monster as a starving monster.

It has lost a lot of its muscular character and now it looks completely unlike it's name. Whenever I see it now I feel it looks similar to the Revolt 400.

The bike itself should be a hoot to ride given its sharper handling to the old Monster but I think it's fair to say the sharp departure from its earlier design language will polarize a lot of people.

Interesting you think that way, for me it is one of the worst looking Ducati in near recent times, no character at all. Remove that Ducati badge and try to sell it for 11 big one and let's see how many line up

Re: 2021 Ducati Monster unveiled

The Street Triple RS matches this on price, has an extra cylinder, a fully adjustable premium suspension (Ohlin's at the rear), and makes more power too!

Looks being subjective, find this design to be extremely ugly. Especially that weird shaped headlamp along with the overall silhouette of the frame, doesn't look appealing.

However as there are cons there are pros, Monster 821 owners should expect excellent quotes in the resale market.

Re: 2021 Ducati Monster unveiled

Typical Monster traits are gone and its now just any other naked bike.
Pretty controversial "update" to a timeless design in my opinion.

Re: 2021 Ducati Monster unveiled

The new Monster doesn't look monstrous enough! The distinctive Monster identity is lost. This is a very run of the mill, modern bike design.

Has to be the weirdest embargo ever! International reviews were out ages ago, price in our market has already been announced. Unless the embargo is for Ducati to peruse each journos take on the product before approving its release, I don't see the need for one.

Watched international reviews of the new Monster on YouTube. The sound of the bike (atleast on camera) resembles that of a tractor, don’t see anyone lining up even with the Ducati badge.

It is not that I do not like the Ducati brand, love the V4 platform bikes and the Multistrada range. But riding a Triple/Four cylinder naked has a charm of its own that this tractor-like-character can never match. Character is simply an illusion created by the brand to cover up deficiencies in refinement.

Asking folks to pay 15l for this motorcycle which doesn’t even have appealing looks/sound/premium suspension in 2021, when competitors have already firmly established their products in the market, is heresy.

It's literally a joke right now.

Ducati Knows it very well, no wonder my social feed is filled up with Ducati monster reviews happening in BIC, they are trying extra hard to sell this commuter looking bike as a premium bike. Trying to make this bike look cool, and don't be surprised with gleaming reviews next week which we all know, where and why they are coming from

Anyone buying a monster over the Street Triple RS would just be shooting himself in the foot, until he/she is a die hard Ducati fan, still he/she can pick better bikes from Ducati stable itself. The charm of Monster brand is lost.

Re: 2021 Ducati Monster unveiled

I did recently get to test ride the new Monster for some 30-40 kms in the city covering some choc-a-block traffic and some open toll-road stretches and below is my take on the bike out of this short trip

What I like:
1. Looks are subjective and I like how the new bike looks. Some people compare it to an MV but to me that's a good thing. From the sides and rear it still looks very Ducati.
2. Good grunt, specially the torque. The new bike runs the tried and tested 937cc twin and it makes the bike good fun in the city.
3. Good tech and electronics. The TFT display was crisp and easy to read and navigate even on the go. The lights etc are all fancy and look super premium. QS was superb and the power modes were easy to configure.
4. Felt very light and nimble. Literally felt like I was mounted on a 250cc naked. The ride quality felt good too despite non-adjustable suspension.

What I dint like:
1. The HEAT!! I know its a Ducati (and I own one too) but the rear cylinder (plonked under your backside) made life a torture in the mad city traffic that I went through. Reminded me of the Scrambler. I dont know if this was also the case with previous Monsters but considering this bike also targets the urban jungle this might be a pain for some users.
2. The bike is TINY! Very good thing for someone who is of average height and build but felt quite tight for my 6 feet frame. I wasnt uncomfortable but I just wished for more room to stretch out in the saddle.
3. I felt the bike is a bit overpriced for what it provides as a package. Maybe a lakh or so lesser would have made me feel more at peace. Hard to ignore thoroughbred competitors like the Striple RS at this price point honestly.
