If you're referring to feeling the heat from the engine, that would mean the rubber beading under the front seats has given way. If that is fixed properly, you can (well, I can) drive the Omni for hours together. I never felt it uncomfortable for long drives in the 3 1/2 years and ~42000 km that I owned one.

This is surprising - the Omni is one the easiest vehicles to drive, according to me. Reversing has always been a breeze!

Absolute tin crap on wheels. Shame on Maruti for selling it for private use. Unsafe, 20 years old- the oldest vehicle in Maruti's stables currently. No USP for private usage- has some rectangular volume for goods hauling.

NEVER can I hate an Omni, It's one of the best VFM vehicles in India with a reliable engine. And it's still one of the top sellers in India.

Very fun to drive & a nice vehicle suitable both for rural and urban areas and the new Omni is quite sexy.

Maruti could have sold more Omnis if it came with a better suspension & handling.

The only thing that I hate about Omni is it's suspension & handling......

ssl2uv108, why don't you put up your own opinions regarding the Omni? you've been pretty quiet here.

are you considering it as a car from a buyers point of view or just researching.... ?

I love it. Almost bought it, but family pressures made me buy the xeta.

I like because
  1. Cheap to buy & frugal to run
  2. Lots of space (people + luggage)
  3. Easy to drive in city

I hate because
  1. UNSAFE - at high speed [stability issues]
  2. UNSAFE - no front crumple zone
  3. UNSAFE - not recommended for highway journeys!

folks,

i really love the Omni for all its roomy & VFM positives. (only worry is the safety aspect on impact)

Whenever i have asked people about their opinion, it has provoked extreme reactions !! i have always wondered why.
thats the reason for starting this thread and knowing your views.

i think Shreeram's post is the best here-- written with feeling.
hey shreeram, i want to thank you for the reply.

the mind's your road.

It is the most exciting car to drive very different to others.
I have driven that car a lot in city and on highways.
The car is really good if driven Sanely. One cannot take tight turns in it using the racing line then obviously toppling is on the cards.
The sapce is so much, I have often done trips from Surat-Bombay in that car with 5 people, a dog, a parrot. Dog enjoys the most of the space.
Sadly had to part with Van and got a M800 now.

Its one of my top 3 Indian Vehicles and the "only" Maruti vehicle I ever liked. But for Fun, it gets 10 outta 10.

I've never owned an Omni nor do I know of anyone in my inner circle own one. However there is one thing I would like peeps to know. The 'most common serious' injury that one can sustain while 'using' an Omni is: Injury to the Achilles tendon. I hope I dont have to remind you that the Achilles tendon is the large tissue connecting the heel bone to the calf muscle of the leg and is THE most important tissue used while walking. (Rumour has it that some famous ruler cut the Achilles tendon of his unscrupulous soldiers to prevent them from walking over to the enemy camp!)

How does an Omni user injure this tendon? Sequence below:

~A happy family parks the vehicle on the left side kerb.

~The rear passenger uses the right side sliding door to FIRST place their legs outside the vehicle to lever themselves out.

~A vehicle from behind dashes against the leg of the person 'egressing' coz the driver of the vehicle did not notice the sliding door open.

Result: An injury to the Achilles tendon that requires surgery, the leg to be plaster cased and complete immobilisation for 6-8 weeks.

Omni users, please be careful and enjoy your vehicle. Better safe than sorry!
