Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

Hi All

I know this will be a boring topic and may have already been answered previously.

I currently own a pre worshipped Honda JAZZ 2016 v AT and aspires to upgrade to a 7 seater SUV. I have no reason to upgrade but just that i have always liked to own an SUV.
I also own an Ertiga 2013 vxi and hence I do not want to look at XL6 or the new Ertiga. I am looking at the AT versions only for the benefit of my better half. Pre Owned routes are also fine but the price quoted for XUV 500, Hexa etc. is atrocious in Bangalore.

XUV 500 W9 AT has around 1.48 Lakhs + 50000 exchange bonus + 10000 corporate bonus ongoing currently in Bangalore While W11 AT has 2 Lakhs plus other discounts. This would make it more reasonable than going for a pre owned route. However, the dealership i got in touch with does not offer a test drive and hence not able to make the decision.

Other SUV's Considered and my thoughts
1. Tata Safari (a bit expensive in my opinion)
2. Hyundai Alcazar (Looks like Creta and doesn't have the stance of an SUV)
4. MG Hector/Hector+ (No reliability reviews and also is Chinese)
5. XL6 (not an SUV but looks the most competent VFM)

Evergreen Choice is an Innova Crysta but the price have increased drastically avoiding all the gizmos competitor models have.

Let me know your thoughts on this.
Thanks

I don't know how you missed the XUV 700 (Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs) thread which is on fire since two days ! It makes no sense at all to get the XUV500 now. Book the new XUV700 ASAP !

If you can add a vote, you can see the opinions more clearly. I'd say wait for the XUV 700, it's safer and you get the introductory pricing. All additional bling and features are also a major bonus.

If one were aiming at the base variant of the XUV500, then by all means it is still value for money with the discounts factored in, and one can go ahead with the purchase.

But since, you are looking at the top variants, as like others, I would suggest to take a leap of faith(despite the initial niggles that all the electronics might throw) and book the top most variant of XUV700 that your money could buy.

Go for 700. However if you could wait a few months, it will give you an opportunity to learn from real world reviews. Usually version 1.0 is last around of testing for any manufacturer.

re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

Do note that prices for 7 seater XUV 700 is not out yet.
However, logically, it can be expected to be slightly expensive than XUV 500 variant to variant. So, if budget wise, you are okay with the top end of XUV 500, you may not be disappointed with XUV 700.

However, do note that, the mentioned discounts for XUV 500 will not be available for XUV 700 as a newly launched product. Hence in actuals, you may be spending atleast in range of 3 lakh extra (it not more).

If I was in your position -

- Can wait and watch + can stretch budget for few additional lakhs: Will wait till 7 seater price + variant/ optional pack pricing is released, check the final price and decide if to go with XUV 700 or any other vehicle.

- If need to buy immediately + cant stretch budget - Bargain hard and get top end XUV500.

I did see the post and the unveil and hence the query. I felt XUV 700 is way more in terms of refinement and tech as compared to XUV 500

Thanks for pitching in. Hopefully the price will be decent enough if it is within the current range of Safari top end. Anything above that will be difficult to justify with the current dimensions and features as it will have to move up a segment to Endeavour and Fortuner category.

From the prices/variants announced so far, the XUV700 base (MX diesel) is cheaper than outgoing XUV500 base (W5 diesel) by a significant 1.7L; on-road price difference would be even higher. If this is any hint, Mahindra is going to launch the remaining variants of XUV700 at competitive prices. This means two things:

1. Competitors might be forced to revise/discount their prices

2. Resale value of cars would fall too, especially the outgoing XUV500

As others have suggested, pre-book the XUV and wait for a few months until it is launched. If you like the car, you can go ahead with the purchase. If you don't, you can negotiate deeper discount on a new XUV500. And you might see price drop of used cars too.

The base model of 700 is already cheaper than the outgoing 500 by a whopping 1.7L. Even discounts can't bridge this gap, not to mentioned the dated car 500 is.

re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

There was already a similar thread by someone asking for whether to go for discounted XUV500 or wait for XUV700. He bought a new XUV500, and within a week or so, XUV700 prices are announced.

Don't repeat the same story. XUV500 is now very old, new XUV700 has same dimension but everything upgraded at a better or comparable price. Don't let paltry discounts take away fun of a brand new model.

re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

Although XUV500 will be discounted, it has already taken a massive hit on its resale value after the XUV700 launch.
So, rationally speaking, it won't be a very good decision to get the XUV500 now.
But on the other hand, XUV700 with its hi-tech electronics might be prone to niggles. So that might make it tricky.

So, now, its important to have some patience. Just wait and watch.

re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

I would suggest you against the tide by going for the XUV 5OO.

Reasons:

1. XUV 5OO is an aged product and if not all then most niggles have been addressed.
A. XUV 7OO is heavy on electronics and it has always been wise to wait till Mahindra & Tata clear out all niggles and quality issues.

2. You can negotiate for higher discounts on XUV 5OO considering the pricing of XUV 7OO
B. There will be 0 discounts however the introductory pricing itself is mouth watering

3. Delivery would be immediate
C. Waiting periods may go upto next year.

4. Most Important and probably repeat of 1st, you will get a recently manufactured car with high reliability.
D. High probabilities of lemons and if you may see it as one of the testers of initial batches of XUV 7OO

5. Less resale as the new XUV 5OO would launch soon and also there is a new XUV 7OO with competent pricing. This wont matter if you get great discounts and ready to own the car for a decade.
E. Resale value is unknown. Most knowledgable buyers wont buy a pre owned initial batches of Mahindra at respectable price.

May have been answered previously .. interesting. But curious why do you say that.

anyway, I dont know if or not you are refering to this thread:
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/suvs-...0-booking.html (Am I being stupid in sticking with the outgoing XUV500 booking?)

Re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

It's like someone wanting to buy a 2011 iPhone 4S in this era of the iPhone 12 . No man, the XUV500 is too old & outdated now. The XUV700 (which I see as a majorly revamped & reworked XUV500) is far, far superior.

Please wait. Your current car is anyway just 5 years old. Would suggest buying the 2022 or 2023 build XUV700 as niggles & issues are a given with any freshly baked Mahindra, especially such an electronically complex one.

Re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

Yesterday over tea, my wife was joking that in today's times(containment zones and restrictions on travel) car is more of a means of entertainment as compared to mode of transport.

On hearing about the features provided by XUV 700, she was saying, Mahindra should put a mini projector and transform it to a complete home theater.

Re: Wait for Mahindra XUV700, or pick up the current XUV500?

I would suggest to go for XUV500 as well and bargain heavily for the top variants. There wont be any new version of XUV500 as XUV700 has replaced it. But then, XUV500 top end variants are still good and proves their worth every now and then and if you get good discounts, it shouldn't be much of brainer for me.

Mind it XUV700 on road pricing for AX variants would touch 20+ easily in Bangalore (Diesel variant) in my point of view.
