Re: Feb 2014, Turf meets Surf! 10th Anniversary Drive Report 'Beauty is like remembrance, cast from Time long past' - P.B Shelly
While the meet was called the turf meets surf drive, personally the drive was all about the winding roads through through thick forests and the sound of rustling leaves. It began with breakfast @ Kamat Upchar and relatively fast drive on Mysore road The convoy regroups at srirangpatna and heads towards the Hunsur turnoff Driving through the strip of road with green fields on both sides. Love the way the the steps flow down and contrast with the vibrant green on the rice shoots After the broken and potholed stretch between Periapatna - Sidapura the winding forest roads after the Maldare check post feel silky smooth Souped up polos and puntos are racing ahead while I try to keep up
After lunch at Ambaty greens - Virajpet, we head back into the fold of the hills and drive through some really beautiful and winding roads before catching up with Sandsun7 outside Kannur. We reach the resort at 5PM and after a quick tea, everyone is ready to hit the surf VellVector,Robimahanta, mohankv & ArunP_Terry enjoying the sunset The rides get a well deserved rest at Asokam beach resort while the junta top up on food & drink A brand new day and the beauties line up and head for the Drive in beach simshumara flooring the i10. What a splash! Damage control - everyone pitching in and trying to salvage the ruined bumper of the i10 the chaos before the photo shoot
The ride back through Thalaserry - Kuthuparmba - Nedumpoil - Mananthavady - Sultan Bathery - Gundulpet - Chamrajnagar - Bangalore was an awesome experience. Three section of this ride that I enjoyed the most 1. Mananthavady - Sultan Bathery: A group of 8 cars deviate from the main road and take the lesser know route through Panamaram - Kenchira - Benachi and reach Bathery. The steep climbs through coffee estates and the fading light made it a very memorable experience. Need to revisit Waynad and explore the lesser roads 2. Driving through Muthanga forest: Its pitch dark when the convoy heads into Muthanga. All you can see is the tail lights before you and the stretch of road between in front of your bonnet. The eerie silence on the road was made spookier by an orange moon rise that made the whole atmosphere a perfect fit for a spooky movie. I had the pleassure of driving through a small stretch all alone and it is not an experience that I will forget anytime soon! 3. Chamrajnagar - Bangalore: After a good dinner at Nijaguna Residency, the convoy hits NH 212 at 11.30 PM. With the full moon shining down on us, we floor the pedal and take off. The next 2 hours was all about the drive!! Almost zero traffic, Very good roads, curves, twists, small villages, culverts, tank bunds and grey trees lining the road. Add to this the wide eyed stares from the few men & women who were awake on the roads and even then it is but a poor mental picture of 20 odd cars driving through the night, controlled by a single thought - Home!
Have to thank Sudarsanan Sir for planning the whole thing ground up and keeping everyone together, KarthikK Mohan & Rohit - for being the point men and guiding everyone when necessary & Jayant - for communicating with everyone and making sure that things on ground were smooth. My First BHP meet is surely one I will remember for a long long time. Hoping to do more and eagerly awaiting the next planning thread. Sudarsanan sir, please count me in for the next one
