Are the charges correct?
Looks like this month is going to be a drain on my pocket as there are a couple of expenses on the Scorpio starting with the ac coil, tyre replacement. |
Hi
I just got the Cooling Coil replaced in the aftermarket. The cost of the Cooling coil varies between 5500 - 7500 in the after market. With Labour, GAS etc the cost of replacement works out to around 12,000.
Since the complete Dashboard has to be dismantled to replace the cooling coil, it is recommended you get it done at the Authorized Service Center. Third Party AC Repair shops do not have experience in removing dashboards and can cause a lot of other damage in the process. If some other part is needed, these people are unable to find it, whereas the Authorized Service Center will have all the parts and will be responsible for the complete job.
I had a nasty experience getting the Cooling Coil replaced by a AC Repair Shop. You can read in detail

My experience is the reverse.
I had the Cooling Coil cleaned - report in this thread sometime last year - at an independent AC service centre who knew his job with AC service unlike the buffoons in the M&M ASC. Yes, he AC service centre did get a few wires misplaced, but no damage done. I did the Cooling Coil service for the first time in 8 years & he did a thorough job of cleaning it up & putting it back.

Thanks Styler. Guess there is not much of a difference between the ASC and third party service centre. Going to pick up the Scorpio today.

AFAIK, there must two horns where one is low tone and the other one is high tone. Which company is it BTW?
Check the bill you have and try to verify the part number with their parts catalogue or post that part number here so other members can help you out.
Anurag. |
Hi Anurag,
Thanks for the reply. There are two horns mentioned in the bill:
Part no 1306AA0050N Description Horn Assy High Tone _FC4
Part No 1306AA0060N Description Horn Assy Low Tone _FC4
How do I find the parts catalogue? The company name isn't mentioned.

Company name can be found on the horn itself. :)
Ask your sales advisor or the place where you get spares. They should help you out.
If the bill mentions low tone and high tone then the horn is fine. If only one of them was installed, the sound should have been the problem.
Other owners please check the bill and see if the part numbers match for the horn that come from factory.
Anurag.
Hi,
I called All the Mahindra Authorized workshops in Delhi for my AC Knob panel (Old type with wires) and all of them tell me that it is no longer available, and they cannot get it even on order with advance payment.
I can understand that it is not a viable business for Mahindra to supply spares for older models to their Authorized service centers. But I do think they should help the customers source the spares not available from their Service Centers.
They could appoint a few dealers across India who sell spare parts of older models or else they should point us to the OEM vendors of parts not supplied by Mahindra.
I think that would be a good gesture on part of M&M. I will be changing my Old Scorpio for a new SUV in the next 1-2 years, but with the kind of attitude of Mahindra in providing support for older vehicles, I am never going to buy another Mahindra Vehicle again.
My other vehicle is a Toyota, and you will be able to find spares for even a 20 year old Toyota which was not even manufactured in India. Lot of dealers stock original and Korean made spares for all Toyota Models.
I hope somebody from Mahindra reads this and takes this seriously.

Let me add my few sound bytes:
I have a 2005 model Scorpio - one of the best cars I have ever driven in, but:
- M&M ASCs try their level best to mess up, as though they are monkeys
- M&M appears to have a policy of starving older models of spare parts.
I stopped going to the M&M ASCs because of poor workmanship, inability to supply parts for my Scorpio & plain cheating. I have discussed many of these aspects many times before.
Very little improvement can be expected because this appears to in line with M&M's corporate policy. They appear to want their loyal customers to buy their latest vehicles & not maintain their old but gold vehicles.
For my part, I get used parts of Scorpios easily in the Bombay region, and at much cheaper costs. So regardless of how bad M&M is, my Scorpio runs as strong as ever. Sad to say - great product, bad company. Sometimes I wonder if it is the same company which made this car or some other which is providing after-sales service. And no company can run on goodwill of customers happy with the Boss's action on receiving your anguished tweet on Twitter...:Frustrati
Dear hvkumar and anupmathur, Thanks for your advice.
I got the car checked by a local mechanic, he removed the thermostat valve case and noted that there was no valve in place, and also he showed be that the coolant flow throung radiator was fine so there is no possibility of overheat. So since it is just a faulty indication, I can drive with peace of mind. (hopefully)

I would check if the temperature gauge is malfunctioning & have it changed just to be sure. . |

It would be worth testing the coolant temperature sensor.
All you need is an electric kettle with water |
That is a very interesting DIY.

Suspension overhaul? If it is only rubber components, including tie rod ends, I think cost should be <Rs 15K. Add 5K extra if you have to change the engine & gear box foundation bushes.
I had got a Complete Front Suspension job done on my Scorpio with all bushes, rubber parts, ball joints, and tie rod ends replaced. It cost me around 13K about 4 years ago.

I got a second opinion at Mahindra First Choice Service, as per them the following need to be changed:
1. Tie rod end (Rs. 100)
2. Link Rod Set (Rs. 860.00)
3. Upper Ball Joint (Rs. 650)
4. Upper Ball Joint (Rs. 850)
Labour Appx. Rs 1400.00.
But he mentioned a caveat that once they open up the suspension they might be able to tell what else might be required.
I was going through another thread and a BHPIAN got his Scorpio's suspension overhauled with the following replacements, any chance that I can know the prices of the below parts:
1. Front suspension Bush kit
2. Upper & Lower Ball joint kit
3. Steering Ball joint (2 Nos.)
4. Tie-rod end set
5. Rear Jumping-rod Bush kit
5. Link Rod (2 Nos.)

Suspension overhaul is lot more than that.
Shock absorber bushes, Upper Arm/ Lower Arm bushes, Stabiliser Bar bushes, Engine/ Gear Box foundations, etc

That's what I meant by 2nd opinion, as per MFC the Shock Absorber and other bushes are fine and there are no engine or gear box vibrations.
Dear Friends,
My SLX 2008 model has crossed 1,00,000 km.For some time now, there is a screeching / squeaking noise when AC is turned on . This is only for a short while, after which it subsides. This is always the case when starting after parking for a few hours.
Mahindra service says it is the Compressor pulley bearing, for which the total shaft assembly has to be replaced.
Anybody who has had this problem, and tackled it successfully ?
Rgds,
Venu
