Related to the turbo vacuum modulator malfunctioning. Is the car running heavy / smoking from the tailpipe? Or does the car feel as if it's suddenly developed surplus power?

The car is running perfectly fine, no excess smoke or heaviness, got the PUC done couple of days back (22%). The driving is perfectly normal (at least I am not able to find any difference)

No competent garage close by I think I will have to be at the mercy of the A.S.S., so far I have been avoiding it. Mahindra First Choice was not able to find the issue except scan the error and delete it thereby switching off the light. It came on again within the first Km. of coming out of the garage.

Will seek an appointment with the A.S.S. over the weekend and hope for the best.

Not having a good FNG is an issue, especially with a bad ASC around.

Can you drive to Pune? I can hook you up with someone knowledgeable there if needed.:thumbs up

Difficult to travel out of Mumbai at the moment, let me see If I can plan an official trip and drop the car in the morning. I will PM you if and when I am able to plan.

Who? Now that my extended warranty is over, I'm looking for a good Scorpio FNG in Pune.

The Speedometer and Odometer konked off yesterday after the car hit a deep pothole in the dark. Any ideas if it is the wire or the console is gone.

The list of issues is increasing by day, till now the following need attention during the next visit to A.S.S. :

1. Speedometer and Odometer not working
2. Engine check Light
3. AC Blower not working (resister burnt, got it checked at a local garage, they did not have a replacement)
4. Rear washer not working (can anyone tell where the motor for the rear washer is located, it is not in the rear door panel for sure as the pipe goes towards the forward of the cabin
5.Drivers Window Winder - Got it replaced at the local garage (Rs. 950+300 labour)

While the Mahindra First Choice did the cursory inspection of the car they had recommended the following:

1. Engine oil change (high carbon deposit in oil)
2. Brakes Cleaning
3. Clutch Play adjust

Located right on the washer fluid bottle along with the motor for the front screen wash.
Both motors are mounted side by side toward the lower part of the bottle.

What is the average life of suspension system of scorpio? is it a periodical change? My scorpio has done 1,15,000 kms and still running smooth. When i had a casual chat with a local mechanic, he suggested to change the vehicle around 1,50,000 kms since thats the time you can expect changes in suspension system.

Thanks a lot Anup, will try a DIY on Sunday to see if I can fix / replace it. It caused a lot of grief during the monsoons but I just could not get time to have it looked into.

Simple. The sensor connected to gear box must have come off. Any mechanic can fix it,


What is that? Adjusting Pedal springs? Never heard of any adjustments in clutch...

Every 50-60,000 kms, depending on wear and age, the suspension components need change - tie rod ends, bushes, link rods, etc. There is nothing like a one-time change. If you have leaf springs, do the leaf overhaul once very 40-50,000 kms depending on whether the vehicle "sits down" or not.

Seems that the clutch is not getting engaged unless floored, and causing sound while changing gears at times.

I have also been recommended tie front rod ends, bushes, and link rods, change thanks to the non existent roads in Navi Mumbai, the car has run less than 40K Kms.

Here is a 'home remedy' to check if your tie rod ends really are past their prime
1) Engine should NOT be running and steering should be centred
2) Slightly work the steering wheel in both directions. There should be NO play
3) If you encounter play then pop the hood and inspect the steering linkage (a black rod having a rubber link in between)
4) If the play is NOT because of this rod's rubber having worn away then your tie rod ends are bad
5) However if the play is because of the steering linkage rod's rubber being bad then use your hand to work the steering linkage beyond the rubber bush. There should be NO play here

Hi Anup, can you help me with the location of the bottle also. I can see a pipe going from the filler head to the side fenders and disappearing.

The bottle is inside the fender cavity. The flexible pipe where you fill the water shall lead you to it.
If it is just a motor problem then you can try this remedy. Go to any of the local auto spare part stores and just purchase the motor. It's a fairly cheap component. A couple of hundred bucks. The motors are pretty universal and have only two variants. One with a thin suction and one with a thick rubber lined one. The thin suction motors were used in old scorpio models and have been phased out. Get the thick suction type, it has a rubber bush around it's suction to eliminate minor differences in size.
Now for the replacement, it's a simple 'click in place' job. Yank out the old motor after disconnecting the electricity and delivery pipe. Push in the new motor in it's place and make the connections.

If you go to any of the mechs and they suggest to you to change the whole bottle or else if they say that the whole set has to be purchased, then you know what to do. :)

Thanks axlerod, I should be able to handle it, thanks to your inputs. Let me open up and see if the issue is with the motor or the tubing. It would be easier if the motor is not working, rather than opening up the panels all through the car to check if the tubing is punctured or clogged.
