Hello everyone
First post on this forum which I have been visiting silently for quite some time for the Polo content.
I am in South Africa and I have a 2017 6C Cross Polo with 1.2TSI CJZD 81KW (yeah, sure, maybe some days) engine.
I've always had a weird issue since I bought this car in 2019.
I'm not sure if it is a matter of just perception or if there's actually something that needs replacing.
AC (non-auto) works fine, blows through all the vents.
However, if I take a turn it feels like the center vents stop blowing cold air.
Straighten out again and the air returns.
Has anyone had that?
Is this going to be a matter of trying to replace the air flap motor/actuator?
Or am I going so fast I am outrunning the air. :D
My 2018 Polo 1.2 MPI has done around 58,000 kms and recently started throwing up a check engine light, which used to disappear on its own after approx 2 days, then reappear after 3-4 days and the cycle went on. So I took it for a scan to an FNG and he said the Throttle Body is weak but it won't affect the performance or get me stranded anywhere. Quoted 20k for a new one, and he cleared the light. But it came on after a few days just like he predicted and now it wont go away.
Is there any other way of solving the problem? Has anyone faced this issue and found another way, maybe by cleaning the assembly and putting it back, instead of just replacing it?

Have the same car, living with the symbol for the last 5 years, just ignore it. :D

Hi all,
I have a 2021 Polo 1.0 TSI MT. It’s nearing the end of its warranty period and I was exploring good FNG options in Mumbai.
Any recommendations?

I would suggest get the warranty extended, parts are pretty expensive so take the maximum warranty which is there.

The warranty is costing me close to 29k (4+2 years) at the moment. Since it’s a manual transmission, there’s no stress of the transmission going kaput. The occasional failures I’m assuming would be the abs sensors and rest do not get covered under warranty. So I’m not too sure if close to 15k/year would make financial stress. What are your thoughts or experiences on this? Any part that is prone to failure which could offset the cost?
Also, why I wanted a good FNG in handy is to get occasional upgrades like brakes and suspension done.

My friend who lives in Delhi recently got extended warranty for his polo for 22k, he told me there's some offer going on. He got it last Saturday only from Volkswagen Automark which is in Okhla Industrial area. Whether it's worth it that you have to decide, maximum extended warranty is till 7 years and things are expensive in volkswagen.
But on the other hand I have 2 Polos and both are out of warranty, one is 11 years old and the other is 8 years old and I am using them without any warranties. lol:

Firstly, you should know the parts that are prone to fail on the Polo, and the costs associated with them. Things like the steering rack (approx. 17k), ABS sensors (anything from Rs. 3,500 - 5,500), water pump, O2 sensor, etc.
The steering rack and the ABS sensors are the most common. I have changed six sensors under warranty and one steering rack. I had taken add-on warranty after 4 years and that covered the rack and one or two sensors.
I did not find it worth extending the warranty again and luckily, nothing major has gone off so far, except one ABS sensor, for which I paid approx. 5k.
FYI - My 1.2 MPI Polo is 7 years old with 60,200 kms.
So, it's entirely your decision, while taking into account how much you drive in a year.
I'd say luck also is involved, as sometimes you may take that warranty and nothing fails and you'll feel you wasted your money. And then when you don't have it, something will fail. rl: It's all part of the game.

Haha, well I couldn't bear to see it that way. I like a clean dash without warning lights. So I did a little DIY and solved the problem.
Like I mentioned earlier, I considered cleaning the Throttle Body and see if the light went away, but was worried I may break something, or it would be a complicated task. I watched the below video to understand how tricky it would be:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWQMPZTfgAg&t=125s
I went to and fro to the car to look at the part and see if it was exactly the same as what was shown on the video.
This is the Throttle Body
But in order to get there, I had to disconnect the air intake pipe and this particular clamp stood in the way. Since I did not know how to remove it, I read online and found out that these are typical VAG used one-time clamps and have to be replaced.
So I disconnected the pipe from the filter box itself, which was easy by just pressing the clamp using a water pump plier.
This is the connector that was sending the signal for the CEL.
Used a T30 Torx screw driver to remove the 4 screws and get the Throttle Body out.
Used a 3M Intake Plate and Throttle Body cleaner spray and cleaned the inside, which had some oil deposits, but I did not think of it as too much to throw up the CEL.
Also checked that the butterfly flap was functioning okay and put everything back.
The result after driving it around for 3-4 kms and restarting the car: :D
Initially, I tried to clear the error in my garage itself, by restarting the car, switching off and on the ignition several times, even disconnected the battery terminals but it wouldn't go away. So I took it out on the road and that did it.
I've driven approx. 480 kms so far and the light hasn't come back. This is a huge relief as I did not like seeing that light on, even though it did made no difference to the performance of the car according to the FNG + I saved a few bucks.

Add various plastic bits inside the car, which should be made to last its lifetime but do not (and VW may not even have supplies for older cars). AC vents are popular contenders.
For diesels, there must be a companion list. The thin that I have experienced, and my mechanic says it is a regular, is fuel injector failure, and they are
way more expensive that anything mentioned so far. Sorry, I don't remember the number, it was too painful :Shockked:. Even though my FNG sourced a reconditioned unit which was half the price and is doing fine.

Yes the vents cost about Rs. 1200 each. Got 2 replaced during my last annual service in Jan.
I didn't mention the costs associated with owning a TDI as he asked about his TSI. But the injectors cost around Rs. 25,000 each from what I've heard.:Frustrati
So I took my pre-owned 2018 GT for a formality service yesterday which is needed to maintain the extended warranty I got from Cars24. Since I have already changed all the fluids and filters, I only opted for the service inspection and an oil change.
After hearing all the horror stories on here, I was pleasantly surprised by the service. The staff was courteous and the SA understood that I was just doing this as a formality and did not push for extra services or changing out the stuff that I already had just because it was in the time/km list nor did he push for unnecessary additives and proactively fixed a slight misalignment of my cowl panel and on top of that refused my attempts to change out parts that weren't easy to find outside (I wanted to do this because I planned on never visiting the ASD again) and all of this at a price that was on par or LOWER than Maruti !!
I was shocked and quite impressed and I'm quite likely to visit them again.
Ok now comes my query and a bit of confusion. The car will be 7 years old in September. I was informed that I can get an extra year of "Add On" warranty if my car passes inspection and I make the payment before September. Basically I can get an 8th year warranty. I was under the impression that the 7th year was the last year as per the forum. I asked the SA to double check and he confirmed it with his senior and in his system.
Should I opt for it ? It costs 16xxx + GST and it seems like I will also have to change the battery to the VW branded one so I guess it will cost me around 25k.
As such the car is in perfect condition and the previous owner has really maintained the car well and got a suspension overhaul, new tyres, etc the year before selling the car. I have the accumulator upgrade kit which I'm going to install soon so that takes care of the major mechatronics failure point. Scanning at the SC and my own check via VCDS shows that the multiclutch still has a decent amount of friction material left and with my low running should still be good for 2-3 years atleast (the car has done 45k). Plus I believe it is considered a wear and tear item so it won't be covered by the warranty.
What I mean is that I do not forsee Rs 25k plus worth of warranty repairs arising in the next 1-1.5 years so I'm not sure if it makes sense.

Don’t think much about it, go for it eyes closed. At the end of the day, it’s a complex German that too with a DSG, they have a mind of their own. Think of this 16k as an insurance and buy it asap as long as it’s available. I have recently extended my warranty too for the 7th year and it was similarly priced around 17-18k.
Get the warranty, I believe multiclutch will be considered a part covered under warranty. Also, the car is 7 years old and now is the time when things start to show their age and need more TLC. VW parts are very expensive so paying a fraction of it upfront for peace of mind should be a no-brainer. I love Polo and have great memories with it.
Wish you many happy miles with the car!
Sound advice. I'll check what's covered by it and then pick it up
