Well the SA is right. If oil level is at C, it will only take in 1 litre of engine oil, as per manual. If its at B, it will take in 500 ml.

Engine oil capacity is 4.4 litre in 1.6 TDi. Don't know how come 2 litre went in earlier.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I have what looks like a cross between a crack and chip on my windscreen. It is about 10-15mm long and a mm or so wide.

Worst case... does anyone the cost of a new windscreen for a 2014 GT TDI?

I had a smashed rear screen replaced in the precious car: i think that was about 8K

There are no visible signs of any leakages...Is it common, oil level going down to level C, within 4000 kms of new fill.

Can anyone help me with the reason how the oil gets consumed?

Had mine replaced for Rs. 6556 (invoice) last year. The rates here would vary slightly being a metro city.

I had my (2015 GT TDI) windshield replaced last year. Culprit - A coconut. Attached invoice for details. Ignore charges for roof damage.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Thanks guys! That's actually a relief. I was thinking I might be looking at 16K or more.

It's actually quite nice to start over with a fresh windscreen. Had this done a couple of times in UK, where stone-caused cracks were big enough to fail annual "MOT" test. But there it is covered by insurance, and they don't even touch the NCB for glass damage.

As far as I know, insurance covers windshield damage.

Get it done from Windshield Experts. VW will charge you a bomb for the glass sealent and all the other stuff that goes into fixing the windshield.

My friend just got charged 9500 for taking the windshield out to detect a leakage then some patch up work and applying of sealant and re-fixing the screen from Automark Mumbai. So I would also highly recommend going to windshield experts.

I wonder if they will pay out for a half-inch of damage? Actually, the repairers themselves will have an idea about that. I don't have a no-claims bonus to worry about any longer, as the previous car was a flood right-off.

They have a place quite near to me too.

But mixed experiences leave me feeling that I might be happier with the dealer. Of course, dealers can screw up too, but they did a superb job of repairing and painting a door on my previous car.

The dealer, by the way, would be Sundaram Motors, Whites Rd, Chennai.

By the way, I remember that there used to be a slight mark in the glass. I now think that must have been a crack, and that the 10C-plus rise in temperature caused it to open up, with the glass crumbling at the edge.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I have now driven the car in daylight and in the dark. The thing is liveable with and not nearly as bad as one would think from outside inspection.

New windscreen is shifted from my must-have-now list to my want-sometime list. I will call at Windshield Experts and ask if they can fill it.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I have a 7 month old TSI, and though I remember reading that there is an inspection after 6 months, I wanted check if it is mandatory (as the time has now elapsed, its 7th month is getting over). I'll anyway pay a visit to the workshop sometime later this month (owing to my work schedule :( ). Hope the warranty isn't null and void if the inspection hasn't been done in time!

Also, the first service is at 15k/1 year, right? Does the firmware updation also happen during first service (to 6502)?

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Hi all,

Just checking what exactly VW does under the guise of AC cleaning. Is it the usual scam or does it involve replacing the cabin filter as shown below?

If it's the latter, how often does it need to be done?

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I think they call that specifically Pollen Filter, rather than AC cleaning.

Best to get this spelt out with the SA.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

The plastic wire/cable holding the fuel cap to the car body broke off. Anyone had similar experience? Any idea of the cost involved. I am a bit paranoid about the thought of the fuel cap being misplaced while refueling !

This service should not affect warranty, as per SA in Pune, it was added later on as people were not checking oil level in between leading to issues. Skipping a 1 Yr 15K , 2 Yr 30 K service etc will cancel your warranty.
