I dropped my Polo 1.2P for its 3rd year/45k kms servicing this morning. I dropped it at the PPS Motors workshop at Khajaguda. And, they seem to have improved a lot. I was attended in 15 mins, the SA appeared to be well aware of what he was doing and had a smiling face. And they have now made the car wash free !

Apart from the regular service, I just had one complaint. When I engage the reverse gear, the music used to go down. I recently noticed that it was not happening, not sure why. He promised to check, hope he really does.

I generally get the WA and WB outside. Few months back, I noticed that the car was pulling a bit and went to the guy who had done the WA/WB. After several attempts of fixing it, he sheepishly admitted that VW cars need a different system that he doesn't have. So this time, decided to get it done as part of the servicing.

Estimate comes to 9k. Lets see how it goes.

Hey shifu, from what I understand this feature must be enabled/tweaked through VCDS. Had you done that?

I have never had this feature or known anybody else report it on Polo/Vento without the VCDS tweak.

Am I missing something here guys?

Yes, did some 'googling' when I noticed that this feature is not working as expected, and understood that the switch for this can be accessed through VCDS.

It was probably enabled when I bought the car in 2012. I don't know how it got turned off though.

Ah that explains it buddy

I was just wondering if this was a feature available before on Polo/Vento. My guess is that you may have reset the settings to 'Default/Factory Settings' accidentally via your VCDS or some other action on your car.

One of the experts can comment here.

Was updated that the exhaust sensor was faulty and that it has been replaced. I will get the car tomorrow. However, I am having none of the SM's explanations over phone and told him I need a report on what exactly was wrong.
Meanwhile, I've escalated directly to VW India.

Update - The SA is suggesting that one of the engine mounts have gone kaput and need to be replaced. He said it generally happens because of the bad conditions of our road. I did some googling and came across this thread on the exact same issue - Polo/Vento Engine mount.

My car is Sep 2012 manufactured and the thread speaks about 2011 manufactured cars. So I am not sure if it is applicable to my car. Also, I just finished the 3 year warranty on 17th Oct. So VW won't replace it under warranty . For now I am not getting the mount replaced. Any idea if it'll cause any issue?

Btw, the SA forgot to call me yesterday after the car was ready. I was busy in the evening anyways, so didn't bother to follow up.

Noise. My 2012 car sounded like a diesel when the engine was starting, and clunked over humps in the road even at slow speed. Because of the latter, I thought it was a suspension issue, but VW diagnosed the engine-mount problem and replaced them free. The problem was there from the first year.

Even if you did not have this problem from new, I would put up a fight on this: there is no way that engine mounts should fail so quickly.

I just remembered another engine-mount story in my life, from many years ago. It was a 13-yr-old original-model Honda Civic, and the exhaust had worn out. London has many places that specialise in tyres, exhausts, etc. Like fast food, quick and reasonable price, and usually a decent warranty. I got my exhaust, entire length, replaced, and within a week it had broken at the manifold! I took it back. They told me that this had happened because of defective (13-yr-old!) engine mountings. They accepted responsibility for not having see it in the first place, and replaced the broken exhaust section free. I had to pay for the engine mounts, of course.

So, yes: general wear and tear, and possible damage, can result from faulty mounts.

I have faced the same issue with my 2013 Polo Petrol. They changed the engine mounting during first service. It was replaced under warranty.

The noise returned after about eight months. Again during 2nd service the SA said that they have to replace the engine mounting. I didn't object as it was being done under warranty.

I am surprised that the engine mountings get worn out every year. I hope it doesn't happen again this year. VW needs to seriously think about the quality of these mountings as a lot of Polo owners are facing the same issue repeatedly.

Update on my Polo Engine Check Light:-
Got my car today with the sensor replaced. Cost = 0 Rs. I am sincerely hoping that this is the last time I have to deal with this issue.

Having got a piece of my mind, the SM had the car cleaned thoroughly both inside and out along with diesel filled up.

Got my 3rd 45k service done and happy that nothing apart from the front lower arms got changed which costed 3500. Got my Tyres updated to Continental CC5 as the OEM ones clocked 46k. Pretty happy with the performance of the Tyres, very silent.

Can you please share details of Conti tyres? Size and price? My earlier experience with Continental CEC tyre was very good. I am looking forward to replace current Apollo tyres with Continental or Michelin.

I got Continental CC5 185, 60 R15, the same OEM size. I heard extremely great reviews for MC5 tyres and went for Continental. But MC5, I will need to upgrade my size, which I didn't want to. I shortlisted, Michelin XM2, Yokahoma Earth 1 and Continental CC5. Of the research I have done, felt Continental is the most VFM. I am extremely happy with the performance. They are very silent and I have done 800kms so far and a lot in wet conditions. I am not disappointed at all. I got all the 4 tyres for 17k from SLNP Pitshop in Kalyan Nagar. That was the least Quote I got after checking 5 stores. Sujin is the manager there and he helped a lot in explaining the differences in Tyres.

I just took delivery of a 1.2 petrol manual Polo and had a few questions

1) Does the MID display tell you when you need to service the car or is it a fixed interval thing? I can't find anything in the manual about this 15k/1 year service interval.

2) Is there an initial oil change after running in that occurs before the first 15k service (and will this show up on the MID)?

3) There is a "free checkup" at 7.5k according to VW. Our Polo will be used very little so the 7.5k mark will not come up for at least a year. So how does this fit in with the 15k/1 year paid service?

Apologies if these questions are very basic! A little bit unsure about service related things for the Polo. Thank you

I drive a vento 1.6 petrol, but service is the same.
No, no first month service like the other brands (honda etc.) . The first checkup is 6 months or 7500kms, whichever earlier. Nothing much is done here. Should be in and out in an hour or 2, if the service centre is competent enough. 1st proper service, is a year or 15k. Since running aint high, keep it within +-15 days of completion of a year. Oil change will happen during the 1st year service.
The MID display will remind you kilometre based for service if i remember correctly.
