Any place in Bangalore where we can get the Clay Bar? |
Jopasu has a clay bar- not sure how good that is.
Rk_sans- buy the clay bar replacement from megs, or other options like a 100 gm clay bar only. Autogeek had a BOGO deal till a few days back, was very good. ONR is a more economical and useful clay lube- problem is that it comes in a concentrate, combine and buy with people who are using them more often. Me and nirmal are getting stuff down, maybe can share the costs and give off a few things( like clay bar, detailing liquids)
^me too??
Getting low on a few supplies!!
Will definitely share the shipping and product cost of course!
btw how about trying the Magna sponge this time instead of clay?? -
Hi Tech Magna Sponge
Its re-usable even after it falls on the ground!! and general life is claimed to be more than a standard clay bar! + you can wash it and re-use it again and again!! (with clay, you come at a point where no clean surface is left!, not with this!)
Some say its really aggressive, but thats what I'm looking for!(

I do not know if it is available anywhere in bangalore. But probably we can check with the 3M outlet which has opened if he has it. If not, then we need to go thru amazon or autogeek, etc. |

I remembered seeing some clay kit on BB (collinite), just did a cross check and they do have Meg clay kit.
Limited Stock Items !
Placed an order (actual 2259 INR, Sale price 1959 INR).
Hope delivery would be as smooth as it was for Collinite.
Cheers

This was in my list of products from US to be bought by cousin (due to weight restriction only part has arrived and the second lot would only arrive after couple of months bought for 20$ in US), till then was looking in SYW and it was costing nearly 2.7k. Since BBI price was lower I went ahead and ordered it.
I agree products bought in US comes dead cheap, but couldn't wait anymore :Frustrati

That's a interesting product. But ADS site tells its out of stock.
Sohail,
Can you explain your 5 hour interior detail technique which you did. What products you used ? process ? etc.

No probs! then this'll be good alternative but expensive as hell for a clay bar replacement! :) -
Ultima Elastrofoam Paint Cleaning System
I used TW cockpit cleaner and a mother's brush on all the textured plastics.
A cockpit cleaner wipe on piano black and non textured plastics.(brushes tends to scratch the non textured plastics and the interior paints)
TW Interior1 on the fabric portions of the interior door trim.
A sable hair, soft brush(the one used for painting) for getting into the door hinges and a DP AllPurposeCleaner for the hinge areas, door edges, undersides and door jambs
Basically, APC or a car wash soap in a spray bottle can be used wherever interior trim meets the paint.
A dry sable hair brush to dust the A/C vents.
Wadding polish on the ignition key hole to make it shiny again!(its unbelievable that there are so many scratches around the keyhole!)
Next time I'll hit those scratches with a plastic polish and a rotary! lol
After full cleanup, used 303 aerospace protectant(you can use any protectant, I was just product testing!) to dress the dashboard, steering and basically everything.
Also sealed a few spots with opti-seal as I was testing that too!
The next day in the morning, I wiped down the excess protectant with a clean dry MF on all the panels and the interiors were like new! :D
I always wondered how could ppl in detail centers do interiors within 2-3 hrs!
Planning to bring some clay bar when I am planning to visit US next week. Let me know if any one here need some. Cannot bring any heavy items like cleaning liquids and DA machines!
Just finished with detailing of my taffeta white ANHC.
Guru's let me know your feedback :)
Process followed (All by hand):
0) Plain water wash.
1) Trutle Wax Platinum Series Performance Car wash.
2) Claying (meguiars clay kit).
3) Paint Sealent - Meguiars NXT TechWax2.0 (2 coats - in between curing time of 12 hours).
4) Insulator Wax - Collinite (2 coats - in between curing time of 12 hours).
Worked on each panel-by-panel and all this took me over one week.
Before continuing with between steps the was cleaned with plain water wash or sometimes just California duster.
Question to Guru's: Should I top this up with UQD ?? or it won't make any difference over insulator wax ??

Steele,
Great job. The car is stunning. Very nice.clap:
Am i right, if i say that you have left out the tail lamps and the headlamps.
Have you worked on the alloys too ? How new is your car ?
By the way, does it take a week to do be done with the detailing?

So, how's UPGP holding up? |
I am sold on the UPGP. It is definitely the best product I have used so far. And the UIGP as well. It seals the interiors leather, wood and plastics. It has been a month and it is holding up well. We had some unseasonal rains a couple of weeks back in Kolkata. I did a Signature II wax massage last week. Nice ...
I have decided to stay with the following for sometime unless something striking comes to the market .... or till I run out supplies (when I will use some of the other stuff I have in the cupboard)
1. Optimum No Rinse
2. Menzerna SIP for swirls and light scratches
3. Menzerna PO85RD for final polishing
4. Wolfgang Paintwork polish Enhancer (for Sealant/wax application without polishing)
5. Conolly Hide Care (Leather)
6. Ultima Paint Guard Plus (Sealant)
7. Ultima Interiror Guard Plus (Interior Sealant)
8. Ultima Detail Spray Plus / ONR (QD)
9. Pinnacle Signature II Wax
10. 3M Glass Cleaner
11. P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner/Daytona Speedmaster Brush
12. Collinite 845 for alloys and windows
12. ArmorAll Extreme Tire shine Gel
and my good ol' B&D car vac for the carpet.

Just one word SUPERB! Whenever i visit the thread i get complex seeing all the gleaming beauties. I for one has not even waxed the car for the last 6 months! Bad bad me!
nandans2005, Jaggu, thank you.
BTW Please note all these detailing was done by hand & muscle. I don't have Polishers or DA's to work on fast.

Am i right, if i say that you have left out the tail lamps and the headlamps. Why do you say so?? Please point me to the deficiencies you noted if any. Well for headlamps and tail lamps they were thoroughly cleaned during different wash as noted earlier. Then during Collinite-845 session I apply some to get rid of residual Collinite from the applicator sponge. The advantage is nothing sticks to your headlamps, it works good I experienced this during monsoon.
Have you worked on the alloys too ? How new is your car ? Yes, I got a pressure wash done before i started with detailing. Then during (Trutle Wax Platinum Series Performance) Car wash step they were thoroughly brush cleaned inside out. This step left a thin protective layer of wax. Then applied 2 layers Colloinite after curing. Now the alloys are spick and span as nothing stiks to them. They can be easly cleaned now even with splashing water or mere California duster is enough. My ANHC VMT is exactly 6 months old & clocked 10.7K kms.
By the way, does it take a week to do be done with the detailing? Well, I worked on this like 1 or 2 hours a day, wasn't possible to work everyday, compensated by some extra time on Sundays. The steps that were performed and in between curing time involved resulted in a one weeks period. |
My observations from White: Its very difficult to obtain & catch the same gloss on whites vs. on dark colours. You can notice the gloss on grille in 2nd pic vs. the white.
The second problem is catching the result in camera. The autofocus go berserk while focusing on white, I had to shoot with manual focus. Its very difficult to catch the reflections on white, still managed to some extent.
The pics in my opinion only expresses 75-80% of impact than what I see with eyes. In physical the car gloss-shine is much better than waht it appears in pics.
Lastly, Question to Guru's(Nirmal, MKH, Sohail, others if I missed someone): Should I top this up with UQD ?? or it won't make any difference over insulator wax ??
