Where did you get the 75w85. Its pretty rare to find even 75w90. Kindly share the purchase details for the oil too.

Thanks sagar for the links as i could not find this grade oil from any known companies on amazon or Flipkart. I am ordering 2 boxes straight away as i had a great experience using petronas synthetic oil in my bike. This is GL4+ and car manual mentions GL4. Thats fine right?

Yes, GL4+ works well with Hyundai Gear boxes even though they specify GL4 in the manual. Technically, GL4+ is backward compatible with GL4

Re: How often should we change gear oil?

For Maruti owners, it is best to get the gear oil changed at MASS. They generally use Shell 75W90 MGGO. Just ensure they are using a good brand 75W-90. I have seen MASS charging anywhere from 800 (Gurgaon)-1500 (Bangalore) including labor and 2.2 lt oil.
Also, the change interval has been updated by Maruti to 4 years/40K kms.

Re: How often should we change gear oil?

Got the Petronas synthetic oil from 99rpm today. However label says they were imported in nov '17. When we pay so much premium wish we got atleast a max 6 month old product. Anyway will use this for now as its still atleast 2.5 years fresher than the one currently in my car.

If the bottles are well sealed then don't worry, go-ahead and use them, they won't do any harm.

I too bought 2 litres of Petronas Tutela Technyx 75W-85 for my Palio 1.6 gearbox from 99 rpm. As long as the can was sealed and manufactured less than 2 years ago, you are good to go.

It's interesting to note they are not offering Tata spares any more..only Fiat and Bajaj.

Re: How often should we change gear oil?

My SX4 Zxi (Manual Transmission) of 2011 has completed around 1,26,000 km.

At 80,000 km, I had changed the gearbox oil. That time, I could not find 75W90 or 75W85, the oils recommended by MSIL. The closest I could find was 80W90, which I purchased and poured into the gearbox. But after switching to 80W90, I felt that the gearshifts were less smooth than earlier. I felt as if my gearbox isn’t like it was before.

80W90 has completed 46,000 km now.

Today I again searched for 75W90. After spending hours searching for it, I had two choices. 75W90 synthetic from Volvoline and 75W85 mineral oil from Servo (Indian Oil). Went ahead with 75W85 from Servo, which costed me Rs. 750 including GST for a can of 2.5 lit. I will change the oil tomorrow and give you a feedback.

Here are the pictures:

Re: How often should we change gear oil?

Changed from 80W90 to 75W85 oil.

The oil was bit dark after working for around 46,000 km and not smelling burnt. But still, after looking at the oil, I felt that I shall have changed the oil earlier. If I take the oil on my finger, it still appeared to be clean and of the golden yellow color. But when I observe the drained oil in the pan, it was dark blackish green with yellowish tinge at the walls of the pan. Next time, I am planning to change in 20,000 km, which is the recommended oil change interval. Rs. 750 for the oil and Rs. 200 for the oil change is not costly at all.

As I had said earlier, the gear shifts were not as good as they used to be from the first minute after changing to 80W90 in past. But with this 75W85 oil, I could notice smoother shifts on the stick.

I purchased it from Shree Lubricants, Taware Colony, Satara Road. Phone number 98231 25757. He happens to be my friend. In case you are pressed for time, I can collect it on your behalf and you can subsequently collect from my house at your convenient time.

Re: How often should we change gear oil?

75W85 is a less common grade gear oil. For those who want the best in that grade, look no further than Petronas Tutela Technyx 75W-85 GL4+. This is the OEM for FIAT and the best available in the market. Available on 99RPM website
