Another thing we should note before giving souped up cars to our cops:

The government tried a similar initiative earlier by giving the cops souped up boats to combat smugglers along the coastline. Recently they found that the high speed engines on all the boats had been stripped and replaced with cheap substitutes, so now the patrol boats are about as fast as an average fishing trawler. And all the cops do is harass the fisherfolk.

In any case, in a city like Bombay at least, cops don't need fast cars. They just need to learn how to run.

You should read same magazine for different cars, than different magazines for same car On more serious note, what are Aveo and Fiesta 1.6 0-100 numbers? There is not much difference between Euro-II Baleno and Petra. (Something like 0.4 sec?)

So OD tested E-III Baleno finally or, they just copied over E-II baleno figures? I am sure that they wouldn't bother to clock Petra. (Or for that matter any other magazine).

Cool! So according to this site, Accent is faster than Petra, Swift is faster than Esteem and Petra D is as fast as Petra Petrol.

OD is piece of CRAP i dont believe their figures at all.... i have test driven both the aveo and the fiesta.... the aveo engine is nowwhere near fiesta in terms of outright acceleration.

More than the outright timings, its the way power is developed that matters. Fiesta 1.6 is the current drivers car in 1.6 segment. Second is Palio 1.6.

Some more "Pearls of Wisdom"from their latest issue...

this is their car buyres guide... :

Esteem FE :11.8 (9 city, 15.7 hiway)KMPL
Baleno : FE : 12.8 kmpl (10.7 city..18.9 hiway)( Baleno consumes less fuel compared to Esteem..LOL)
Baleno Vxi Tyre Size : 165/80 R 13 ( 185/65 R14 is correct size)

Swift Zxi tyre size : 185/80 R14 ..LOL (185/70R14 is correct size)

Also....thy have started an article on advising people on tyre upsizing... (Page 177) and claim it will be a regular article...god saves people who read this...!!
This one page article never mentions any of the principles of upsizing (like what is "Profile"..Outer Dia must remain same etc etc..) but suggests principles like

"Care should be taken to maintain recommended car manufacturer's " pressure for the upsized tyre"...As if any manufactureer ever recommends pressures for upsizing??

"Safe upsize for the Swift with 185/70R14 is 195/70R14 or 195/70R15 or 195/60R14 or 195/65R15 or 205/60 R15"...

"Safe upsize for the Swift with 165/80R14 is 185/70R14 "..

No explanation as to why the Swift Lxi cannot be upsized to the options available for the "185/70R14" swift (Zxi)..does it have a different track width/body/suspension (all of which is incorrect...BTW).

(Please also note...Neither mentioned are the 185/65R15 or 195/60R15 or 205/55 R15 upsizes for swift..which are a realy SAFE upsize and are probably the most accurate too out of all available options!!!)

Well..10 mins with the mag yielded this...dont have patience to rummage through more inaccurate data from a carelessly put together bunch of pages...
I will never ever subscribe to OD ever!!

needless to say..only one of the upsizes are really the recommended ones..the rest are really numbers "as seen" but not "as calculated"

I see Fiat Siena 1.6 @ 13.35 sec on indiacar.com website. Expect Petra to be different (tire size of test vehicle 195/65R15 not sure if it makes a difference). Petra stock comes with 175/65R14. Ths link seems to be giving some data http://www.indiacar.com/roadtest/0_100_0/time.htm#1.

Moderators I am a newbie here and am not sure if its ok to post links to other sites.

Hey, i think that 11.92 is for the A/T Civic. M/T should be way quicker.

Anyway, i thought i'd remind you guys of what performance used to be, a couple of years ago.

OHC Vtec (1493cc)
0-60 - 4.42secs
0-100 - 9.92secs
0-140 - 21secs
0-150 - 24.5secs
0-160 - 33secs
1/4 mile - 16.96secs
Std KM - 31.08secs
Top Speed - 185kmph (true speed)
