The one which came till 2000 was known as Metallic Cyprus Blue. The one which came in 2005 onwards was known as Metallic Caribbean Blue. Although not perceivable, still the difference was there between the shades.

Nice paint job though.

What's the shade of the SB308 in the pics? The Tatamobile and 407 also had a similar shade. AFAIK the Gypsy also came in this colour. I see a completely stock MG410 Gypsy in Margao in this colour. It's got the original 3 Alphabet 4 numerals registration number too.

That colour was officially called Bright Blue in the Maruti Suzuki brochure, but many referred to it as Racing Blue. It was available for a very brief period of time though. I think from 1986-1990.

Re: Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?

Here is a list of colours that were available for the Second Generation Maruti 800 that is the SB308(1986-1997).
Many shades were shared between the 800, Omni and Gypsy back then. Here is the list, enjoy the nostalgia .

1. Bright Blue (1986-1990)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-dsc_4672-copy.jpg
This shade was often referred to as Racing Blue and was available for a brief period of time only.

2. New Zealand Brown (1986-1988?)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-brown-800.jpg
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-brown-800_2.jpg
This shade of Brown was very popular with the ss80 and I think a few initial SB308s also came in this shade.

3. Maruti Green (1986-1993)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-dsc03416-640x480.jpg
This shade too was available for the ss80. The SB308 also came in this shade till 1993 and was then replaced by another green.

4. Francoise White (1986-1997)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-dscn2037.jpg
This simple shade of white was available throughout the lifespan of the SB308 that is from 1986 till 1997. The shade remained the same throughout although the name may have changed after the grill change in 1995.

5. Pista Green? (1986-1987/88?)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-800.jpg
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-800_2.jpg
This shade is I think the rarest shade of the SB308. Very very few cars came in this colour. I am not sure of the period of its availability. But honestly, it looked quite nice.

6. Biscuit Cream (1986-1995)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-img20170209wa0026.jpg
This biscuit coloured shade was quite common back in the day. One could spot many SB308s and Omnis in this colour. I think it was discontinued in 1995 after the grill changed from the slatted grill to the mesh grill.

7. Apple Red/ St. Germaine Red (1986-1997)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-dsc_4515-copy.jpg
This lovely shade of Red was available throughout the lifespan of the SB308 too! Although the name may have changed in between.

8. Bayer Blue (1987-1993)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-maruti_800_1980s_model_goa_201305.jpg
This shade of Blue was a darker and more sober shade as compared to Bright Blue. It was discontinued in 1993 and was replaced by Neptune Blue.

9. Cairo Dust (1988-1997)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-cairo-dust.jpg
This I believe is another rare shade of the SB308 800 although it was available till 1997. It's name was changed to Dark metallic Grey some point in 1995 and it was made exclusive only for DX cars.

10. Neptune Blue (1993-1997)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-_1_1346933356.jpg
This shade of dark blue was introduced in 1993 and replaced Bayer Blue. It continued to be sold till 1997.

11. Meadow Green (1993-1997)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-whatsapp-image-20161021-20.55.20.jpeg
This shade of dark green was introduced in 1993 along with Neptune Blue to replace Maruti Green which got phased out.

12. Aquamarine Green/ Blue (1996-1997)
Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?-image3.jpg
This Turquoise Green/Blue shade was actually introduced when the Zen began getting metallic shades in 1996. So, some 800s and Esteems too were sold in this colour. Sorry for the pic quality, this was the only decent pic I could find on the net.

I think that's all the colours! Let me know if I missed out any shade and correct me if I went wrong anywhere.

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Dear Leoshashi, I have a query regarding the color of a couple of M800s that we have owned. Attaching pictures for your reference. It would be nice if you could share the names of the said colors. I know there's a separate thread but getting them identified by you here would be much easier. The last two are the same color.

Thank you!

Edit- I couldn't find the colours in question, in the other thread. Hence my asking here!

Metallic Sapphire Blue(can be Madison Blue also, both were very similar and hard to distinguish).
Ruby Red
Bright Red

No they are not.

Thanks mate! But I'm really confused now! So the two reds aren't the same? Then I'm not sure as to which one my grandparents own. I'll try to source a picture in a couple of days.

Edit- can it be Caribbean blue? I'll see if I can find a pic of our actual car in that shade too. These images were taken off the net as I didn't have ours'.

Edit 2- the red one we currently have is a 2003 model 4 speed. It has a grille that's similar to the second red car in the above post. So it MIGHT be bright red. The hiding of the number of some random person with the blackening tool might've lead to some confusion along with the poor pic quality I found on Google but here's the original image -

The two reds are very different, I'm very sure. The second one is Ruby red, while the last one is bright red. I can help you with brochure pics if needed. But yes, I'm very sure.

Definitely not. Caribbean Blue was a much lighter shade which came with Type 3 800s and Alto. Remember the iconic Boondein ad? That was Caribbean Blue.

Quite sure that its the Madison Blue. It was the blue shade in use for the generation to which the car belongs (based on the grille and bumper design in the picture).

Certainly not the Caribbean blue. That shade came with one of the last generations of the M800, together with the Omni that came with the side graphics. Post 2006 or so.

Actually judging the color based on grill design would be wrong, as both Madison and Sapphire blue came on the same grill design. If memory serves me right, Sapphire Blue came after Madison Blue. When we had booked our 800(Early 2000), Madison Blue was an option, which got discontinued and was replaced by Sapphire Blue(Jul 2000). Both shades were very similar to each other, and it was simply impossible to differentiate between the two unless seen in person.

Regarding Caribbean Blue, you are spot on!

Regards,
Shashi

Re: Colours of the 800 & Omni in the 1980s?

One heck of a knowledgeable and nostalgic thread!
Just realised that there were no photographs of the SB308 in its silver shade, so thought to upload our 1993 800’s photo. Tried my best to edit this picture to distinguish it from looking white!

IMO this rare colour suited the car a lot and looked better than those 9/10 sold in white! :P

And the finishing and the paint quality was much better than today’s silver shade offered in the Swift/Dzire.

Notice that this one of the rare honeycomb grill models which had the bonnet opening from outside!

This silver colour was offered only in the DX model I believe. Dad remembers an IAS officer was impressed by this shade and said he would buy the 800 in the same shade.
