Hi,

A few months back there was a vahaan yatra organised in ITPL in bangalore. There was a stall by a gentleman who was offering some auto clutch attachement. At the back of his visiting card, one of the services mentioned was removing scratches from windshields.

I have misplaced his card, but it mentioned his workshop to be in Wilson Garden.

Cheers
Ajay

Hey guys...

Now that i have found the remedy for my WS scratches... some thoughts have started to run through my mind...
- How effective will it be??
- How safe is it?? some say that it may affect the vision...

So what the people who have already done it have to say??

The Eagle Eye's treatment on my Zen's windshield was pretty effective I should say. Earlier to that it was pain to drive in the night time. It does not affect vision , on the contrary improves.

Safe? Does losing a layer of few microns thick affect safety? I don't think so.

Know there's been an extensive discussion on How to remove scratches from a windshield but thought I'd share this info I read in the latest issue of Topgear magazine. They (TG) suggest using toothpaste to remove minor scratches and oil/grease deposits on the windshield. The toothpaste is to be applied in a swirling manner and then wiped away. Guess the toothpaste they recommend would be the white one's and not the gels.

Found another interesting tip: Add about 50ml of Vodka or Gin (white spirit) to your windscreen washer tank to help remove oil and grease deposits from your windshield everytime you use the wiper/washer. Interesting one for me i.e, I don't have to carry a premixed bottle anymore. How i wish i could get advice as to getting a T junction or so to have a spare pipe with a tap running in into the cabin from the washer tank. Any ideas for this mod gentlemen? Ok Ok before i get flamed for DND... was jus kidding.

For Mumbaites there is this guy called Isaak who will come to your house and do it for about 1K. He replaces windshields also. If you want his number please pm me.
Windshields Experts gave me a quote of 23000 Rs to replace my Prado Windshield. Purchased windshield from Opera House myself for 7500 Rs with sealant Kit and 1000 Rs for fitting. Whole thing was managed for 8500 Rs. Pays to work hard.

[quote=kiranpashtakar;399403]Hi,

my car cleaner has used a old scotch brite to clean the windshield

I just got reminded of the monster tv commercial - caught in the wrong job!....the first and most important thing is to put him in 'DISH WASHING'...

Well, jokes apart, I got a major scratch like thing 4-5 months back, on my car's windshield but I am lucky to have some 'stupid' friends over here who first tried colin on it, then potatoes and cucumbers (read salid!). Finally without consulting me petrol and nail polish remover were put on it which resulted in the scratch like thing's developing in a full crack and finally I took insurance and got it replaced.

Please do not look for solutions to this problem, drive the car if its drivable, else don't risk your night driving and visibility. I suppose you would be only charged 400-700 bucks for the rubber coat and fitting if you get a new one using your insurance. Goodluck!

For people from Bangalore:

The Car Spa on the first floor of Forum Mall, Koramangala does winshield scratch removal.
They have 4 types of rates. Small, medium, large and Extra Large Cars. All the cars and the ranks are listed out in the form.

They charged me Rs 943/- and took 45 minutes for my Skoda Octavia and this falls in the Large Cars. I am very happy with their work. But beware they try to push you into doing other jobs like interior, exterior etc..

I have obtained one of the Forms they use, it has all the rates for all the jobs they do. I will post it for you to see once I figure out how to do it in this forum

Re: Scratches on the Windshield

Hey..my car also has scratches on it. But it comes rather bad while raining, once the wiper works, it leaves multiple "arc"s of water on the windshield. The wipers are from Bosch and its hardly 6-7 months since I bought it. Is it a problem with the wiper or windshield? It becomes really hard to drive the car in the night when its even drizzling as the water "arcs" are right in front of my eyes !

Anybody could help me with suggestions?
