Scratches on the Windshield

Hi,

Any ideas how to remove minor scratches from the windshield, my car cleaner has used a old scotch brite to clean the windshield. Can you beat that. .

Will rubbing compund or swirl remover work here.

Thats brilliant! did he use pril liquid also? I have never heard of such a thing. There is already a thread on removing scratches by buffing etc which will reduce the thickness of the glass. If you can live with the scratches, thats fine. Otherwise best thing is replace the glass and the "car cleaner".

I may be out on a limb here...but try a sliced potato....yep, you read right...a wise old man told me to clean it with a freshly sliced potato, (sliced face on the glass), it apparently works wonders...i dont suppose it could cause much harm, so worth a shot!

....And if you throw in a dash of vinaigrette dressing, you can also lick your windscreen clean ...sorry only kiddin, could'nt resist this one....i heard this potato thing too but hav'nt tried it. My car windscreen also had these scratches but my garage guy told me there is a powder available to get rid of these or else its a nightmare driving at night. The scratches shine like nobody's business. I can find out what he used because whatever he did has worked wonders

I just called him up and he says there is a guy who comes to your place to treat the windscreen scratches and he charges something like 1-1.5K. Its like a whole process where he applies some powder and then keeps it for a while before brushing it off with an electric rotor brush. Its for serious scratches(not to be read as cracks) ill still check with some of my garage friends and get back to you to see what it is that they use. I got my merc windscreen done more than 2 years ago and its still fine.

What I did was changed the windscreen Bro. Doesnt help to drive at night with a scratched windshield et al. However try Auto Glass replacement and Auto Safety Glass Replacement - Windshield Experts these folks claim to be experts. Check them out and do give us all a feedback if possible.

eagle eye

I had similar problem with my Zen's wind shield. It developed lot of swirl marks and it was very bad during night time, with glare of all the oncoming traffic's lights.

I called up "wind shield experts" and asked them if they could treat it. They replied saying that I need to replace my Zen's wind shield.

Then I had it treated at eagle eye's branch in Hyderabad. I paid Rs 825/- and I must I am very satisfied with the result. All the swirl marks are gone.

It is definitely worth trying.

@skidrock, how much does a new windshield cost? 825 is a bit too steep!
